The thing is that wording is already legally unenforceable by the Supreme Court, so it's already been de facto removed from the bill. There might as well be an asterisks by it. The reason for leaving it was they were trying to pass a huge set of bills relating to animal cruelty and most everyone agreed with, so it was moving very good. As part of the set of bills, they had to update some parts of this existing one thats been around forever, but for whatever reason they decided to leave the phrase in there, because as the bills sponsor claims, it would be too great of a risk to try and go through the process to remove it at the time and risk killing the whole momentum of the animal cruelty bill.
Instead the sponsor suggests that after the animal cruelty bills are passed, they push a bill that simply says "Hereby remove all unconstitutional language from the law" or something like that. Not only would that axe the archaic anal sex thing, but anything else that they might not even know about elsewhere thats been around forever.

Where exactly does the bill specifically mention anal sex though? It mentions an 'abominable and detestable crime against nature', but this phrase is not defined anywhere. This could literally be anything, why would it, of all things, refer to anal sex?
There is not even a single sexual reference in the entire thing, its mostly just about the treatment of animals.
Unless in American law there is a universal understanding of 'abominable and detestable crime against nature' being synonymous to anal sex, I'm inclined to call this one a hoax. Is there something about US law that I'm misunderstanding?

To be fair, I can kind of understand the underage drinking thing. Say you're in culinary school and need to cook with alcohol, you're underage and suddenly the teacher is asking you to do something illegal, to possess alcohol. Sure, most people would say whatever because it's common sense, but then some power tripping cop comes along and gives out fines like oprah gives out cars.
Its an oddly nonsensical law that when you think about it makes perfect sense
