U.S. State Science Standards Are “Mediocre to Awful”

Ohio has a B.
I am okay with this.
My state (CT) has a C. Fuck.
Pretty much this, i live in austin, and was born there.
It's a pretty big insult when you kids take a shit on texas when you don't even understand the geopolitical culture of the state, and don't understand how the state is larger than most western European countries.
Sweet, another Austinite who knows about what Texas really is. Half of this state isn't what everyone see's in the typical stereotypical Texas.
Go California!
I'm an art major, but I have been learning science related stuff pretty much all my life.
Po'haps the A/A- states can set an example to the other states.
I feel like the majority of the people posting in this thread don't understand what is being evaluated in the "study". It is an opinionated study that is based upon what the writer considers to be good standards. It is not ranking the states based upon performance, just the standards themselves.
-snip-
Really surprised MN(Bachmann) got a C. But not Alaska, they got an F.
No big surprise on CA, Caltech, UCs, they have better science I guess.
Maybe this is why California is the most hated state.
What the hell Oregon? Why do you fail at everything?
Education varies widely by what school you are in or what district. Inner city schools are usually shit and suburban ones are usually good.
Science is nothing more than devil's invention he uses to deceive us and make us more sinful!

Wooh! Illinois! D! This explains why everyone in my school is retarded at science classes
No way Arkansas has a B that is just crude lies.
Doesn't California have ridiculous illiteracy problems?
The link is the source for the article in the OP. If you click on each state you can see a breakdown of why they gave it the score they did. All of them read like pretentious bullshit and none have any actual science associated with them.
Yeah, I noticed that.
http://www.edexcellence.net/publications/the-state-of-state-science-standards-2012.html
They can go fuck themselves.
They aren't testing shit. They have no control, they have no proper variables, they have no objective testing process, and ultimately absolutely no way to repeat the testing procedure. They look at the standards for each state and then spew a bunch of bullshit about how it doesn't match their requirements.
This is shit science and is pathetic.
At first I thought this was another retarded post from Gunfox but then I got the joke.
8/10 for subtlety.
Because everyone in Texas is a bible thumping hillbilly right?
That's not what he said, though. He was implying that Texas should have a lower grade if they include creationism as part of a science course.

But we don't. At least not when I was in public education. It was all very secular. I don't remember any mention of religion in science class.
Given the job market of the future, it's a wonder schools teach science at all. You don't need to know the difference between igneous and sedimentary rocks to wipe asses in a nursing home or run a cash register at Target. The educated, well-paying jobs are flying out the door and being replaced with retail and healthcare, neither of which require science.

That's why I'm leaving before the ink on my engineering diploma is dry. AH-MURRRR-KUH FURRK YEARR!
I live in texas, and i've never had a science teacher mention god. The attitude that the science department at my school gives out is "Evolution, its this, believe it or not, know it for the test. We're not talking about creationism, deal with it"
It's not that they focus on religion or anything. Public schools just in general, don't do much to keep the students doing more than passing.
The fact that so many people on here agree that Texas is just all rednecks is an indication of how bad the history and geography portion is.

Except when you account for the high demand for STEM jobs in the US, with nobody qualified to fill them because of our lack in STEM education.
woo indiana

Well it's completely false.
Because so many companies are using more advanced tech, jobs that used to just have factory workers, now need people with engineering/robotics education. It's one of the easiest fields to find a job in the US next to healthcare.
New York for B+! Someone brought up creationism in my physics class once. MY teacher flat out told her it was bullshit.

Prove it.
For fucks sake, Connecticut, I thought we were better than this!
At least you don't live here in Arizona!
Go Indiana!
I'm okay with this, good job CA.
