PSA: Windows XP users will receive a global popup tomorrow that warns of its impending death

I used XP up until 2011, and I have a netbook that still runs it well
as long as you aren't an idiot when you're on the internet, you SHOULD be able to run XP normally.

That works fine when your OS is still supported. You seem to be missing the argument. No one's saying XP is unsecure, they're saying it's going to be very unsecure when the support ends.
I'm baffled about how some of you guys care so much about other people not upgrading their OS. Just let them face the consequences.

The consequences come back at us in the form of DDoS botnets.

This. Once every xp machine is completely ownable, theres going to be an NTP server on every single one. The giant death ray of NTP reflection attacks is going to be completely uncontrollable

it's funny how we have a near constant bandwidth baseline for ddos

and then you get this shit

Don't worry guys, you can bet your ass people will hang onto Win7 just as people did with XP.
Don't worry guys, you can bet your ass people will hang onto Win7 just as people did with XP.
Sadly yes, it's going to keep happening
You're all talking like Win 7 and 8/.1 are truly safe against viruses and other malware shit.
Seriously just let everyone use what they want, its their own problem not yours.
not truly, but definitely more secure than XP
Maybe I'll get W7 now!
I dislike your avatar and I dislike your username and I dislike your title and I dislike your post count and I suggest changing all of them because they contain things that I do not like though I don't care if you do it or not
I understand your concern about businesses and XP but christ, can't you let him enjoy whatever the fuck he wants? He's biased towards XP because he. likes. it. If you tell avarage Joe using XP that XP is outdated and at risk of getting viruses he'll likely bend over and get 7 or 8.1 without any bias whatsoever because to Joe it's all the same, Pentium will not because he knows what he's doing so quit putting effort into it. You've explained your point and everyone is bored as fuck of your stupid arguing. I also really have a problem with your attitude because it seems you think your opinion about XP is fact and I agree to a certain extent that XP is outdated but god just let him use XP if he already said no I won't switch to another OS because you bitch and moan about it
Yeah he can use XP I don't care
but the entire point is that XP is outdated, and his point that peoples paranoia is unjustified is silly and biased. People going away from XP is a good thing unless they knowingly CHOOSE to like it.'
Do you really think I'm having a tweak over him using XP? No, I don't give a shit. He can use windows 1 for all I care. He can poop on a desk and type on it for all I care. It literally doesn't effect me.
But it's still outdated and acting like people are just paranoid is really silly.
Just because he runs XP well doesn't make XP any better at all come its age. Anyone using XP, even when experience, who doesn't use XP out of wanting to use old tech, puts themselves at higher risk. This isn't to say something will happen, but it's more likely to than if they had another system.
EDIT:
Rereading your post, holy shit, you're bitching about MY attitude? God damn buddy, that's fresh.
As much as i want XP to die, we still have computers at the school i work on, and we don't really have money to buy new ones yet..
I hope that day comes soon.

I sort of lol'd the way you put "We still have computers at the school I work on", like they're about to be destroyed. Are you sure they can't run Windows 7?

Yeah, they're really old. We got some cheap machines recently though, and they work.
Windows 7 only needs 1GB of RAM and a 1Ghz processor. It's not going to run great, but there are a few things you can disable to make it run faster

I'm waiting for windows 9 to be revealed. I'm skipping win8 like I did vista. It gives them more time to perfect the design changes they are wanting to keep.
A lot of you people need to calm the fuck down. If someone decides to put themselves at risk by using old computers, SO BE IT. That is THEIR choice and NOT yours to make.
Let them do whatever they want, and mind your own business instead.
what is a botnet
Keeping as many people as possible on currently supported software is in every users interest. It sometimes isn't possible (or just highly impractical) to do so (in the case of outdated software), but just letting ~30% of computers in the world run unpatched, exploitable software will affect us all in the end.
edit:
I should probably have read this page before posting.

W7 doesn't like 1ghz celery processors, believe me
His school computers hopefully aren't that bad... hopefully
Stop using XP, dammit. I'm normally all for not updating whenever a new version comes out(God only knows how many dumbs I get from people who think you have to update the instant it comes out when I mention this), but come on. XP users are holding the entire industry back. Windows 7 is a legit upgrade in every way so get on it.

Oh they probably are. My old high school was still using Pentium II dells running WinME in 2008.

This baby processes celery at 1 Billion operations per second!

How about putting linux on it?
Munich switched entirely to Linux and saved over 11 Million Euro's.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LiMux
Can you upgrade to Win7 from XP?
Because only other way to update a system without losing data is to buy another HDD for the OS.

They need to run Office, no alternatives.
They need to run Office, no alternatives.
Open Office can open office docs and save to doc, ppt, xls and other formats before the new formats became default.
Open Office can open office docs and save to doc, ppt, xls and other formats before the new formats became default.
They also need to be able to run office add-ins.
Yeah, it's not going to happen.
We already have a full subscription on the licensing center, so no linux here.

Or backup the most important stuff on a USB drive?

lol you're really saying openoffice is a replacement for ms office in business
lol you're really saying openoffice is a replacement for ms office in business
lol because in most cases it is
theres a reason alot of businesses are being able to get away with using google apps for word processing and spreadsheet. the office platform is incredibly powerful, but the demographic that actually uses all that power is abysmally low. most people and even businesses who own office are absurdly oversold
[sp]I am in no way saying that it is a proper solution when things like add-ins and vb macros are required[/sp]
