What's deathcore? Is that basically death metal?
Why is everybody putting "core" at the end of shit?
Also RIP in peace I guess.

death metal and metalcore
I sort of grew out of them a couple years ago, but still, holy shit. He just had a daughter like a year or so ago, maybe two.

Death Metal+Breakdowns from Hardcore Punk/Metalcore

Deathcore bands usually take influence from Hardcore genre playing style and death metal lyrical formats.
And why people put core at the end of "shit" is usually because:
a) They want to be part of the current "core" "scene"
b) They directly put core influences in to their music.
c) They somehow get the "genre" labeled on to them by fans or producers.
The more you know.
On topic: I was going to go see Suicide Silence later this year :/
I wasn't too big a fan of their later work (his highs sounded awful) but damn, this sucks.
I'm not going to lie, I hated suicide silence but he didn't deserve that. Good luck to his family.

A news website is supposed to give people news that they care about and they would want to read. Why would anyone want to read about 1000 people they have never heard of, whereas fans of suicide silence may want to read this. I thought things like this were obvious.

You go scream as hard as you can and see if you can gain thousands of loyal fans who will spend their money to hear you scream. Difference is, people like suicide silence whereas people hate you.

What even is "core"? Not trolling, I'm just ignorant and curious. To me half of these genres sound the same anyway, though I guess that's because I never listen to this sort of music.

Generally symbolises a genre that's been merged with hardcore punk afaik.
E.g. metalcore is a blend of melodeath and hardcore punk and grindcore is a mix of extreme metal, noise and hardcore punk.
Tbh, it's a case of subgenres gone wild, I understand the differences between death, black, doom, power and so on, but you reach a point where most bands fit into two or three genres due to how specific and overlapping the subgenres can get.

I don't real know but it kinda began with post hardcore I think. Which developed from hardcore (Hardcore is generally faster, thicker, and heavier than regular punk rock).
Deathcore evolved from both deathmetal and harcore so it's kinda a mix of those two.
It's really hard to explain :v:
back in my day there were only 3 genres - rock, pop, and rap

Wow you must be old.
Wow you must be old.
Just trying to state a point that genre names like "post avant-garde funk hardcore metal deathcore" are dumb
Wow you must be old.
Cept rap only really started being a thing at the end of the 70s, and there was definitely more than three genres at that point.

It's just kinda useful to have a label to apply to a specific type of music, that's all genres are.
Just trying to state a point that genre names like "post avant-garde funk hardcore metal deathcore" are dumb
But it's not, there's a clear difference when you actually listen to them.
back in my day there were only 3 genres - rock, pop, and rap
no there weren't

If you find any info in here incorrect, feel free to voice your own opinion, as this is mostly from my own knowledge of the genre. (which, to be honest, is lacking)
"Hardcore" is the offspring of grunge and underground punk music in the later years of it's time, which was around the 80's, that spawned bands like "Black Flag" and "Bad Religion".
At the time bands like these were still largely influenced by Punk and Grunge so there were very rare cases of "Screaming" and instead mostly relied on gang vocals and "yelling" (I honestly can't think of a better name for it).
Skip ahead a few years and you'll find that Hardcore has become pretty popular, spawning such sub-genres like
"Emotive-Hardcore" (slightly different from the "Emo" we know now), and more importantly "Metallic-Hardcore".
Metallic-Hardcore took heavy influence from metal bands like Slayer and to some extent Black Sabbath,
this genre of metal-punk then transformed in to another sub-genre "Metal-Core".
Metalcore became very popular in the early 2000's with bands like Underoath, Trivium, The Devil Wears Prada, and many others.
This is when Scream/Fry/Growl vocals made a huge appearance.
During this era of metalcore, deathcore silently came to be. Deathcore is Metalcore with heavy usage of Death Metal guitar riffs and lyrical styles. What makes Deathcore "Core" is the fact that is uses pretty much Hardcore exclusive features like: Drop tuning (an electric guitar tuned down several octaves with heavy strings) Breakdowns, and Screaming
So to sum it up "core" is pretty much any form of music that takes influence from Hardcore and post-hardcore.
Though honestly today people, fans and publishers, tack "Core" on to any genre they want but this doesn't mean that it has any influence from it's original roots.
Now mind you a lot of different Hardcore and Metal fans have different interpretations of what Core is,
but this is pretty much the way I see it. Sorry if it's a bit complicated.
I was listening to their new album so much recently.
A shame he died, he seemed like real bro. Bummed out that I never got to see them live, Suicide Silence is definitely one of my favourite bands.
back in my day there were only 3 genres - rock, pop, and rap
You know Blues predates all of those genres, right?
Just trying to state a point that genre names like "post avant-garde funk hardcore metal deathcore" are dumb
No, because with sub-genre names you can describe in a few words what a band sounds like and it's quite useful.
It's a shame he died but Mitch Lucker was a piece of work anyway. I hope they play "No Pity For a Coward" at his wake, worst song they ever recorded, making fun of people who commit suicide. Kid had no idea what hardship is.
I've seen Suicide Silence 3 times, twice at Mayhem fest and once with Megadeth.
They're pretty terrible and I hate deathcore but it still sucks he died.
