How about Parakeelia, how it got contracts from the government then donated money back to the Liberals, because they own it?

Or how 2 high-ranked Liberals utilised taxpayer money for transport to party fundraisers, in which a former Liberal leader, aka John Hewson, said in an interview to ABC last year
"Quite frankly, I don't see how the Government can criticise Union leaders for wallowing in their trough, at the same time as same defending Bronwyn for wallowing in that trough. "
Or how they want to add an additional $48 billion in corporate tax cuts, on top of the already $74 billion that they receive, in which the ABC has said that a relatively large percentage of those cuts will be for the top 10% of wage earners, thus forcing the rest of us to pay more in tax?
Yes, Queensland Labor have done bad in sending out thousands of texts claiming to be "Medicare", urging voters to put the LNP last because they planned to outsource parts of Medicare to overseas companies, but here's a kicker:

Well, 3 of them were won by LNP last election

Best not to ask that poster questions - they don't seem to respond when you provide evidence.
I'm still waiting for my responses.

That's for sure.
I have a feeling that Barry Cassidy of the ABC is right; we may be heading back to another election within the next year.

Makes me think they might be an alt of Antdawg. Good ol' antdawg. At least Antdawg backed up his claims, I think.
Was the vote counting supposed to be so slow today (well, yesterday)? ABC reported that the vote count only progressed from something like 79% to 80%. ABC currently puts the seats at Coalition = 70 and Labor = 67.
Antony Green advises taking the official AEC count with a grain of salt due to shortcomings in their seat tallies http://blogs.abc.net.au/antonygreen/2016/07/whats-going-on-with-house-seat-numbers.html so just because Labor is 'leading' at the moment, don't get your hopes up

im so confused as to what Green's doing compared to the AEC, he might as well storm the offices of the AEC and count the ballot papers himself
i still think we're going back to the polls

The feud between Antony Green and members of the Australian Electoral Council has stepped up this morning with reports suggesting the ABC’s leading pollster has stormed the offices of the AEC and declared that he will finish the count all by himself.
Green claimed he was tired of waiting for results from the electoral commission and would be taking over the responsibility to determine the winner of the election.

So now, with the Liberals in disarray, and with one of the most vocal anti-turnbull senators Cory Bernardi now in talks in breaking away and possibly forming a new party, coincidentally named the "Conservative" Party, this election confirms that the conservatives have no faith left in Turnbull or even the party executives.
I'm glad they're leaving that party though, at least voters will know who's who when another election rolls around.
That would be hilarious if Bernardi and the conservatives did leave. They would finally realise how little of Australia actually support them.

Well, Bernardi apparently is in serious talks with the Liberal executive trying to keep him from leaving. He'd probably take a sizeable chunk of the Liberals with him, probably including George Christensen and fellow Liberal senator & attorney general George Brandis.
(Note this is just some speculation and from a source within the Liberal party that spoke to Fairfax Media. So take it with a grain of salt.

Here's interesting food for thought: If the House of Representatives were elected in the same way that the NSW Legislative Council is elected (but without the staggered terms), the seat count for this upcoming parliament would be:
Coalition: 63 seats
Labor: 53 seats
Greens: 15 seats
NXT: 3 seats
Others: 16 seats
As opposed to the current count under the current system of:
Coalition: 72-79 seats
Labor: 66-73 seats
Greens: 1 seat
NXT: 1 seat
Others: 3 seats
It's even more evidence for when foreigners complain about lack of third party representation in their own governments, that the alternative/instant-runoff vote was never the solution they were after.
Holy shit your elections take forever.
It takes some time to count preferential voting but it's very worth it
It takes some time to count preferential voting but it's very worth it
It was more down to waiting for postal votes to come in, getting the declaration votes sorted out, and having a skeleton crew do all of the counting after the army of counters weren't able to finish on the first day. There's also the fact that most of the remaining counting is being done in tightly-contested seats where they can't call the election for a candidate until they've counted nearly all of the votes. Things that could happen under FPTP. Do remember that ~140 of the 150 seats were called on the first day of counting.
The Senate voting with Gregory STV on the other hand... That could take quite a while.
I swear previous elections were over by the next morning. Atleast that's what i remember from when K.Rudd got in.
Please no
This is why Antony Green said to take the AEC results with a grain of salt. Their seat tallies were poorly made, which made it look like Labor were in the lead over the past week, until now. People who only ever looked at the AEC tallies and thought that Labor would win were using confirmation bias to set themselves up for a massive disappointment.
I have received numerous questions about why the ABC website is not using the current seat totals on the Australian Electoral Commission's (AEC's) website.
The reason is that the AEC's current seat totals are not totals of seats won, but simply totals of seats where a party is leading. This is not an indication that a party has won these seats.
On the ABC site I prefer to leave these seats as remaining in doubt, not to include them in a total of seats won. The ABC's current seat count is Coalition 68, Labor 67, Others 5 and 10 seats undecided. Five of those seats sit on margins of under 0.5%.
Beyond this issue of dealing with very close seats, there is a second problem. The AEC site is currently excluding six seats that have clearly been won by one of the major parties.
According to analysts, there's now a real chance that the Coalition can make it to that golden number of 76 seats, but the (strong) possibility of falling short is still there.

They're completely out of touch with the times and have no chance of winning an election without people like Turnbull. I blame the the conservatives for making it easy for Labor to under perform. If the libs were more in touch, Labor would have to work harder.
ABC's latest count is Coalition = 73 and Labor = 66. I think it's guaranteed we will now see a return of Coalition government, only that we're not yet sure if it will be with the support of the crossbench or not.

I completely concur, as those members of the far right seem to be holding most of the power within the Liberals, even though by definition, the Liberals are seen as mid-centre-right, but not far right as those members want it to be.
Personally I think the Liberals should be rebranded as the "Conservative Party" in name because it seems that a majority of their party members are of those political views. It'd make sense because swing voters wouldn't get so confused when voting on who to vote for because it'd present a more clearer choice, as with the general public, at least they understand the political spectrum. You have the left and the right, with beginnings of the centrists / moderates finally becoming more and more noticeable.
Back to the main topic of the thread, so now that Katter will support the liberals on a "supply" basis of votes within the lower house, it's becoming more and more certain they will retain power. His comment on "not tolerating union bashing" will serve to at least warn them that continuing with union bashing will not get them far.
In my opinion, yes major unions should get somewhat of a shake up in regards to negotiating pay in line with equipment, supply and physical costs, in that I think that should be handed over to the Fair Work Commission but with the Fair Work Commission actually conducting thorough investigation to legitimise their decisions in regards to each respective industry, so that it's fair for both the unions and also the employers & above the living cost average. That's the only real thing that needs to be done with reforming the unions, but not going so far as to reinstate the ABCC and forcibly removing their civil rights as individual citizens all because they are union members.
I just refer to them as the conservatives and most say Tories anyway since that's what they really are
People in Queensland are still pissed off over the liberal-national merger that created the LNP
