Either you shoot to control the population, because they have become a serious problem, or you shoot to eat. Shooting animals for "sport" is fucking disgusting.
I would say that most hunters enjoy the hunt not the actual kill. When I was younger I would find myself excited about going hunting until I got to the point where it was time to pull the trigger. I still go hunting/fishing but I respect the animal that I am hunting and try to kill it as humanely and quickly as possible. Also I only hunt what I intend to eat.

Like any predator we experience pleasure from hunting. I have no problem with hunting, or hunting dry runs as you suggest, only killing an animal that wasn't a major issue or isn't going to be eaten.
The pigeon stands almost no chance of survival, a disoriented bird being shot at with a shot gun low to the ground has little hope of the shot missing. Even if the shot misses other hunters would kill it.
Have you ever been to a canned hunt dude? Literally 75% of the birds simply walk off the fucking field into the wild because the hunters are generally sent out in organized groups with downtime in between each group going out, leaving the birds time to disperse (or flat out book it). Its actually pretty funny to just watch a bird trot down a hunting trail with impunity because there wasn't a hunting group out at the time to flush/shoot it. :v:

These birds are released one at a time and immediately shot they stand no chance.
Stupid animal rights hippies make me mad. And it's a fucking pigeon who cares, it's a stupid flying reptile practically. [editline]19th February 2012[/editline] This vid makes me lol but rage at the same time. These idiots practically stalk/chase this hunter for no reason other than hes a hunter. OH MAN WRITE HIS LICENSE PLATE DOWN yeah for all those crimes that he ... didn't commit? He pulls out a gun on them (not the best choice of action) but his friend calms him down.
Those two idiots are lucky they didn't get shot. [editline]19th February 2012[/editline]
I'm surprised so many people are siding with the hunters. Sure animal rights activists can be annoying bitches, but if they weren't on private property, they weren't doing anything wrong with the drone. Instead the guys who are hunting (in a rather inhumane way) decide to go double or nothing and also cause a few hundred dollars worth of malicious property damage, aimed toward a highway (and just because they're using shotguns doesn't mean the bullets suddenly disappear after a hundred feet, they keep on going, potentially hitting cars) The hunters sound like a bunch of crazy fucks if they start shooting at people's shit.
At no point do you see their drone get shot. You hear gunfire, yes. But those rotors could have broken when they crashed it.
With that title I thought the drone was shot down by an indigenous tribe or something.
It's South Carolina, so that's not too far from the truth.
This seems to be one of those situations that you really can't take one side. The hunters were releasing pigeons just to kill them, they shot an expensive piece of equipment owned by someone else, and they were firing towards a busy highway to boot. However, the animal rights activists were throwing their drone out there for the sole purpose of disrupting what the hunters were doing, which is just downright over-disruptive. At the end of the day, both of them did wrong, so you can't take either side. Even though I am very much for animal rights and dislike hunting personally, I just hate how a lot of these animal rights groups act like such assholes towards anyone and everyone.
The videos from that club show that the birds are only released one at a time while hunters shoot at them. These birds are released one at a time and immediately shot they stand no chance.
Oh OK. Yeah, I would agree with you then, that's hardly sporting.
Yeah, damn these animal ''rights'' groups right ??? Those are not wild pigeons. There is no population control, they are in fact contributing to the problem if the pigeons escape. Edited: cognitive dissonance much ?
Wait, what? I feel retarded, but I'm not making sense of your post.
The jackass fucks would have one of the planet's oldest and proudest traditions and sports banned because they're ignorant fucking twats.
lol oldest and proudest tradition. kind of a stupid tradition isn't it. and bullfighting is also supposedly an old and proud tradition. too bad that doesn't stop it from being incredibly inhumane.
I have yet to meet anyone around here that hunts for sport. Here in missouri, you kill it, you fucking eat it. I see where these SHARK guys are coming from, recreational hunting is something that is frowned upon in most of the hunter world.
I hate the double standards of most animal rights activists, I bet most of them own pets which is practically like owning a slave.
I bet most of them own pets which is practically like owning a slave.
That's only if you're a fucking idiot and chain your dog to a fence post 24/7, or keep it cooped up in the house all the time. With all the dogs I've had, I make damn sure that they're happy, I feed and water them when necessary , take them on walks, etc. Pet ownership is as good or bad as the owner, it is not universally that bad.

The game lot were legally allowed to remove it, in this case shoot it down. The Animal Rights idiots were just blowing everything up dramatically because they were doing something they shouldn't because they thought it was their right to try an stop something happening on private property which has been set up and organised legally. I personally don't agree with recreational hunting but they had all rights to shoot it down, so you tell me who is wrong now.
I applaud their marksmanship

Any shooter that didn't get their license off the back of a cereal box will tell you that you don't shoot towards a highway.
I can understand how it might feel rewarding to have gotten your very own food by hunting and killing it yourself, but it must also be remembered that the creature that you're killing can feel pain, and therefore inflicting any amount of discomfort that's unnecessary (e.g. for "sport") is a morally reprehensible act.
That's why it should always be done as humanely as possible. I only really agree with shooting an animal if it's for food or if it's a danger to others, so I can see where you're coming from.
The guys who shot those pigeons like that make every other respectable hunter, like my dad, look really bad...
Pigeon shooting is no more worthy of disgust than hunting in general. Whoever shot is a winner.
The drone was going to capture footage of the pigeon shooting. The shooters called it off when they realized they couldn't stop the drone. And when the drone went up anyway, they shot it. How is that winning? If killing pigeons wasn't disgusting, why didn't they just let the drone watch?

That might not be what actually happened.
THIS, This fucking bolded part is why I fucking HATE animal rights groups, anti-gun lobbies, and just hippies in general, they don't understand that there's a LIMIT to the number of birds/game that can be killed in a season, and that it's done to PRESERVE populations, to prevent overpopulation, and to control animal numbers so they don't overproduce and start encroaching on cities. The jackass fucks would have one of the planet's oldest and proudest traditions and sports banned because they're ignorant fucking twats. I'm glad their pile of shit got shot down, I hope if they try this again it gets show down again, and again, until they fuck off. Christ, I hate animal "rights" groups, all a bunch of hypocritical idiots.
I think they should replace the drone with their members taped to large kites.

How could the act of killing an animal solely for the purpose of pleasure be morally defensible in any way?
