Activision suggests video game pre-orders are on the decline

Games I've preordered in recent memory:
FRACT OSC
Goat Simulator
BattleBlock Theatre
The Bureau: XCOM Declassified
The first three, I have no regrets. Strangely, they were all titles between $10 and $15.
If The Bureau hadn't had, as those preorder tiered incentives, the entire rest of the XCOM library, I wouldn't have bought it at all. It had problems.
I know someone who preordered SimCity (2013). The words "instant regret" are insufficient to describe how much he wishes he'd saved his money and stuck to SimCity 4.
I don't trust preorders for AAA-tier games, and the publishers have nobody to blame but themselves.
Far Cry 2 was the last game I pre ordered.
Oh man that game was so fucking boring.
I pre-ordered Skyrim back in the day, and whilst it wasn't exactly Oblivion I still managed to get some joie de vivre from it. Didn't have all that much time to invest in it, but nowadays I still have the spare hours to pop in and quest.
Wasn't as much of a disappointment as ME3 either, especially since ME3 didn't have a thriving modding scene.
"Not being Oblivion" is actually a desired trait.

It's literally impossible because you have faith?
The last game I preordered was AVP 2010, eh it wasn't bad but it wasn't that great either
Doesn't even hold a candle to the older AVP games that's for sure.
It's literally impossible because you have faith?
It's not really a matter of faith, it's about logic and realism, we can easily assume they're not a company run by monkeys who are not aware of the consequences of doing everything they did 6 years ago and stopped doing in their last 2 titles, right?
brand/franchise recognition. They consistently sell, so the high demand merits higher prices. Even the shoddy side-scrolling mario filler games from 5 years ago are sitting in the used racks at my locals GS for $45+
I still can't find a copy of The World Ends With You for less than $25 and it's hella frustrating
I think the reason why pre-orders are down is because of lack of consoles.
During the seventh generation of consoles, the Xbox 360 and PS3 combined had a total of 164 million units. Even the best selling games for the 7th gen only reached a fraction of 164 million. Like Black Ops II only sold 25 million.
So now you got these new systems and they're selling well, but they haven't yet reached the number of units sold last gen. Thus, the number of pre-order games is gonna be proportional to the number of consoles.
I have Witcher on Steam, is there any way I can get the product key to use it for this? Since I didn't buy it through GOG.
I believe Steam offered a similar discount to GOG if you preorder from them and already own another Witcher game.
Let me check.
Yeah. Here you go.
Pre-Purchase and save 10%. Save an additional 5% if you own The The Witcher: Enhanced Edition or The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition on Steam.
I think the only game I've pre-ordered was GTA V. Got cool stuff with it, but I haven't found any other games worth pre-ordering. Probably because video games are too damn expensive nowadays.
I only preorder games that I know will be good. Like The Last of Us and GTA V
Sometimes it's cheaper to preorder.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance preorders on STEAM got you the game for ten bucks less, for example.
thing is with Steam though is you know the game came out before on PS3/XBOX360 and you know the was good by reviews alone.
Last game I pre-ordered was Aliens: Colonial Marines. Managed to cancel the pre-order though after reviews came out, seriously dodged a bullet there.

But only the next gen.
Is there a Pokemon you're attached to in Colosseum? Download that onto Ruby/Sapphire, use the Pal Park to get it onto Diamond/Pearl, use PokeTransfer to bring it to Black/White, then use a Pokebank account to get it to X/Y. And no, you cannot skip any step. Hope you have a game for every generation ever
Last game I pre-ordered was Aliens: Colonial Marines. Managed to cancel the pre-order though after reviews came out, seriously dodged a bullet there.
you got really fucking lucky there then.

If you want to pre-order The Witcher 3 from GoG to get all those goodies but have either (or both) of the first two games on steam here's what you do:
1. Find the game(s) in your steam library and select it.
2. On the right side of the client click "CD Key"
3. Click "COPY KEY TO CLIPBOARD"
4. Go to http://www.gog.com/witcher/backup and paste your key in
Now you can get the full discount and you have a DRM free copy of your game(s).
The first game I ever pre-ordered was [sp]Sonic Unleashed[/sp].
Be careful what you buy.
every game sold from the store near me comes with all the pre-order stuff
I pre-ordered only two games ever:
Dawn of War 2: Retribution Collectors Edition (no regrets!) and...
Command and Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight
Enough said.
I went to a midnight launch for BF3 and some dude brought his laptop with one of the Star Wars movies. The Gamestop we were at ordered a bunch pizzas and soda, the manager was a chill dude and paid for all of it.
In Portland, OR I brought a projector and about 15 gallons of chocolate stout. Everything is lax out there, we even had a shot with security
