5. Site Inspection
You agree to permit Valve and/or its authorized agents to inspect the Site(s) and the computers located at the Site(s) for the purpose of verifying that your use of Steam and the Student Subscriptions is in compliance with this Agreement. Any Site inspection under this section will be conducted during regular business hours at the Site(s). You agree to provide Valve’s designated Site inspection team prompt and reasonable access to the Site(s) and all computers located at the Site(s).
Who will be part of "Valve’s designated Site inspection team"?
Can people volunteer for such a job? :v:
Took a look at the website and I saw that chemistry lesson plans were planned. Chemistry? In Portal?
Those gels are made out of a specific brand of science.
If they just gave teachers the copy and didn't remove the other stuffs, I could see a massive outcry about
"You're adopted and that's bad"
or whatever the exact statement is.
However, I find this to be an awesome thing. When I was young I played a whole bunch of awesome games when we had free time! :D
It's a shame that not many teachers will take up this deal, VIDEO GAMES != EDUCATION in the average person's mind.
And even fewer have computers that can even run it
Garry should offer a free copy Garry's Mod to teachers.

Kids would be too busy gravity gun'ing chairs at each other
"Cave Johnson here, stay in school kids!"
well Oregon Trail worked pretty well
Oregon Trail was an educational game?
Shit, the only thing I learned from the Oregon Trail is you can't escape death by dysentery.
:v:
I volunteer my class to try this out. I shall report back. :eng101:

This message brought to you by the VDF, protecting Valve and Valve interests everywhere. Even in your pants.
Is that a VlogBrothers reference?
Not awesome. Keep the future generations as far away from games as possible!
This sounds pretty kickass, hopefully they'll get that video game design plan rolling soon. Wanna see if the technical school I'm gonna go to soon will consider this tool. Be nice to learn with Source SDK and stuff.
- Is the singleplayer campaign accessible? I'd rather it'd not be for them until late-middle-school, personally.
- Is the Steam Workshop accessible? I know they can't upload to it but can they download from it?
The difference is that Valve is an entertainment company. They sell content, not its container (hardware and operating systems).
I highly doubt Portal and Portal 2 were designed with "educational" value in mind.
Last I checked helping the development of your logic and reasoning skills is pretty educational, not to mention vital.

Video game youth culture went completely mainstream a long time ago, deal w. it. At least it's not an attempt to crowbar a WW2 shooter into history lessons or something like that.
Schools should stay a corporate-free environment.
Why so?
And what the hell am I supposed to be doing without the Adobe package? :v:
It's a shame that not many teachers will take up this deal, VIDEO GAMES != EDUCATION in the average person's mind.
I think this is a shitty idea.
Somebody should make youtube videos that go through the things in an educational but fun manner to demonstrate how this will work.
too bad you can't install steam on my school computers, what dumbshit would restrict this?
and then people bitched about the school system.
calm down, if teachers want to use Portal 2 they can.
My mom teaches gifted and special education.
She must utilize this.
Makes me wonder if I'll get to fool around with portal 2 once I get into computer/video game development. Would be very cool if that were the case.
Just everyone's bros and brahs at Valve being bros and brahs. And +1 to GabeN's massive heart.
If you read the article, it says that there is going to be a Steam for Schools version of Steam for this purpose.
As a teacher I can only cheer at valve for doing this.
