Neither MP3 device nor the internet are products of Capitalism, they are just products of technology. CD stores and recording Labels are products of Capitalism. Technology can spread art just fine thank you very much.
Are you fucking serious? How the fuck do you think technology spreads? Did you not buy that mp3 device? I'm done arguing with you, you're seriously among the most fucking clueless I've ever witnessed on facepunch.
Someone please for the sake of the argument point out some great literary figures, musicians, and artists from Soviet Russia off the top of your head. Oh wait.
haha oh wow How about Andrei Tarkovsky, arguably one of the greatest cinematographers in all of history. How about the Suprematist movement, which also started in Soviet Russia. Hell, that's just off the top of my head. Soviet Russia was full of brilliant film makers and artists. Almost all of them were completely fucking crazy, but still, brilliant.
There are many great literary and artistic soviet figures. They just aren't internationally famous. That's because being an artist isn't about promoting your work, it's about creating good works, and theres no shortage of amazing soviet works. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Soviet_writers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Soviet_artists http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Soviet_animators http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Soviet_painters http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Soviet_photographers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Soviet_sculptors
I said off the top of your head, and they are nowhere near as significant or as numerous as American artists.
Someone please for the sake of the argument point out some great literary figures, musicians, and artists from Soviet Russia off the top of your head. Oh wait.
Tarkovsky?
I said off the top of your head, and they are nowhere near as famous or as well known as American artists.
fixed that for you.
Tarkovsky?
Tarkovsky would have been much better off producing his works in the United States.
Capitalism allows art to be enjoyed by all, how are you missing this point? I highly doubt you don't have an mp3 device of some sort with music that you are able to enjoy only because of capitalism.
Arguing that because something developed in certain circumstances it could only have developed under such circumstances is just blatant assumption. Also the idea that because something could only develop under such certain circumstances, we should take those circumstances to their extremes is just insane.
also how does one objectively define significance in art? striker?
fixed that for you.
True as well. But why are American artists famous and well known? Capitalism.
Capitalism is a good thing. However, you can have too much of a good thing. Should we all have equal pay? No. Should innovators and such get more money for their work? Yes. Should the contrast between the pays of the top percent and the majority be as vast as it is now? No. And no, economics is not a dichotomy. Saying "well, it will eventually go to one extreme or another" is a fallacy.
Tarkovsky would have been much better off producing his works in the United States.
You would be better off in a stump grinder. While we're just making shit up.
Are you fucking serious? How the fuck do you think technology spreads? Did you not buy that mp3 device? I'm done arguing with you, you're seriously among the most fucking clueless I've ever witnessed on facepunch.
It would spread with or without capitalist attitudes. You are attributing anything that can be sold to Capitalism as if in Communist countries they eat, work, sleep and die. There were monetary systems before Capitalism existed as a concept you know.
Tarkovsky would have been much better off producing his works in the United States.
hi im strider and i can make absolutely baseless claims.
There were great artists in Soviet Russia just as there are great artists everywhere. My point is that they weren't able to bloom in the Soviet Union like the artists in the United States were.
True as well. But why are American artists famous and well known? Capitalism.
yes okay, and being famous and well known makes capitalism great how exactly? [editline]25th February 2011[/editline]
There were great artists in Soviet Russia just as there are great artists everywhere. My point is that they weren't able to bloom in the Soviet Union like the artists in the United States were.
what do you mean by "bloom", im assuming you mean "get rich". how does getting rich have anything to do with art at all.
True as well. But why are American artists famous and well known? Capitalism.
A lot of them also go fucking crazy because they're surrounded by people who only want to leech off of their success and they become incapable of actual artwork.
It would spread with or without capitalist attitudes. You are attributing anything that can be sold to Capitalism as if in Communist countries they eat, work, sleep and die. There were monetary systems before Capitalism existed as a concept you know.
Of course there were. What do you think got us out of the dark ages though? Again technology that a society wants to consume can only properly spread through business and we both know this.
I said off the top of your head, and they are nowhere near as significant
What? Art isn't a popularity contest. Most artists don't create their work so it can be seen.
True as well. But why are American artists famous and well known? Capitalism.
No, because you are in the US. They don't know as many US artists just like you don't know many Russian ones. Also the Soviet Union was a lot poorer and people did not have as high of standard of living, people could not get the number of luxuries available to US citizens. Not really because of Capitalism either though, their ground freezes in winter so most of their time is spent just getting food.
what do you mean by "bloom", im assuming you mean "get rich". how does getting rich have anything to do with art at all.
I guarantee there were many artists in the Soviet Union who weren't able to be discovered because of their terrible economic system.
There were great artists in Soviet Russia just as there are great artists everywhere. My point is that they weren't able to bloom in the Soviet Union like the artists in the United States were.
what, you mean artists like Orson Welles, who, after Citizen Kane was completely stomped out by william randolph hearst
Of course there were. What do you think got us out of the dark ages though? Again technology that a society wants to consume can only properly spread through business and we both know this.
and therefore absurdly unequal wealth distribution is a good thing :downs:
Also the Soviet Union was a lot poorer and people did not have as high of standard of living, people could not get the number of luxuries available to US citizens.
And why do you think that was? Thank you for proving my point.
what, you mean artists like Orson Welles, who, after Citizen Kane was completely stomped out by william randolph hearst
And that has anything to do with capitalism?
I guarantee there were many artists in the Soviet Union who weren't able to be discovered because of their terrible economic system.
I guarantee that you are a gigantic reptillian tentacled monstrosity from dimension X named Zzozz.
I guarantee there were many artists in the Soviet Union who weren't able to be discovered because of their terrible economic system.
i guarantee there are many artists in the usa who weren't able to be discovered because their art wasn't profitable.
And why do you think that was? Thank you for proving my point.
. . .Because the government was corrupt, cruel, inefficient and downright insane?
But why are American artists famous and well known?
Because you live in America?
I guarantee there were many artists in the Soviet Union who weren't able to be discovered
What? What does that have to do with creating art
