Because Fox News wanted to transfer people's existing hatred of Obama to a piece of legislation he has no direct control over. Even after Bush's handouts to the rich and powerful expire, we'll still have the lowest taxes in the developed world. Quit bitching. This is what it's going to take to get the deficit back under control.
you don't quite understand taxes and businesses, and the incentive system. if taxes are too high, you average citizen is just going to say "fuck that", if he's buying goods for his business or even consumer goods. Something like only 30% of the population in recent years actually pay taxes. why make it worse? it has been proven that lowering taxes raises revenue. more people will be like "alright, that's reasonable, i'll pay". see reagan or even bush's tax cuts, the revenue increased dramatically.
Ye Bush still left us in a shithole so foul that you'd die before you even hit the ground.
I can't wait till these taxes take effect. Republicans can make the claim that they cut spending until they're red in the face, but that won't make it true. The reason the dollar is so weak right now is that we're practically drowning in foreign debt, and the weak dollar is just the economy's way of correcting for an incentive and product shift. Here's what I mean in layman's terms. Say you go the the store to buy a thing, lets call it a fuck. In under a typical democratic administration (according to statistics going back through the Kennedy years), you have less money because your taxes are generally higher. But because the funds have been put into government programs (great society, Clinton reforms, Obamacare etc.) the dollar's value is higher and your fuck will most likely be cheaper. Under a Post-Reaganomics republican administration, despite what the American people have been led to believe, we spend almost exactly the same amount. Whenever a Republican President presides over a democratic congress, his proposed budget is an average of only 4% less than that of the congress because of myriad private sector subsidies and increased military spending, presumably replacing liberal social programs. If one were to then include the tax breaks presented to the American people, we generally end up WAY over budget, when controlling for booms and busts. So basically your fuck is more expensive. Most people don't even realize that they have less money under republican administrations because they have more dollars. Even more distressing is the ways in which both parties reintroduce their spent cash into the American economic environment. Democrats distribute it fairly evenly across all tax brackets depending on who the beneficiaries of a particular service are intended to be (EX: medicaid would go to the bottom, energy reform funds would go to the top). Republicans tend to institute very top heavy tax breaks that never seem to "Trickle down" as Reagan would say (according to most every standard of living poll). But now I'm basically just telling you stuff you (should) already know. Tl;dr Republicans and Democrats spend the same amount of money. Dems pay for it, Reps don't. You pay the difference in inflation anyway, might as well get some nice new social programs out of it. [editline]07:40AM[/editline]
you don't quite understand taxes and businesses, and the incentive system. if taxes are too high, you average citizen is just going to say "fuck that", if he's buying goods for his business or even consumer goods. That's not true. You're thinking of the number "47 percent don't pay any income tax". Which is a bullshit number anyway as the CBO has that number at about 10%. You're obviously too young to have paid taxes judging by your punctuation but the top 40% of earners carry 86% of the tax burden and almost 35 percent of Americans have their federal taxes taken out of their pay check directly. That revenue relationship is bullshit as well, and has been proven so time and time again. That's why you never hear Republicans bring it up. Because our tax system is so full of holes, when taxes are higher, less revenue gets reported by large corporations with the means to hide said funds. A doesn't cause B. A and B are both caused by C. I bet you're probably the kind of person who thinks that more police lead to more crime or more doctors lead to more sickness, right?
Could kill off or reduce spending to a lot of agencies that have purposes other agencies have, or don't do their jobs well...
Like the military, when was the last time they did something that didn't involve invading a third world country? World War 2? Atleast we aren't spending 3 trillion dollars invading the wrong country still.
Like the military, when was the last time they did something that didn't involve invading a third world country? World War 2? Iraq didn't cost 3 trillion dollars. Bush's bailout did. 3. I agree, military spending should be curtailed, but so should handout programs, or at the very least have better steps in place to stop fraud
It's 10% (soon to be 15%) for people that make less than 8,350. Look it up.
provide a source because i doubt extremely that it's true and i'm not going to look for it unless of course it's going to be in tandem with a raise in minimum wage which is perfectly possible, we tend not to tax lower than 9k because they're a) students and b) the poorest of the poor
You are, does that mean everyone else is willing. I'm sure you would be willing to go ahead and work in a soup kitchen for a day. But does that mean we should have everyone forced to at least 24 hours of community service a year? If it is mandatory, it isn't generous nor charitable.
the purpose of the 40% tax is to pay off our goddamn debt because unlike most i actually recognize that if our debt continues to rise our political system will be at the mercy of China within decades considering how many fucking trusts in the american government they own republicans really should support raising taxes because if they don't in the near future china's gonna come steppin up for their money back and use it either as a way to incite a war (if we're forced to recount our debt, which is unlikely) oRRRRR (the one conservatives should worry about) they'll start to have a say in the workings of american government tldr if you don't pay off our debt and stop bitching the chinese can pretty easily begin to take over the us govt and then impose massive economic regulation so REALLY its in your best fucking interest to shut up and pay up and yknow there's the whole benefit to society thing and economic stimulation sooo [editline]11:08PM[/editline] also fuck no i already worked in a soup kitchen for several years of my life it's a hell hole i'd rather pay taxes to the government so they can hire someone to do it for me, and provide better and more universally disbursed services across the nation
You can't complain about federal debt and then bitch about tax increases.
