Not in the literal sense, but they just farm your information, and probably sell it on - or use it for advertising.

Guys, check out their page, http://www.joindiaspora.com/
Maybe it's just me, but I watched their video, and it just feels like a fail attempt. It also says they have raised $106,677 dollars. Maybe other people have more faith in this than I do
I love how in this article they are called nerds and geeks.
Are these assumptions or is there some kind of source?
Set your relationship status to single on Facebook (assuming you use facebook) and then check your profile afterwards and tell me if you see an advert to the right of your profile saying "Want To Meet Hot Single Girls In Your Area?" or something similar. Facebook uses little gimmicks like that for their advertising, that's how they make revenue, I thought this was common knowledge?
I'm pretty sure that thing in the middle is not a human, but is a sloth
I would rather use Facebook.
It also says they have raised $106,677 dollars. Maybe other people have more faith in this than I do
I think if they could raise all that money in such short time, then there's definitely people ready to back them up!
Reason why i keep personal info on facebook to a absolute minimum. I get all kinds of funky Ad's because of that :v:
Those look like hipsters instead of nerds to me.
I think if they could raise all that money in such short time, then there's definitely people ready to back them up!
I agree, if people were so willing to spend money to stop giving out personal information, maybe something like this should of came around years ago
Interesting
Whats up with the news reporting on so many "nerdy" and "geeky" things lately? This, the iphone shit, Hexxeh's google OS, etc. And they sure were stressing the whole pizza and ramen thing.
I foresee a slow, but steady migration of users, from Facebook to Diaspora* shortly...
Specially now, that Facebook is clearly going down the drain [editline]09:02PM[/editline] Oh snap, automerge fail! :v:

Anyone else notice this? http://www.zombo.com/
The point of a site like facebook is about finding other people by their names, pictures and location. If you only provide one of these things it is going to be pretty difficult to find the person you are trying to find and consequently, estimating the authenticity of the person is also going to be difficult since you will have to contact the person behind that name which may or may not be the person you were looking for. I say that if you really want to keep your privacy intact then use chat clients like messenger or others. Also, I trust these geeks and nerds less or equally as much as the facebook owners.

The thing is that mr. Suckerberg found out he can make a shitload of money selling all that info you mentioned (pictures, location, etc) to marketers. Also, depending on what you post on FB or depending on some profile settings, specific ads will come up on your screen and stuff. Many people consider that an invasion of privacy, that's what has all those so-called experts crying out loud over FB privacy? settings. BTW, if you had to choose between these 2 nerds to trust one of them: or... Who would you choose? :v: [editline]02:22PM[/editline] Linus Torvalds looks so smug on that pic, lol
FaceBook isn't really doing anything that bad at the moment.
Those look like hipsters instead of nerds to me.
I think the two intersect now.
Anyone else notice this? http://www.zombo.com/
haha blast from the past
Twitter is the best social networking site, yet no-one I know uses it. :smith:
Really? I have yet to come across a half-decent social networking site.
It's inevitable Every social networking site will eventually go to hell as more people join. It's just a sad fact

I trust anyone who owns an original Commodore.
I would pick the one on the right. I trust anyone who owns an original Commodore.
IMO I would pick the one on the left. I trust anyone who labels the OpenBSD group as "Masturbating monkeys" :v:
How will you search for people? Since there is no database to search from?
Why do they care again? It's not like people are forced to give out information. I have a facebook account too and I have minimal info on there.
