I don't really see everyones problem with this.

No I don't. I'm both vegetarian and faux leather is a perfect substitute. Also you can easily get fur coats with replicated fur.
It's disgusting and all, but the last picture really made me laugh

fake leather doesn't stay as supple in the cold though (fake fur doesn't seem as warm either)
when it gets to -30 you're kind of stuck using coats with animal products, be it leather, fur, or down, because synthetic ones just don't work that great

I can't really agree from personal experience, you can definitely avoid coats and leather when it comes to wearing warm clothing.