Just watch me! This is the land of freedom
Except the middle class, which get taxed to death and dont get in on any of the social programs.
Yeah like infrastructure, you never use that. Nothing is free in this world, buddy. your income is going to vanish in one way or another. if the government cannot provide services, then you will go to private businesses and corporations. Unlike the government, businesses are trying to cut a profit. A government is trying to keep people happy and voting for them in the polls. If you don't like spending that extra 20 dollars in taxes that will inevitably go to help people less fortunate than you, then you'll have to deal with the ugliness of ineqaulity, such as a high murder rate, and depressed cities. Fucking automerge. [editline]05:31AM[/editline]
Agreed. I think the proper response is tariffs. Charge a fee/tax on all goods being shipped in from overseas. It will raise the cost of the product, which will shy away consumers, which will then cause the company to choose between failing and moving their products back to the US where it becomes cheaper to sell.
Yeah we tried that once, it was one of the main causes of the great depression.
You Americans have one of the lowest tax rates anyway.
And all things considered, a pretty low standard of living. Not to mention the wealth distribution in the US is absurd. Like 7% of the population holds an immensely high amount of the wealth in the country, most of which probably just goes towards buying stupid bullshit. I mean, I think there should be an ultimate "reward" dream in capitalist society, but some people just have such disgusting amounts of money that they would never ever need. Tax the shit out of them.
Gotta thank all those corporations for out-sourcing
Gotta thank people for their paradoxal ability not to see, that they want more money from the work they do, but wanting to buy cheaper and cheaper products for those money. Companies follows the market, and when the market says that producing in the U.S. would cost to much compared to China, then companies move to china.
Yeah we tried that once, it was one of the main causes of the great depression.
Huh, funny, and to think I thought it was caused by high unemployment, debt inflation and a free-falling stock market....kinda like what is going on today.
Huh, funny, and to think I thought it was caused by high unemployment, debt inflation and a free-falling stock market....kinda like what is going on today.
more due to the housing bubble poppin', y'know, those greedy rich fucks running banks would hand out balloon mortgages (basically: "OH YEAH OF COURSE YOU'RE APPROVED, GO AHEAD AND BUY, DON'T WORRY ABOUT MAKING ANY PAYMENTS" and then no payments were required for a term of [usually] 5-10 years, and then BAM they demand all of the money), and of course, because people couldn't pay them off, the banks would reposess the land, and then their investments would just go belly up because noone was there to pay for the land! lack of government regulation is pretty much the reason for every economic disaster in the states it's also the reason we have a very explosive economy in that we have periods of MASSIVE expansion, but really, i'd rather take a slow uphill than the ups and downs we've got going now.
lack of government regulation is pretty much the reason for every economic disaster in the states
Except Protectionism, which contributed to the Great Depression as well. But he's also advocating for that. :colbert:
All useless opinions from liberal-wannabe kids who think they know everything. Obama campaigned on the fact that taxes would not raise for those making 250k or less. He lied! That's the point of the news article. Many people criticize the republicans for not being responsible, and catering to the rich. And on the other side, those same people will say that republicans are creating a killing the middle class. They're hypocrites. Obama is hurting the small guy, and supporting the corporations.

You know I find it hard to take that article seriously. It uses the word Obamacare I mean come on.
So does most everybody in the media?
Goodish, we need taxes to get out of the debt or something along those lines
We need taxes? Wow, once you actually start paying them you'll regret that statement. I don't understand anyone that blindly follows a certain party. I think if you agree with either extreme side you're being an idiot. Republicans and democrats are stupid, and they both have valid points. If you're going to say someone is wrong with just the idea that they are liberal, or republican, you're an idiot. Don't blindly vote democrat or republican, vote on your opinion. Do some research. Hear the facts from both sides, then make your decision.
You guys are retarded, the taxes go to pay off your debt and pay for social programs. The more taxes, the better off everyone in the country is.
Social programs that just throw us further into debt?
Banks were forced to make those loans by legislation passed by Clinton, and then piled on by Bush.
i'm talking about the great depression i don't comment on the clinton administration because I know jack shit about it minus the fact we had a net surplus when clinton left office before the wars in iraq and afghanistan came along and sent that down the shitter
Lack of regulation causes actual physical disasters, IMO, but cause economic damage by raising prices so the companies can afford to pay for all the shit the government forces them to do...
uh inflation is due more to the fact that banks reduce interest rates which floods the market with more loans which reduces the value of each dollar spent do you know like anything about the federal reserve? yes government regulation costs money to companies (minimal, really, especially on middle class businesses, which are the only ones we should care about) but that really has little to do with the raising of prices on products. while consumers do bear the burden of gov't regulation, prices increase far more due to the increasing cost of materials and shipping and fuel across the west
From the looks of it Clinton was one of the best presidents the country has ever had, is that like...true?
