but a "no tech at the table" rule helps with that.
could always do that game where everyone stacks their phones in a pile and puts them on vibrate, first to break down and check their phone covers the bill. (it's easier to convince people if you add a safe situation where everybody covers their own portion of the bill separately if you all survive without checking)
Of course they noticed, they probably just dudbt want to make a scene.
Why would I want to talk to some random stranger on the bus? Better yet, why would some random stranger on a bus want to talk to me?
I was not talking about bus trips, but everywhere. Like someone mentioned, it also happens when you're meeting with your friends. Suddenly someone/everyone is trapped in their phones. As someone who didn't bring a smartphone, as i said, it's a pretty bad scenario when you notice. You look at other tables and you realize it's happening everywhere. [editline]9th October 2013[/editline] I brought a picture. Thanks google images. If you're using a smartphone, you don't even notice.
all of my friends have smartphones and, unless we're all insanely bored and waiting for something and have zero other forms of entertainment, phones only come out because someone says "oh I got something to show you" and a few people crowd around a person. the joke about the nuclear family gathering at dinner only to stare at their phones has been around since the invention of texting, but it's pretty rare that people are that dysfunctional and distracted.

this isn't really because of digital technology, this is train culture. hell, mib did a joke about it over a decade ago. it's common for people to completely zone out on public transportation.
Yeah, maybe not. I hate when i go somewhere and just about everyone is using their smartphones and not talking to each other. I always think: "I don't wanna be like that." So, i just don't buy one. It's a pretty sad scenario. You see people seating next to each other, yet they are so far from each other. I hate that.
Next time you get mugged, you'll be so glad you got one. "Give me all your money!" *thomas the tank engine theme ringtone* "Hold on, I got a call coming. Oh, it's for you." *fade to black* *BANG*
That has got to be classified as some sort of firearm, and a very concealed one at that.
Yeah. Any-Other-Weapon, as defined by the ATF. Legality varies state-to-state and some ban specific AOWs for whatever reason.
hard to claim the person is too engrossed in their phone to pay attention to the criminal when they have your phone it would be like this with anything else if someone stole something out of your pocket or hand, you wouldn't be paying attention to them before they do it because you're in a crowd and tune it out, and by the time they grab something they're running the opposite direction and it's kinda hard to see a face through the back of a head If you're on the train to the same old place for the thousandth time I don't really blame anyone for just tuning out the world until they get where they're going. This isn't some epidemic of laziness, these same people would be reading books and magazines if we didn't have cell phones with internet connections. If someone's not reading on a long bus/train ride they're just bored and sleepy, which isn't any better
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo7ZN4_w98Y
Lets blame all the passengers for the killing of a university student. Its not like you are looking for people with guns when on your daily commute.
