Of course there were. What do you think got us out of the dark ages though? Again technology that a society wants to consume can only properly spread through business and we both know this.
Really? Capitalism got us out of the Dark Ages? Again, you are bunching business, currency and everything with Capitalism. The modern idea of it is none of that, it is just making money of everything you can. There would still be technology production without the vast capitalist ideas, there would still be trade routes, there would still be stores just like there were since cities existed.
. . .Because the government was corrupt, cruel, inefficient and downright insane?
Well hurr durr what do you think happens when you allow a government control the economy?
Of course there were. What do you think got us out of the dark ages though? We both know this. Let's keep going with this game of just assuming shit for no good reason, it's fun.

Mercantilism did and the expansion of cities.
And why do you think that was? Thank you for proving my point.
surely the fact that the entirely world was bombed to shit after world war two and the usa was the only country able to produce stuff has nothing to do with their post war economic boom and thus the huge disposable income it generated for even factory workers. also wealth disparity then was nowhere near what it is now.
This all started as people questioning whether or not a single individual could could actually make use of 27 million dollars and stider turned it into a debate about communism. This has nothing to do with communism, and more to do with raising taxes for the rich so that we can get out of this debt hole that we've dug ourselves into.
[img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/34/Gini_Coefficient_World_CIA_Report_2009.png[/img_thumb] Sweden. :smug:
South Africa lol
Well hurr durr what do you think happens when you allow a government control the economy?
Ah, I see. So 1800's England proves that if you allow capitalism to flourish, the poor will be trampled on and so it can never work. Gotcha.

Compare the United States to the Soviet Union during the cold war. There is my proof for almost every single one of my claims.
Well hurr durr what do you think happens when you allow a government control the economy?
i still don't understand what the fuck you're arguing against. it seems that your only point is that communism as it had been implemented sucked. no fucking shit. how about you explain why we need people to barely scrape by and not afford to send their kids to school while someone is making 27 million dollars a year?
[img_thumb]http://www.christies.com/lotfinderimages/d49788/d4978867x.jpg[/img_thumb] This is a portrait that is priced at $4,000,000. Anyone could whip this up in MS paint in 1 minute and it wouldn't be worth shit. But because some famous guy drew it it's suddenly worth 4 million. Capitalism has turned art into hipster shit.
whoa whoa i'm no uber-capitalist, but I gotta take issue with this. technical skill isn't what determines the merit of art. if you whipped that up in mspaint in a minute it wouldn't be the same thing because it wasn't your idea or sentiment that created it. why don't we make this the ~~artchat~~ thread because strider certainly isn't going to become sane anytime soon

I brought up communism because it is an ideology against the individual.
I didn't say capitalism. Mercantilism did and the expansion of cities.
You talk about capitalism non-stop and expect me to understand when you change to mercantilism even you don't even mention it. Great. Not that any of it matters what it did for us in the past. Slavery got a heap of shit done and kept things going for ages, not like we're gonna cling to that the same way.
i still don't understand what the fuck you're arguing against. it seems that your only point is that communism as it had been implemented sucked. no fucking shit. how about you explain why we need people to barely scrape by and not afford to send their kids to school while someone is making 27 million dollars a year?
Because it's their fucking money not yours. You don't have any right to it. No one has argued with me on this point you all seem to glide past it.
The dark ages ended because the middle classes had a fierce rivalry with the aristocrats they eventually won whilst the kings and shit liked the middle classes because they gave taxes rather than military service to them. (So they could centralize and run the armies directly themselves)
i still don't understand what the fuck you're arguing against. it seems that your only point is that communism as it had been implemented sucked. no fucking shit. how about you explain why we need people to barely scrape by and not afford to send their kids to school while someone is making 27 million dollars a year?
Good luck, I've been trying to get him to say that for two pages. I don't think he sees any differences between any of the following terms: -need -want -deserve
don't worry OP I'm sure the wealth will trickle down eventually
It's like molasses just hold on guys.
You have no proof or examples of your claims. Compare the United States to the Soviet Union during the cold war. There is my proof for almost every single one of my claims.
see, this is what I was talking about with you being thick What about China, oh wise Strider? They're rapidly outpacing almost every other country, and since if you call yourself communist you automatically are, and they're calling themselves communist, obviously communism is better than capitalism.
The dark ages ended because of the spread of ideas thanks to the printing press and the innovative efforts that trade brought.
Because it's their fucking money not yours. You don't have any right to it. No one has argued with me on this point you all seem to glide past it.
so we not only should not have a graduated income tax, but we should get rid of income tax all together.
see, this is what I was talking about with you being thick What about China, oh wise Strider? They're rapidly outpacing almost every other country, and since if you call yourself communist you automatically are, and they're calling themselves communist, obviously communism is better than capitalism.
You're fucking clueless.. most of China's growth is in Hong Kong. Guess who has the most free economy in the world?
Because it's their fucking money not yours. You don't have any right to it. No one has argued with me on this point you all seem to glide past it.
And if taxes are raised on a curve it becomes the public's money, as it should be.
I didn't turn this into a debate about communism.. I brought up communism because it is an ideology against the individual.
You brought up communism and started arguing about it. Thus: You turned it into a debate about communism.
i still don't understand what the fuck you're arguing against. it seems that your only point is that communism as it had been implemented sucked. no fucking shit. how about you explain why we need people to barely scrape by and not afford to send their kids to school while someone is making 27 million dollars a year?
because anything else is communism it's either the majority of people are poor and oppressed under stalinism or the majority of people are poor and oppressed under capitalism (which is better for some reason)
so we not only should not have a graduated income tax, but we should get rid of income tax all together.
No we shouldn't have any taxes that result in doing anything other than what society is intended to do. Protecting the individual rights of her citizens.
The dark ages ended because of the spread of ideas thanks to the printing press and the innovative efforts that trade brought.
Once again, Innovation that could have been done by other people. There is no entitlement to anything.
The dark ages ended because of the spread of ideas thanks to the printing press and the innovative efforts that trade brought.
Both of which benefited the middle classes and increased their power.
Because it's their fucking money not yours. You don't have any right to it. No one has argued with me on this point you all seem to glide past it.
Hey look, it's another libertarian who has never actually lived in the real world who thinks that life is fair and you make your money by just being the best at what you do.
No we shouldn't have any taxes that result in doing anything other than what society is intended to do. Protecting the individual rights of her citizens.
so anarcho-capitalism.
You're fucking clueless.. most of China's growth is in Hong Kong. Guess who has the most free economy in the world?
well it's whoever who is doing the best of course! the people who support my economic beliefs always do the best and the ones that don't fail
