The thing is they really don't need to identify the dead bodies, it really serves NO purpose. Its not like you have families back in the netherlands/malaysia wondering what happened to their loved ones.
Fuck you.
There's such a thing as families seeking closure, and getting the bodies of their loved ones back to them is part of that process.
Seek help.
Then I don't blame them
I wonder, if a suitcase landed on someone's property (either from some kind of accident [ie door opening] or from an incident like this) how many people would have a look through it and take anything valuable from it.
The black box won't prove that the rebels were the ones that shot the plane down.
IMO the only thing that the black box could do is prove it was shot down. I am guessing that as soon as a plane is hit all the sensors are just going to stop reporting anything to the black box.
These Rebels are fucking scum they deserve whatever they get, whether that is being shot or rotting away in jail.
War is going on and all the spoiled kids are going " DEI BE STEELING WALLITS AND PHONS!!!!" I think the possessions of the dead are one of the last things on the list you should actually be looking at and voicing your opinion about when you're looking at Ukraine.
The point is that people are looting and messing with the wreckage site, instead of the area being cordoned off by official investigators, you dingus.
It's not stealing if they've previously said 'yes you can take my organs when I die'.
The post that was being referred to said mandatory organ donation.
Agreed. The thing is they really don't need to identify the dead bodies, it really serves NO purpose. Its not like you have families back in the netherlands/malaysia wondering what happened to their loved ones. Everybody on board died. If you want to identify the bodies pull up the records for who was on the plane and you can safely assume they are dead, start sending the grief letters.
Really the only thing you get from IDing bodies is being able to put them in their own grave, but I somehow don't think that the dead passengers particularly care where they are buried. If the family wants to mourn at a grave site they can set up their own memorial in their home country, no real need for the dead to actually be there.

and you know, dental records are a thing too.
Are you fucking serious
I recommend have a look on the VICE dispatch then did on the crash side. Warning very NSFW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Px2rfWBW4wg
helping feed a living family > identifying a dead body
i dont understand facepunch lol on one hand mandatory organ donation is overwhelmingly popular on this site because "You're dead, you dont need it anyway" yet on the other hand here people are bitching about impoverished people taking money off of dead people like it's such a fucking desecration that a poor person, poor enough to loot bodies, takes something that a body is absolutely not going to need ever again
Because rebels with military equipment worth thousands need a dead person's travel savings.

How insensitive can you be.
Thought i'd post this:
OSCE spoken about rumors regarding limited access to crash site.

Also, mentioned in link refrigirator trains might move up to either Harkov or Donetsk, rebels have negotiated means to tranport bodies with ukranian military, soo atleast some sence of cooperation finally reached.
im waiting for someone to actually address it
epic zinger tho man
Its totally different- so its kinda hard to compare it, but ill have a go.
organs of the deceased that aren't donated either rot away or get destroyed when a body is cremated- (hence the strong sentiment that they should be used to save lives as they are no longer of any other use).
Personal belongings of the dead however, do not decompose, and are usually passed on to the family of the deceased- (therefore taking them is still stealing from the next of kin.)
On topic, This sounds really scummy and ghoulish, but i can understand that the situation some of these people are in is fairly dire and watching your family starve will change your perspective on morality.

As bazsil said
helping feed a living family > identifying a dead body
Helping keep someone who is still alive living trumps any sorrow the grieving family is going through. People shouldn't starve if they don't have to just so you can feel a little bit better about the loss of a loved one. If that means a family loses a few hundred dollars stolen from a dead person's wallet or some type of heirloom, then so be it. Receiving a dead body isn't the only way to get closure you know.
Not to mention that the wallets and heirlooms (most of which were separated from the bodies in the explosion I'd imagine) aren't the only way to identify the bodies since we have things like dental records and all. We know every single person on that plane and what countries they came from, cross check the dead people's teeth with dental records in those countries and you can still identify a large portion of them. No dental records? See if you can get any viable DNA from the bodies and do the same process. Wallets and heirlooms are not the only ways to identify bodies.

Pretty much. I can understand that it's morally wrong to steal from the dead, but it's not realistically wrong. People living in the area need anything they can get just to live.
I can't fault anyone for doing this. The situation is already a tragedy on top of a tragedy.
Well, one of my professors did say that Malaysia liked to live to slow life over the fast one. Guess that applies to work and international incidents too.
Actually, I'm not sure if Malaysia has the legal standing to go in there and get the bodies. I guess it's up to Ukraine or some mediating group or some shit then.
You and your professor should read this then http://www.citizens-international.org/ci2012/?p=2335

I wish they could prosecute someone for this. Would this fall under war crime territory?
So if some underground sawbones showed up and started harvesting organs from the corpses and selling them on the black market, you would be 100% okay with that?
no because these situations typically involve the body being destroyed or otherwise not seen again (and if they were returned they'd likely be in a bad shape due to the surgeon being in it for profit rather than charity) while taking money literally involves just rifling through pockets
it's a dumb comparison but i guess thats intended so you could show me how totally insensitive and wrong i am by implying taking money off bodies = stealing bodies and destroying them in return for thousands of dollars' profit for someone who likely doesn't need it

zing!!!
all this money is going towards the rebels right? and the rebels purchased this equipment out of pocket, right??
the answer to both is no, btw
