Statistically speaking, if someone is black, they are more likely to be poor. However, the overwhelming numerical supremacy of whites in the United States means that they still exceed the number of poor black families. I linked to an article detailing this. The only conclusion to all of this is that the system is racist. Don't give me that "its their culture" thing. It is their culture because they live in a deeply racist society that believes that they are all criminals. And even with all of the bad role models, they still don't commit more crime than whites. They just convicted of them more because they lack the social capital necessary to work their way out of a conviction. It is a never ending circle without any real way out of it.

Coming from a black guy I think the biggest problem is coming from a poor family. "But shrinkme immigrants come to America with little money and still make a living so why can't black people do the same?" Honestly I've asked myself the same question. My best guess is that in some of the African American culture you're not "cool" if you're not ghetto. So kids try to act hardcore and eventually it escalates into gangs and crime. And we all know once you're in a gang it's pretty difficult to get out of one. Now does it always lead to crime? No not all the time. Also blacks that talk with a slang are the mostly the ones who are facing job discrimination.

Once again, it's not being poor that makes you do criminal stuff, it's a lot of factors and although it may help since it's probably seen as an easy way out in my opinion that environment of ghetto and who's the most [i]gangsta[/i] is a lot more damaging and related to criminal activities than just being poor.
