They don't even begin to deserve even half of that money. My parents worked extremely hard physical labor getting paid next to nothing all their lives and still can barely afford anything, some nerds play a computer game and are set for life. Shit like this just REALLY gets to me for some reason
It's no different then a football player or actor makes inflated salaries. If anything those are worse, because atleast the prize pool was determine by players wanting to buy compendiums and contribute.
except you have to think and something is actually done in those sports. you're actually up, physically hitting the balls and throwing cards. this is just clicking and pressing a button.
Btw taking part in these esports probably requires more mental processing and thinking than you will do in your entire life.
I'm in university, working my ass off, probably getting a lifetime worth of student loans. Do you realize these people literally get paid for playing a game, which the point of is to have fun?
Only a very small percentage of Dota 2 players are making anything worth a livable salary. Calm down.
I'm in university, working my ass off, probably getting a lifetime worth of student loans. Do you realize these people literally get paid for playing a game, which the point of is to have fun?
They play it better than anyone else, they have invested seriously massive amounts of time into it. Congrats, you're in uni, I'm going this year too but don't belittle these people just because you think it's "lel just press som botans and $$$"

Do you realize these people literally get paid for playing a game, which the point of is to have fun?
Do you realize actors are getting paid to pretend? Singers are getting paid to sing? etc. You can use this shitty kind of logic for anything. The point of life is to have fun dude. If you can get paid doing it, then why not? You sound jealous. I know for a FACT if you could make that much money playing video games, you probably wouldn't hesitate. Unless you're just not a fan of video games.

Something like DOTA 2 requires a lot of thinking and tactical thinking. Thinking that if something doesn't require hard physical labor, it shouldn't be worth money is like some 18th century type shit.
I didn't realize people still thought like this in 2013. Especially kids on a gaming forum haha. I think calling it an eSport is kind of silly cause it sounds like it's TRYING to be annoying. But players are definitely athletes. It takes A LOT of intelligence to play a game like Dota. It takes skill, practice and effort as well. Saying they don't deserve it or that they're a bunch of nerds clicking buttons is embarrassing. I guess basketball is just a bunch of tall dudes tossing around a ball. Football is guys pushing each other while other guys play catch. Baseball doesn't take skill, you're just swinging wood at something flying towards you.
In most major league sports you have to make huge sacrifices and your life pretty much revolves around it and there's no days off. With video games as long as you play it enough you can eventually know it inside out, and how to win in every situation while real sports are much more unpredictable and require a lot more training and sacrifice

No, those kind of people's lifes usually revolve around playing that game. If anyone who just played it enough could get that good, these people wouldn't be winning that much money.

Especially not dota 2 where the amount of variables is too much to list in one lifetime. Are you seriously saying that esports are not unpredictable? Go watch the finals of this. Truth be told there's a lot more going on than in soccer for example.
this is just clicking and pressing a button.
I'm sorry, I can't accept that somebody can be that close minded and stupid. Even on the internet. Can you even play dota? It's infamous for being one of the hardest to grasp and most punishing games on the current market.
In most major league sports you have to make huge sacrifices and your life pretty much revolves around it and there's no days off. That their lives don't revolve around it and that they don't have days off? You realize that these are PRO players right? Not random kids off the street playing some random game. They play this game literally every single day. And I'd be willing to bet that after they wake up, they don't turn their computer off until it's time to sleep. Which is probably more time than some basketball or football players put into practice. And have you ever played Dota 2? The game isn't predictable at all. There's no way you could possibly know it 100% inside and out. There's no way you could "know how to win every situation." There's FAR too many match ups/skill variations to EVER prepare you for that. If it was that easy, there wouldn't be a winner. Because they could just infinitely out-predict each other! I think you fail to realize that this isn't some single player game they all won and made money off of. It was head vs head. A true display of tactical thinking, skill and practice.
I'm gonna leave these thread before I get banned for disagreeing with a mod, but I will forever disrespect all of these highly paid neckbeards no matter what. They are not real men and don't know what work is.
They play this game literally every single day. And I'd be willing to bet that after they wake up, they don't turn their computer off until it's time to sleep.
Except for Chuan, that guy barely plays apparently which is really odd.
Except for Chuan, that guy barely plays apparently which is really odd.
I actually don't follow Dota 2's competitive scene. I play for fun but it's hard to keep up with :v: But I do follow League's scene and I'd imagine that that Dota 2 players are the same. When they're not in tournies, they're streaming themselves playing all day.

Shit like this just REALLY gets to me for some reason
What about soccer, what about movie actors which is the easiest job in the book. If valve, a company of 200 or so developers working on a game like dota2 was that generous to give away that much money its their problem. And btw using ad revenue from all the views its possible to get that money back. Yes there are some people who get lucky and get money easily there's 6 billion people on this earth and most 3rd world countries people don't get a home, you should be happy with what you have. v Like I said there's 6 BILLION people, how do you know rich people don't donate, and how do you know that charity money goes to africa or where ever what if the company takes half of that sum.
also, 1.4 million went to some neckbeards who can play a game really well, while only 3,000 dollars went to one neuroscience contest. You can go and help out humanity's standard of living and get 3,000 dollars or go out and click a button and win a million dollars. That's bullshit.

Someone sounds extremely jealous that people found away to make money doing something they live and are skilled at
You literally have no idea about anything ever anywhere
these people literally don't have a life
Mind you most teams don't make nearly as much as Alliance just did, and no team has won the International more than once.
League players get a shit ton from sponsors and streaming AFAIK
these people literally don't have a life
says the neckbeard complaining on a forum
these people literally don't have a life
These people are socially successful. They have friends rooting for them back home who don't know the first thing about dota 2. They had friends come over to the audience in the actual event. Heck many of them have girlfriends. Well, talking about euro players, I don't know about them asians. These people are not neckbeards with no life.
these people literally don't have a life
So? With that kind of avatar does it make me think you have a life? I find the text you wrote pointless anyhow.
