I used to really disagree on a part of Facepunch being a hivemind, and this is pretty much the case: every Ubisoft related post is either received with dumbs or funnies, misleading titles to make they sound even worse, games criticized by graphics and not gameplay, and such. tldr, just because at the moment all of the internet is hating on them, then people here will do it too, and just like they did with EA, later they'll find their actions cute or amazing. Oh well, hard to explain, but that should make some sense, if not, well, then nothing I can do.
Ubisoft gets a lot of unfair shit thrown at them. This is probably a minority opinion, but I do think Ubisoft makes good games, and they're willing to try new things the most of all AAA developers. But they keep saying and doing really dumb shit all the time. It feels like there's a very big disconnect between the developers passionate about their games and executives who only look at the the numbers. The latter are also the ones who keep saying and doing the dumb shit like rushing games to release or telling people to "not trust early reviews." Ubisoft needs to learn to stop saying dumb things.
HOW do you fuck up this hard with budget this massive and all hardware suppliers licking your balls just so you will gracefully allow their platform to host your AAA game?
I mean, they could probably afford the best developers working on games, and they probably have all of Nvidia Microsoft and Sony on a hotline 24/7. How do they still manage to make a game this shit? Is all the coding secretly outsourced to india?
It's from reddit so take it with a grain of salt, but someone said they push employees extremely hard, lots of pressure, lots of rushing, lots and lots of overtime, rushed Q/A that makes the team aware of problems, but they don't have time to fix them, etc.
holy shit, that's what next gen graphics look like? my 4 year old computer can make that game look better.
Stoooop and think! You're saying AC: Unity is an accurate representation of next gen graphics. It is NOT.

Howcome ? It may suffer from technical issues but you can't deny it is easily one of the best looking games out there right now, especially considering it's open world.
Close this thread please some mod

You're basically saying "You're not thinking for yourself, if you're not agreeing with me and my view".
Do you have any concept of how wrong that is?
First off, there's plenty of good reasons to think Ubisoft is a less than awesome company.
Their policies on review embargos, buying reviews, huge studios that are disconnected and samey gameplay and minimal innovation across series and some pretty seriously disappointing launches this year are plenty of reason to be disappointed with them.
Stop acting like you're the only who can be right. This hivemind shit has never been true.

Yeah ubisoft isn't the devil but they're not smart and they don't really care about their customers that much and they do make some pretty decent games, but the thing is, they're decent and they're churned out year round. They could be good, and be slightly, ever so slightly less frequent.
They have their problems.
who gets to decide which games get numbers and which games get subtitles?
Are we playing Resident Evil logic? Where there is no logic?

I'd say new storylines get a number, new games in the period get a subtitle, Black Flag and Rogue are in the same storyline as AC3, so it gets a subtitle, same for Revelation and Brothergood being in the same line as AC2. Unity is a new storyline and is 4, as in the 4th now story

That's part of the problem. They made good games with good concepts. And then they made the same game for the next several years.

Yeah, they're called sequels.
Yeah, they're called sequels.
Yeah except sequels tend to change major aspects like gameplay. AssCreed has been the same for years and Far Cry 4 is basically just FC3 with a new skin. Also, y'know, towers.

Sure, except for the part where they're all in new locations, with new stories, characters and game play.
Using Neogaf as a source is significantly worse than using any other unknown website as a source.
Why would you think this was a good idea.

Even browsing NeoGAF is a terrible idea. Why would you ever?

Throwing people at a software problem quickly becomes a case of too many cooks in the kitchen. A lot of times you need a small team working long hours, given that many programming problems are things that need long trains of logic and understanding to figure out - something that is far better suited to a few good people with a lot of time rather than a slew of good people who are trying to fix it by last week

You mean how people were criticising EA when it was doing stupid shit and started praising it once they started to listen to the customers a bit more and actually try to be decent for a change?
Why the hell do you assume everyone who is ragging on Ubisoft does it out of a weird Facepunch "hivemind", as if FP has such a central role in everyone's lives that it affects your thoughts and opinions. Is it difficult to see how people with similar tastes, hobbies and interests might end up forming similar opinions?
And who the fuck cares if the OP gets dumbed down or agreed or whatever, what difference does that even make? If you make a proper argument I guarantee even if you get dumbed down you will find people willing to either support your side or discuss the issue in a mature manner.
You really shouldn't be posting right now, it is very dangerous to type while on a very high horse.

As though that hasn't been the case since the dawn of computer gaming though?
Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Croc, etc. Any game in a series is going to have a lot of repeating elements, each building a bit on the last but all with the same core gameplay.
Edit: Come to think of it, a lot of serial games that we don't generally consider to be 'clone-games' (like AC, CoD, etc) are just the same base gameplay with a few additions and a new location to keep it fresh. GTA, Half-Life, Quake, Tycoon-style games. Often what we get from each new release is technological advancement, a new plot and a handful of new mechanics, but that's about it. In AC2 you got all sorts of gadgets, in AC3 you got tree climbing and whatnot, in that pirate one you got to drive boats around and fuck shit up with cannons. It's essentially the same progression we had in Half-Life, with the addition of the gravity gun in 2, genuinely nothing of consequence in Ep1 and a neato car and some new enemies and updated AI in Ep2.
It's like the whole issue of new releases costing $80, and this being 'too much' - it's not a new phenomenon, and it's not linked to any sudden boom of nasty capitalism or corruption in the game industry. I remember games like Gran Turismo 2 being around $80 when it first came out.

I did not say they`re the gods of videogame development, I`m well aware of the shitty development cycle, specially AC3`s (google the reddit post about it), I do know Ubisoft does a lot of SHIT but all people tend to do is shit on them even more. You may say I`m saying nonsense, but it`s basically kicking someone that is already fallen on the ground. What is the point? Give them a chance to stand up and do something!
Yup, their policies are also shit, but guess what: behind all of the shit, they do make some neat games, badly executed at times (Watch Dogs) but still fun to enjoy and play with friends. For me, games are still about either giving fun or not, if they do, then it`s good on my list (performance sometimes count, and I do say that Unity`s performance is really bad). Not saying I`m the only one right, like I said above, just tired of seeing people kicking who`s already fallen into the ground due to their recent actions and give them a chance just like EA got. But it does unsettle me how every single post on FP gets the usual ``this is ubisoft expect downgrade and 30fps lock`` posts, people only say legit things that are useful on their own topic at General Games Discussion. The hivemind is partially true, like I said, it`s not all, but some people do tend to follow whatever people say shit about the company to make themselves look funny and original on posts. Just wait for a new Ubi title to be announced and read the comments about it. All will be the usual downgrade/fake e3 demo stuff. YES they are wrong a lot of times, but what`s the point of non-stop hating? I mean Jesus, everyone does mistakes, specially when you`re too big to stand in your own feet.
And to clear off, no, I am not being hostile or saying I`m completely right, to be honest it doesn`t really even matter. Just speaking my mind; this is a forum after all. But as you could see above, my opinion got rated as a dumb because I did not act as people expected me to.
Even browsing NeoGAF is a terrible idea. Why would you ever?
Because a lot of developers post on NeoGAF and it's where a lot of gaming news starts.
And since hating Ubisoft has become main stream since Watch_Dogs, I welcome all of the dumbs, it proves how many (and which) of you tend to think as a hivemind. Oh well, just like it happened EA, in a few months FP will have a ''hitler did nothing wrong'' scenario.
rated dumb for that

but black flag was called "4"
