I feel like I am the only one who doesn't understand MOBAs at all; I tried playing DotA 2 but couldn't get into it. I was watching the finals yesterday but had no idea what was going on, it just looked like any other match.
that's because not everyone can get into Mobas and considering the skill ceiling required for Dota 2, new players keep their distance from it there's also the community which isn't merciful most of the time

I battled with LoL for a good 2-3 years and eventually gave up as it became less and less entertaining. I can't even get into Dota 2 because people are dicks about even slight fuckups and it's pretty different than LoL. More pain than its worth. When you understand it, it's pretty fun to watch as a spectator sport, though.

If you guys think Dota 2/LoL have a shitty community, you should try HoN...
This International shit has me trying so hard because normally i'm a very meh Dota player. I try to do really well each match but I can't invest enough of myself in it to reeeally climb up ladders you know? Also that million and change is just the prize money, you know more sponsors and shit are going to FLOCK to them for every tournament now, they're probably like twice as valuable than they. I'm calling it now next game they're wearing Gunnars and a double triple overdose of alienware and razer shit. Assuming they're not cocks with their money they'll be pretty straight for a looong time.
After watching the internationals it's safe to say Dota 2 has the best community <3

Thanks for supporting, but na'vi will probably not continue existing like this" Hvost is probably leaving because of this :v:
The match so intense i was dripping a pool sweat. No matter how many times my mom says "Whats the point of watching nerd s play vedio games".She will never understand what happend that very moment
The korean commentators are amazing.
That was fucking brilliant.
How'd funn1k work out for you na'vi? Bet you wish you had light now :v:
lmao its just nerdy video games tho
It's amazing what rich people spend money on. There's someone out there with a PhD from Harvard living on the streets because he can't get a job while some teenagers press buttons all day and get rich.
It's amazing what rich people spend money on. There's someone out there with a PhD from Harvard living on the streets because he can't get a job while some teenagers press buttons all day and get rich.
Well first, the prize pool is sponsored first by a company that's doing investing in it to *gasp* make money, while the rest of the prize pool was sponsored by people buying basically souvenirs for $10 and part of that going to the prize pool. I don't even know what "rich people" are involved here. No "rich people" are throwing money at this thing, it's just one company doing what they need to do to make a successful game and hundreds of thousands of fans supporting it. Also, these "teenagers" are mostly 20-30 and have spent hundreds to thousands of hours practicing a game that they love to get so good as a team that they can compete for large prizes like this. Also, they love the game, because the game is an incredible game. Oh, and replace "teenagers pressing buttons" with "guys kicking balls around" or "people hitting balls to people with a wooden stick" and they're getting millions because it's culturally considered "sport" and not a "game" so I guess the guy with a PhD from Harvard is living on the streets because of them, too. Literally every word in your post is so crafted to be perfectly wrong that you must be one of the most exceptional trolls I've ever witnessed.
No you can't, that 1.4 million is split up among five people, and this is the only Dota tournament that pays that much, the rest only pay anywhere between 2.5-40k and again it's split up among five people, also you only get that much if you win the losers get paid far less, it's nowhere near as much as an engineer or doctor makes.
yes you can.. there are certain players who have made anywhere from 200-400 thousand in a single year competing in various tournaments mind you maybe not as much as a doctor but certainly a lot of professional careers. And yes I know that number isn't consistent but they still make a ridiculous amount
but "guys kicking balls around" and "people hitting balls to people with a wooden stick" actually involves practice and work too, but it also involves actual physical contact and work instead of pressing buttons all day
epic troll m8 le upvote oh shit im out of upvotes have a dumb instead
but "guys kicking balls around" and "people hitting balls to people with a wooden stick" actually involves practice and work too, but it also involves actual physical contact and work instead of pressing buttons all day
oh yeah so only sports with physical contact and exercise are the only ones worth having a prize pool? better tell those dumb professional billiards, poker, and other non-physical sports to fuck off because they clearly don't have enough skill to warrant million-dollar tournaments. They just hit balls and throw cards around all day fuck them right? Totally doesn't involve any sort of admirable skill or effort. Money should go to college people and football players only. you have no idea how dumb you sound
except you have to think and something is actually done in those sports. you're actually up, physically hitting the balls and throwing cards. this is just clicking and pressing a button.
why don't you go and click and press buttons to go and win 1.4 million dollars next year at the international 2014 then?
why don't you go and click and press buttons to go and win 1.4 million dollars next year at the international 2014 then?
i'd rather grab a deck of cards and win triple that in poker or some shit
except you have to think and something is actually done in those sports. you're actually up, physically hitting the balls and throwing cards. this is just clicking and pressing a button.
Dota requires a lot of thought and the games are very intensive and energy consuming.
They don't even begin to deserve even half of that money. My parents worked extremely hard physical labor getting paid next to nothing all their lives and still can barely afford anything, some nerds play a computer game and are set for life. Shit like this just REALLY gets to me for some reason
except you have to think and something is actually done in those sports.
What the fuck does that even mean? So nobody is thinking in Dota 2 and somehow other sports have stuff "getting done"??????

Shit like this just REALLY gets to me for some reason
Hard labour requires next to no training/skills to be done, excelling at Dota/any other Moba requires lots and lots of practice.
maybe because instead of working yourself you're sitting here posting and crying on a forum.
I'm in university, working my ass off, probably getting a lifetime worth of student loans. Do you realize these people literally get paid for playing a game, which the point of is to have fun?
I didn't realize people still thought like this in 2013. Especially kids on a gaming forum haha. I think calling it an eSport is kind of silly cause it sounds like it's TRYING to be annoying. But players are definitely athletes. It takes A LOT of intelligence to play a game like Dota. It takes skill, practice and effort as well. Saying they don't deserve it or that they're a bunch of nerds clicking buttons is embarrassing. I guess basketball is just a bunch of tall dudes tossing around a ball. Football is guys pushing each other while other guys play catch. Baseball doesn't take skill, you're just swinging wood at something flying towards you.
except you have to think and something is actually done in those sports. you're actually up, physically hitting the balls and throwing cards. this is just clicking and pressing a button.
Well by that logic, no one whose work doesn't involve physical work should ever get paid.
