The edges of our eyes are specialised for seeing motion and basically nothing else. The fact that you can't really make out images combined with the constant shifting mean that your brain gets überconfused.
Plus, our brains are really sensitive to what a human face [I]should [/I]look like. It's like the uncanny valley, but induced by not letting you quite see the faces and properly recognise them.
