Nothing. Spartan is wrong. It's an active volcano, and it will erupt again someday.
It's just unlikely that it will erupt any time soon. As in the next few centuries or millennia for that matter.

Parts of it can erupt but not the whole thing. It's much too large

that's not how it works
that's not how it works
Wasn't yellow stone predicted to be bigger then we though years a go? It's much too large to erupt

It's not "much too large to erupt" and I have no idea where you got that idea from.
[editline]21st June 2015[/editline]
Not to mention, Yellowstone isn't even the only mega caldera on the planet and isn't the only threat we have.
But yellowstone can still erupt. I don't know why you think it can't.

I just can't see it erupting like a normal volcano it's just too big
From the United States Geological Survey's Yellowstone Volcano Observatory:
What type of eruption will occur if Yellowstone erupts again?
Yellowstone's volcanic and hydrothermal history suggests the potential for various kinds of eruptions in the future. The likelihood of a certain type of eruption occurring in the future can be judged by how often eruptions have occurred in the past.
The most likely type of eruption would not be volcanic but, rather, hydrothermal. This type of small, but still explosive eruption can occur from shallow reservoirs of steam or hot water rather than molten rock. These reservoirs are the sources of Yellowstone's famous geysers, hot springs, and fumaroles. Such explosions could blast out shallow craters more than a kilometer wide; as has occurred in the northern Yellowstone Lake Basin, including Mary Bay and nearby Turbid Lake and Indian Pond, and in western Yellowstone National Park north of Old Faithful. Each of these craters was produced by steam blasts within the past few thousand years.
The most likely type of volcanic eruption at Yellowstone would produce lava flows of either rhyolite or basalt; rhyolitic lava eruptions could also include explosive phases that might produce significant volumes of volcanic ash and pumice. Such eruptions could range in size from smaller than the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens through much larger than the 1991 Mount Pinatubo eruption.
The least likely but worst-case volcanic eruption at Yellowstone would be another explosive caldera-forming eruption such as those that occurred 2.1 million, 1.3 million, and 640,000 years ago. However, the probability of such an eruption in any given century or millennium is exceedingly low- much lower than the smaller eruptions mentioned above.
http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/volcanoes/yellowstone/yellowstone_sub_page_50.html
It definitely can erupt.
I just can't see it erupting like a normal volcano it's just too big
You don't need to see it functioning like that. That's how it will.
I just can't see it erupting like a normal volcano it's just too big
Yellowstone isn't a normal volcano. It's a supervolcano.
meteor impacts are natural events
also humans are a species just like any other on the planet so everything we do is "natural"
"natural" and "unnatural" are stupid fucking keywords that hippies used to try to kill off nuclear power
"natural" is entirely meaningless in that context. It has meaning in others, but not that one because it's too fucking vague. We evolved larger brains, sentience, and better manipulating limbs. The application of these things is as natural as the bacteria decomposing rotten vegetation that came before us.
Things we make and build are part of the natural process of an apex predator expanding and consuming. We just got really fucking good at it compared to other previous apex predators (thank you brain capacity!). Problems caused by our "overconsumption" are less to do with how much we use and more to do with the sub-optimal methods with which materials are used and distributed. We make enough food to feed the world with ease, but we refuse to eat things that don't look perfect and bin them instead for example (genetic modification of various fruits is actually looking to prevent "ugly" fruit, we're working on ways to make things like wheat massively more nutritional, hardy and provide greater yield (sorta-kinda helped researchers with this one, only reason I ever came across it!), so we are trying to find solutions to our periodic stupid moments).
It makes me so upset when people I know tell me that Climate change isn't real and that it isn't hot outside. We just got too used to air conditioning. No..
Are these heatwaves we're experiencing now caused by climate change, Im fucking dying here, its a red alert for temperature her in cordoba, you just cant walk in the sun

You have heat waves, here it is raining for the last three years. 2-3 months without rain was common 10 years ago, now it's like living in UK.
I just can't see it erupting like a normal volcano it's just too big
Reaaaaaally looking to find the logic behind that.
Thats almost like, "this truck can't drive, it has too many wheels!"
Eh, technically you could be correct.
It might just outright explode entirely afaik.
Which would be worse, I guess.

On heatwaves, this Saturday it's gonna hit 37 degrees celcius.
Pretty sure that's been a LONG time since that happened in the Netherlands.
I feel for the people closer to the equator, i'm melting already, and it's only like 30 today o.o
I'm seriously starting to wonder if the current weather here is caused by climate change.

In my 16 years I've never seen weather like this, which is kinda unsettling.
I wonder how another Civilization would react 10,000 or 1000,000 years down the line to finding out there not the first intelligent species on there planet?
Then again as much as I would be interested in finding out I doubt our species is in any real danger of extinction thankfully.
Humans won't die out for another 250,000 years if we go by this BS, we are all more likely to die by 1000 man made cataclysms before anything that has to do with this shit takes effect. Focus on the problem at hand, for example, why are creatures as smart as us bombing the everliving fuck out of less fortunate members of our same species, and for no god-damn reason? 1000s more are dying from that that then this extinction is doing. How about humans as a race fix the problems we created with society, then it would be a lot fuckin easier to clean up the pollution, those bombings and radiation will cause a lot of it.
alright I take it back. If this 116 degree weather kills me, then I died by the extinction.

You are part of one of those species my friend, we are not the first intelligent primates, just a surviving offspring of the many ones before us.
Man, crops in our country are already getting hard to grow. I'm a farmer myself and our family won't be able to live off growing crops soon. On the brink of being poor and now we have to water everything ourselves to substitute for rain. My mother and father have been taking care of their land for more than 25 years and I've never seen them this quiet when I ask them about how our grain growth is doing.
Well I hope that solar takes over relatively quickly.

I mean a different genus entirely, and one that would never have seen civilisations our scale before.
Would they scavenge our cities? Live there? Only Unearth one maybe when they reach 20th century tech?
Would we be a cautionary tale? Powerful precursors? Gods?
Well I hope that [del]solar[/del] nuclear takes over relatively quickly.
ftfy
never gonna happen though, unfortunately, because of all the uninformed people who think "omg nuclear energy is dangerous!!! because it's dangerous!!!"

Yeah, i should leave a note to them. Like, "hey, you can take everything, but don't you touch my precious collection of bottlecaps, you future bastards".
There will be no sign of our cities in the future so far away anyway, just some small remnants of the most sturdy buildings here and there maybe.
This is like hearing that your planet has terminal cancer.

Internet should be around, imagine an entire repository of a civilisation.
From there History to there sciences to the very thoughts of there people.

Gain more power for your self in order shape world events.
just ignore it the situation will quickly become irrelevant and everyone will be happy
if it doesn't then kill yourself cause that's what i'd do

Dunno man... 30,000 conservative votes against 7000 votes being divided between 2 left/centrist parties doesn't give me much hope.

The fallacy is believing this is the only way to have power, which is gain office and a title.
This planets only gotta last another 60 years or so, that being said I'm not too worried.
has anybody done a direct comparison with the rate technology doubles vs extinction rates?
