Father accidentally kills himself in front of children at grocery store

I'm just glad the Glock didn't explode and take out the whole family!
Shows how much I know about anatomy....never would have thought about bleeding out from an artery in our hip.....I instantly thought "What the hell....it's just his hip how did he lose so much blood?". Then I read a post reminding me that we have arteries in our legs :v:
Also, I feel that they could have said the man inadvertently killed himself as appose to accidently killing himself. Changes the feel of the story imo just from that one word. The guy wasn't twirling the damn gun like a total idiot, he just had it in a bad place and wasn't extremely careful about it.
Glock sounded like a good gun, until this

glocks don't have a proper safety system because they're not really mean to be civilian weapons. they're meant to be in a holster, not a waistband.
Not to mention the right to have a dad.
worst example ever

It should be against the law to carry without a holster, it is so easy to accidentally hit the trigger when a gun is just sitting there. A lot of people find it comfortable and I know someone who does but he has had good luck so far. I still tease him for it...
I would go nuts carrying a gun without a holster.
This is why I think gun training should be mandatory for gun ownership...
This should be the pro-gun slogan: Don't regulate, educate!

if you're gonna carry without a holster you should at least put it in a jacket pocket. also should probably just carry single action revolvers, there isn't anything that can go wrong with those while the hammer isn't cocked.
Uhh cause it sort of goes against the "basic right" thing.
Can't really be a right if you have to take a course to have said right.
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed
It's that first bit where gun safety courses come in.
I think that actually means semi-organized but unfortunately that's up to interpretation
I wish the constitution and it's amendments were more clear on this kind of thing

They're quite clear when you understand the historical context. There were popular militias running around France at this point, and it's pretty obvious that's what they were referring to.
Regulated in that instance means trained and organized.
I mean really, how on earth will guns help maintain a free state if the state controls who gets guns?

Not true, if you were to drop a revolver it could misfire. Double or single action the only safety on a revolver is having an empty chamber or a half cocked hammer. Now if you were to carry it on an empty chamber there is not much that can go wrong on a single action.

I thought that was the case?
Why even carry a gun to a store? That's dumb.

Why bother owning a gun for personal defense outside the home if you're not going to carry it everywhere?
It's not like criminals have 'no gun' zones.

I'm not saying that people should or shouldn't carry guns outside the home, but if you are going to do so, you might as well do it everywhere.

Sure as hell the day you decide not to bring a gun with you is the day something happens. Hopefully you will never have to use it.
So they will censor your internet and still let you keep your guns? Thats cool I guess and will probably work out nicely, the redneck rate will sky-rocket
If you're gonna carry a loaded gun, make it one that HAS A SAFETY.
I've yet to see a gun.
Aussie Aussie Aussie?

The police in our state have them (lol 110 year old revolver design), and if you want to, and are willing to jump through enough hoops, you can own guns.

if you drop anything with a round in the chamber it's gonna go off, but with a single action at least it's not gonna catch your waistband and shoot you in the dick

I don't think police carry guns here in Tassie.

Yeah but I still wouldn't carry a revolver with the hammer on a round.
I just stand by the 1911 design, I know you probably think I am sucking the 1911 pole but I don't see any way of the 1911 accidentally going off without a fight. Even if you were to knock off the thumb safety there is a still a grip safety. And if you drop the 1911 the chance of it having a misfire is low if it has a firing pin block, even if the hammer slips the firing pin doesn't contact the round.

the safety system is about all the 1911 has going for it. it's biggest weaknesses are it's unreliable magazine and how pissy it is about different ammunitions (try loading hollow points into an M1911, I dare you)
not to mention how massive the gun is, it's damn near impossible to reasonably conceal the thing. and on top of that the shorter variations have a tendency to not complete a full cycle.
Also have you ever tried to actually clean an M1911? You need a full toolbox to do anything more than snaking the barrel
[editline]21st November 2011[/editline]
also people make fun of glocks for this all the time but I've seen more m1911s kb than any glock

Well, on public roads I would call it a privilege. If it is on your own land I would call it a right.
I work at a Giant in Virginia.
I heard about this at work. Crazy stuff.
And one of my co-workers house burnt down this last Sunday.
Giant is cursed. I'm probably next.
