Too bad we have 300 million people living in our country rather than just 50 million. You Brits are generally smarter than the average American also, may explain why it works out so well.

The fatcats will always have priority in this world, like it or not, but it's the sad truth. Some people are nobles and some people are serfs, nothing will ever change.
That wasn't his point.
Natural selection is survival of the fittest. Basing on who can reproduce the most has nothing to do with fatal injuries.
It might actually. It merely acts like a filter, the people with money survive and those who don't die. Therefore, the people who have more money spread their genes. It's not going to make human genetic progress go any farther though, it's only going to make rich people spread their genes. If income mobility (the ability to get rich) exists, then the people who's behavior and who have minute genetic advantages might pass those genes on if it helps them get money. But it's really unnecessary as I doubt that it's going to last long enough to make any advantage, much less said genes are going to make much effect. Instead, what it's probably going to do is just make people suffer, because income mobility is almost non-existent as of late. And I doubt evolving has anything to do with being rich and decadent and hording money.
So seriously, don't talk about Social Darwinism unless you understand the meaning of it.
Well you're probably eligible for some kind of rebate or something.
Yeah, you should be. I was making $200 a week last year and I got it all back in the rebate.
By the new healthcare plan?
Because like I said, 1/5th of my paycheck goes into taxes.
yes that's called income tax but lower income people aren't taxed by the healthcare bill
I pay for health care for my wife, two kids, and myself. Over $1200 a month. I have to work for a week to pull that off every month.
I pay for health care for my wife, two kids, and myself. Over $1200 a month. I have to work for a week to pull that off every month.
And with any luck, the competition in the marketplace from a public option will reduce that, along with making available subsidies for people like you who have to devote 25% of their total income just to health insurance that they could be cheated out of at any moment. If that's your income bracket and you already have health insurance, there will be zero tax increase or any other cost to you. Unless your insurance company decides to go petty and milk their customers for everything they're worth as revenge for letting health reform happen, in which case you'll have the option to tell them to go fuck themselves and switch to a different plan.
The problem is not the doctors or the hospitals, it's the insurance companies. I shouldn't have to work four months out of the year to pay for health care. Then another four to pay for taxes. And lets not forget all the taxes I pay for everything I want to buy. We're getting ripped off in a major way and people like myself are starting to get a bit upset by it all. I'm working my ass of so some fat cat can sit on his.

I can agree with that. I don't like the fact that our government seems to have misplaced it's testicles when it comes to trust-busting, and government waste has reached a point of massively inflating the cost of everything we try to do, resulting in choosing between higher taxes or a higher deficit. I honestly think we could balance the budget and provide healthcare/education to everybody without outrageous taxes if we could stop with the ass-backwards waste. Medicaid can't even buy generic drugs for a fraction of the cost, they're stuck shelling out taxpayer money for the name-brand stuff because some health industry puppet mandated it.

Who'd want to be a doctor if they worked for peanuts?
I might end up with a doctor from Singapore who barely speaks English and got his job on Affirmative Action.
Who'd want to be a doctor if they worked for peanuts?

Doctors get paid extremely well, even in countries with a single-payer healthcare system.

People who are in it for a genuine desire to help people, not just trying to get rich. Plenty of people become police officers, firefighters, and teachers because they have a desire to do good in the world, even if it means crappy pay.
And doctors who work in countries with socialized healthcare are hardly in poverty.
:foxnews: See, I told you bunch to vote for Mccain then, this would not have happened. More at 9. In the meantime, here's ten reasons your child is a terrorist. :foxnews:
Sounds to me like he's saying it's OK because it's capitalism
Nope. None of that. Just saying why I think the uninsured are getting worse health care.
I've read the thread title about 50 times over the past few days perfectly. But tonight I read it as, "Uninsured ER patient dies twice," which didn't seem too shocking to me, considering some people die multiple times and get revived over and over again.
It's half past two in the morning. I suppose I'm tired.
natural selection has absolutely nothing to do with this
Social Darwinism, well if you believe in it, makes natural selection completely relevant to it.

A social opinion off a theory doesn't mean the original theory was formed to make that.

Social Darwinism was not a component of the theory of evolution, and was vehemently opposed by Charles Darwin during his lifetime.

Social Darwinism is the excuse invoked by cruel, greedy people to claim they're somehow more deserving of money and status than the people they fuck over.

people are libertarians for different reasons, not only because they're rich and don't want the government taxing them

or they're just dumb and think the free market knows all or whatever
objectivism is the best fuck poor uninsured people.
