You know how they engineered a lot of diseases before? Wait till this shit gets airborne.
All this stuff going on, with the teleportation and the creation of synthetic life, is leading me to believe that something truly phenomenal will be discovered by the end of the year...
Speaking of all that talk of uploading your mind, I really hope we get the ability to transplant entire brains in my life time. I really want to know if our "self" is housed in the brain, and by transplanting it, gaining immortality, should we ever gain the ability to completely clone humans.
but critics say there are dangers posed by synthetic organisms.
Lol balance, they can't even find something halfway smart to put in there so they just say "well there are dangers"

I hope we can make clones :D Get my clone to do stuff for me.
I hope we can make clones :D Get my clone to do stuff for me.
We can already clone things. People see cloning humans as unethical though so don't count on it.
I hope we can make clones :D Get my clone to do stuff for me.
Although if you make a perfect clone of you, why would he want to do your stuff?
I will so laugh if something from the film "28 Days Later" happens as a result of them fucking up and making a zombie virus.
Why would you laugh about that What the fuck, you sociopathic sick fuck, holy shit. [editline]08:07PM[/editline]
We can already clone things. People see cloning humans as unethical though so don't count on it.
I agree that it's really unethical.
And then they fuck something up and create a super-deadly virus by accident.
Viruses aren't cells. Also, this sort of thing has been happening for quite a while now. The only thing that's different is that it's a full-on replacement, as opposed to pieces and bits of a specific sequence on DNA. Still cool, nonetheless.
Dang if they start making babies with ideal traits, they better make bionic eyes or something for us.
Dang if they start making babies with ideal traits, they better make bionic eyes or something for us.
Bioethics is a large issue involving this. I, for one, do not support the making of perfect offspring. I believe that the modification of human life should wipe out serious disorders and diseases, but not for making "designer babies" thought up by their shallow, superficial parents. To be honest, however, I think genetic rebuilding will be moreso readily available before bionics will be. Costs play a big role, and raw engineering is a more pricey than modifying an embryo.
Dang if they start making babies with ideal traits, they better make bionic eyes or something for us.
They have these glasses that have electrodes that you stick to your head and it relays a black and white image of light to your brain so you can see light sources. Tests have shown that a legally blind person who could once see, was able to determine and pick up a stapler using the glasses. They are experimenting with optic implants that will basically give you a "HUD" like in a futuristic war game. Could display anything you want really. Heart Rate, Body Temp, Playboy channel... :q: They are also experimenting with growing new organs in the lab. The day's of not being able to find a kidney for little Jane are almost over.
And then they fuck something up and create a super-deadly virus by accident.
First off, viruses are not alive. Second off, there would be certain conditions that would have to be met (assuming you mean bacterial and not viral, although we probably could make viruses since we can make cells). You would have to create something that reproduced rapidly and something that would be detrimental. It would have to be resistant to everything the body throws at it, including heat, chemicals, antibodies and more. Third it would have to be DESIGNED to be transferable. Unlike evolved species of bacteria that have been designed by natural selection over thousands of years, a species designed by us would be at a CLEAR disadvantage as they haven't gone through all the rigors of real world problems over time so as a population have found the best possible method to get around our defences. If they were not designed for the specific intentions of moving from person to person AND surviving for long periods of time in colonies we should be ok. The ignorance about you people scares me. Read a fucking book.
According to psychology it's literally impossible to truly think this way
According to psychology you're full of shit as there isn't just "Psychology". There are schools and each school thinks something different and are open to the possibility that they are completely fucking wrong as psychology is an always shifting field. Any psychologist who says that nobody acts in a certain way is either an idiot or a liar as there are ALWAYS variables.
I've been thinking about this for about an hour and I think I've thought of a pretty good analogy for the Human-brain-to-computer-scenario well here it goes. The way I see it every time you fall asleep you lose consciousness, well every time you wake up again how do you remember who you are? The obvious answer being your memories. Well if you memories were taken away from you while you slept then essentially you would no longer exist. But if your memories were transferred to another host say a computer would it not feel just like waking up? Please share your views on this.
I assume with this technology we'll be able to make cock extensions? Because I need them real bad.
I'm waiting for the day a simple pill could give us modified embryos, and better eyes after our 18+ years of constant computer games.
The basics was is that when you are an embryo, you're tested for you're genetic ability. You're then split up and taken to different places, where the embryo that's you is then taken through procedures, like say if you were going to be a person who operates a lift, you would be bounced up and down each day so you would naturally feel best when going up and down in a lift. If you were going to be a pilot, you would be in a tumbler so you'd feel best when flying. Your entire life is mapped out from the second you come into existance.
But what if they'll do this to me and I'll grow up but then I'll want to work at a job other than what they've planned for me?
Lol balance, they can't even find something halfway smart to put in there so they just say "well there are dangers"
Imagine anthrax, but with the properties of Pyrolobus Fumarii. :colbert: I'd say that shits pretty fucking dangerous.
I'm converting to humankind, since we are god.
Take us to your leader. :am:
This isn't artificial life, they just made their own DNA and put in a cell that was already alive. This is basically Dolly the Sheep but with synthetic DNA.
This isn't artificial life, they just made their own DNA and put in a cell that was already alive. This is basically Dolly the Sheep but with synthetic DNA.
It's nothing like Dolly. Dolly involved transplanting 100% naturally created DNA into an embryo. This DNA has been created completely from scratch using a bunch of molecules. They didn't even transplant it into a living cell because the original DNA was removed, turning the cell into a dead sack of phospholipids.
I know somebody has probably already said this, but I'm sure this was done in the early 19th century by some British scientist who was driven from his home and had his lab burned for potentially disproving religion or something. He did it by keeping a certain mixture of chemicals in certain conditions though. Insects.
