No, the schengen area allows legal immigrants to settle anywhere in the schengen area.
I didn't say settle legally, it's why they're called Illegal Immigrants, the open borders (due to the Schengen Agreement) within Europe allow those who aren't EU citizens to go where they please, therefore facilitating illegal immigration.

No, it allows EU citizens to go where they please.

There are no border controls. Anyone can go where they please.
This is what the borders look like:

No border controls within the EU itself. You have to get into one of the Schengen countries legally to take advantage with the open borders.

Look at the Mediterranean sea, it's pretty hard to police every single inch of it. Most illegal immigrants come via night crossings and end up in Italy, the Adriatic or Spain, they hide in freight trucks, bribe the Eastern European borders, or get in via Malta.

It's pretty hard to police every inch of everywhere.
Besides, the Schengen Area has more than enough benefits that getting rid of it due to the irremovable bogey man of illegal immigrants would be stupid as shit.

I never advocated getting rid of it, I merely stated that it facilitates illegal immigration.

We already have the tea party, don't give us the BNP too!
It's something for politicians talk about when they aren't actually doing anything credible.
How do they get to France, Holland and Belgium in the first place?
That is completely irrelevant, even if the Schengen agreement didn't exist there would be illegal immigrants trying to enter the UK using surrounding countries as a intermediary. Whats to say that without the Schgengen agreement that France, Belgium or the Netherlands would be in a position to fully protect their borders?
You cannot blame the EU for the fact that we as a country cannot protect its borders. Which is hilarious as we are an island.

But they aren't doing it legally, if they have entered the EU illegally then that is a problem with the country that let them in. Not the EU.

Eh, UK is more American than French. Or German. Or Spanish. Or Czechoslovakian.

But if the UK wants to do something, then people fuss about "racism" and "xenophobia". It's a lose-lose situation.

It is xenophobia.
Every worthwhile Political Science program includes a course, or a part of a course that goes over how amazing the EU is for its members and global society. The world has three major powers; the U.S., the E.U. and, to a somewhat lesser degree, China. We need the E.U. strong, balance of power, avoidance of hegemony, healthier worldwide culture etc etc
Come on Britain, if not for yourselves, then perhaps for the world at large?

And stop complaining about Poland, we have to deal with the deep south. P.S. deep down, we love the hell out of Canada. I don't know how that's related, but just look at our trade relations, we're like secret best friends.
One of the few countires that I can thin of that benefit from not being in the European Union is Norway, and those guys are loaded with oil so they manage.

They're full EFTA members and as such have to abide by EU single market trade laws, they're also part of the schengen area so have to abide by those laws, they're also part of a lot of EU initiatives and programs but they lack voting power and don't use the EURO.
Doesn't sound very beneficial to me, having to abide by laws you have no voting power over.
When someone says 'European' I immediately think of mainland Europe, I wouldn't call myself European, not because of anything to do with the EU or that malarkey but just because for some weird reason it doesn't feel right. European to me, means French or Russian or something, whereas I'm just British.
In my eyes anyway.
Interestingly we usually consider you European and culturally much closer than let's say americans.

Norway is more or less in the EU in all but name.

When you look at things like law and education they're a lot more similar tothe US than Europe.

Sure the legal systemis one aspect (and luisiana would argue) but other than that. Hell even anglikanism is fairly close to catholicism and a lot of other aspects translate well.

Have you ever taken it into consideration that the US is similar to the UK and not the other way round? That, and the Parliamentary system was created by the UK, and spread throughout Europe and the rest of the world.

I'm fairly sure the word 'similar' has no directional connotations. I very well know US and UK similarities originated in the UK and not the US.
I dont know what the fuck europe or asia mean or where they start or begin, but Britain is sure as hell european in my book.
I've been to the european parliment and am deeply involved in danish politics. The danish members who got voted down there have nearly all been "turned" to be super positive for any change that comes from it.
It's gotten so big that several key figures in danish parliment has come out and said that if the current path continues, where the federalists groups continue to gain more and more tracktion, it would be unforseeable for Denmark to continue to stay in the union.

Has any of this happened in the past? I keep hearing stories about catalonia going independent, scotland going independent, french extremists gaining majority and so on.
And whilst all this internal degradation is happening the EU wants to integrate Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia aswell.
What's the catch?
Goddamn this country is full of idiots.
I've always considered myself European, I believe it's a word with positive connotations and I don't think the majority of the UK public actually truly knows the benefits of EU membership. They just regurgitate anything the daily mail says without any evidence to back it up.

I just like that we have all these countries united given our hundreds of years of bloody conflict, it feels as if a member, particularly a powerful one such as us leaves it would start to become undone, especially in this ever globalising world
I take pride that I'm European :(

Stop assuming that those of us with some reservations regarding the EU are shit eating imbeciles who spend too much time reading the Daily fucking Heil, it gets really bloody old, really bloody fast. It speaks for your ignorance, not mine, that you think this.
The EU is not universally a good thing. It is a horrendously corrupt organisation which appoints itself presidents, attempts to interfere in our internal affairs, tries unendingly to combine all of Europe into a god awful single currency that doesn't work and is in the process of striving to make a European Super State.
I do not want these things.
That said - I am aware the EU also offers significant benefits to being a member. I am not some ignorant twat who believes every hate filled, bullshit, badly sourced article that comes from that fucking rag of a paper.
Think before you throw us all under the bus of your idiotic sweeping generalisations.
For the record, I consider myself British, then English, then European a long way down. The continent is just too different to Britain for me to feel any affinity toward it.
