then get the rift?
maybe i like vive's controller and design better? maybe i like the vive's specs over the rifts? maybe i like that i can use my own headset on the vive? maybe i like that vive has valve and therefore steam backing it?

Obviously it offers a lot of things you want so it should be worth the price anyway.
headsets on the Rift can be removed and replaced by your own headphones
Then stop whining? Obviously it offers a lot of things you want so it should be worth the price anyway.
who's whining? the fuck you on about?
I'm just waiting until they have a production building in/near the uk, so the tax/shipping doesn't make the price horrible.

These threads always seem to strike a nerve... Why is VR such a polarizing issue?
These threads always seem to strike a nerve... Why is VR such a polarizing issue?
Because for over a decade now people have been releasing nothing but garbage failure devices and have tried to scam people into pseudo "VR" solutions for quick cash for the longest time it's no wonder people would question it. I don't blame them.
Also people will blow $6-700 on a smartphone without second guessing it now but back in the day that was ridiculous.
It's still fucking ridiculous
People buying new 700 dollar phones are just gullible.
You realize that carriers offer new phones upfront for a cheap price and then you pay the full price over time through their contracts, correct? Sometimes is almost even cheaper to buy an unlocked phone upfront
So my left visual field will be shit? Won't that affect HUD or something.
Probably not, HUDs in VR will have to be projected across both screens anyway. You'll see it fine in your good eye, and blurry in your not good eye, but it'll combine the way anything else does in your brain.
You realize that carriers offer new phones upfront for a cheap price and then you pay the full price over time through their contracts, correct? Okay, you live in Sweden. In America, the system is totally different.
The question is with the higher price is it really worth picking over the oculus Yeah the "you can walk around the room and move around" thing looks cool and all but so did the Wii when it first came out. I feel like it doesn't go far enough to be anything more than a gimmick at this point
It has a higher resolution doesn't it?
No, they have the same res.
It has a higher resolution doesn't it?
The screens in the Vive and Rift are identical in resolution. There are other small differences though, for example the Vive's screen is a little bit brighter, and the Rift's screen has less SDE (screen door), and Vive having more vertical FoV with the Rift having more horizontal FoV. But resolution wise, they're the same.
Haha good one! No, I'm annoyed I have to purchase a bundle with an xbox controller and headphones I don't want then theirs the Vive with fucking phone services, I mean come on.
The phone services is a minor software feature, it's not jacking up the price dude. Be realistic. [editline]21st February 2016[/editline]
because it costs more money? for something i probably won't use?
Then buy a a Rift? [editline]21st February 2016[/editline]
maybe i like vive's controller and design better? maybe i like the vive's specs over the rifts? maybe i like that i can use my own headset on the vive? maybe i like that vive has valve and therefore steam backing it?
Well then boo hoo mate, there's no appeasing you. The specs are identical by the way, and you can remove the headphones from the Rift and use your own headphones. Maybe you should do 5 minutes of research before you start bashing things.
VR is too expensive imo. There's a gap in the market for a cheaper model somewhere.
Yes, because things never get cheaper. :| [editline]21st February 2016[/editline]
It has a higher resolution doesn't it?
Not until Gen2.
I'm just waiting until they have a production building in/near the uk, so the tax/shipping doesn't make the price horrible.
Rifts are shipped from Ireland iirc, so I don't think that'll ever be resolved.
are the pre-orders dropping on steam i cant find anything about htat.
Personally, I'd rather pay for something that has all the features you MIGHT need, than no features but only what you think you need if you don't think you need the features, remember that they're there for a very good reason. The rift pretty much totally needs headphones to really get the full experience, and using a keyboard and mouse with it would be SHIT. It's better bundled with it than paying ~60 dollars extra for something you absolutely do need. Just because some people may already have a controller and headphones doesn't mean they should really sell a 2nd bundle without, or not include them. It's too important to have those. It needs to have room scale tracking and the full package to boot. They can't cheapen it just for the sake of getting a cheaper product, it needs to be the best possible device so that VR has a really solid ground to start with and people after that push to get something even better than whats out there, or something cheaper. Of course, it'd be great to have cheaper bundles in the future for sure.
are the pre-orders dropping on steam i cant find anything about htat.
Probably find out tomorrow when they actually announce it instead of it being leaked and them releasing a blog confirming it.
is there any general consensus as to whether the rift or the vive is a better purchase notwithstanding the price?
are the pre-orders dropping on steam i cant find anything about htat.
We know nothing about any of this. It more than likely will be on the page I linked at top of the OP.
is there any general consensus as to whether the rift or the vive is a better purchase notwithstanding the price?
they aren't out yet so no one can say, no matter how much they've used both devices before release. Both have the same specs, both have great room solutions, both have great controllers. It's Microsoft VS Apple VS Linux. Neither is better than the other but they all have their differences.
Personally, I'd rather pay for something that has all the features you MIGHT need, than no features but only what you think you need if you don't think you need the features, remember that they're there for a very good reason
I just want some middle ground for people who want to get into VR. Its not a binary all or nothing approach, you can make a cheaper set and not have a "cardboard screen" and have it still be enjoyable and have a better model for those who want the definitive experience.

Maybe 400$, maybe even 150$, who knows. Monitors are getting decreasingly expensive. at this point though valve and oculus are trying to throw in all of their tricks at once and trying to make it a grand opening
is there any general consensus as to whether the rift or the vive is a better purchase notwithstanding the price?
vive is a better purchase because you won't get motion controllers for the rift till the end of the year
