Reminds me of that South Park episode.
Reminds me of
No, all blood is tested for several diseases. Gay men, sex workers and drug users were all previously denied the ability to give blood - rightfully, gay men now have the ability to give blood, as long it's within 12 months after having sex with another man. The twelve month period is because a) sadly, gay men currently suffer from a disproportionately high level of HIV and b) HIV has a window period after infection where it is impossible to detect, but still transmissible. There is still a very small chance of transmission if someone who is HIV donates blood and it isn't picked up, but if someone is HIV positive they shouldn't be donating blood anyway.
I'm pretty sure gay men still aren't allowed to give blood HERE. I don't think you live where I live.
I think you're right about the reason, just gay men aren't allowed to give blood yet in the Netherlands.
Fair enough, although I'd imagine all blood in the Netherlands is still automatically tested for HIV along with Hepatitis, mainly because people can be infected with either for an extended period of time without symptoms and how devastating they can both be.
Fat load of good that'll do.
"Yeah, that was our bad. Sorry bout that."
Several online users also blamed the health authorities for “ending a girl’s life” through “negligence and irresponsible behaviour”, saying that the apology would not be enough to allow her or her family to live normally.
I know getting HIV is bad, getting it from a medical error is even worse, but is stupid to say that her life is over and that neither she or her family will be able to have a normal live. As long as she receives proper treatment and medications, she is gonna die from anything except HIV.
Horrifying, debilitating, unbeliveable virus that no one deserves. but with proper care they can live a long and happy life, like everyone else... though, drugs and liver damage is very nasty. hopefully medical care has become better since I last heard of HIV care. Lets just hope they don't have a shallow apology and pay for her full treatment for her, like they should. It's an honest mistake but it shouldn't go without a fix. Any medical care like that for some families can be insanely expensive.
I'm a donator myself and I can tell that even donator blood isn't entirely safe. They test it on things like HIV but they can't test it on everything. That's why they rely on people to be as honest as possible when donating blood, that's also the reason why you don't get paid for that in the Netherlands.
In the military they offer us free juice, snacks, and a sticker :downs:

I can't imagine how the parents feel, let alone the girl. The people who are at fault should be fired, and stripped of their license. I'm so frustrated by this, that I can't even express how frustrating it really is. What a waste of a life..
