come kick my teeth in, jokes on you BECAUSE THEY'RE FALLING OUT ALREADY
British teeth joke, it was inevitable!
Almost as inevitable as the sun setting on the British empire!
You cried so we just gave it to you.
Thats not exactly what happened.
You cried so we just gave it to you. After all it's what you do with your land, not how much of it you have
And then you lost Ireland, Africa, India, Hong Kong, Canada, and so on.
Gave it to us? I don't think having a war over it constitutes "Giving."
We gave up because of you all being cry babies.
And then you lost Ireland, Africa, India, Hong Kong, Canada, and so on.
Technically we didn't lose Ireland. We still have the north of it :v: We didn't lose the rest either, we just have a commonwealth where everyone shares the same monarchy.
They're just mad because they lost all their land.
we only gave it to you because you said you'd cry if we didn't
we only gave it to you because you said you'd cry if we didn't
Now this guy is on the same wavelength.
Reminds me of what I did in Empire: Total War a few days ago...
Do we also get the debt if we invade?
Maybe nice way to get around that, let the USA get invaded, no more debt because there is no more USA!!
:v:
We will call it USA......2
I like to call USA Europe 2.0 anyway, regardless of invasion.
come and get us, limeys
my musket is prepared
Hey Britain you can have your colonies back as long as we get your universal healthcare and those tall bearskin hats.
At least Australia was able to gain independence legally.
mainly because there is nothing of worth here.

I wonder if the USA would fare better under british rule.
You'd have healthcare and shit most likely, and halfway decent politics.

The concept of legal grounds for secession is completely idiotic.
They are seceding because THEY DON'T AGREE WITH YOU.
Generic "discussion-involving-american-independence-turning-into-a-shitfest" thread. For a start, can Americans stop using the term "we" so often in reference to Americans over the years (i.e. during independence, world war), it's as if you're trying to take responsibility for your country's achievements. I don't say "Yeah, we were awesome with that empire", instead saying "they". And on top of that, England don't want your country back. You can keep it.

Usually it means in general.
Sorry you all need to start paying us taxes, feel free to forward mine to my paypal.
That's gonna be a hell of a lot of back taxes they owe.
wow brits get over it
Everyone who rated you dumb is a Brit.
No seriously, I checked them all. OK, one was a Canuck. But he's part of the evil Commonwealth, so same thing.
I'd hate to know how much we'd owe for taxes after 230 years.
Trillions of dollars, oh wait a minute that sounds familiar.
Trillions of dollars, oh wait a minute that sounds familiar.
more like quadrillion
I'd like to point out that this appears to be some sort of hypothetical debate, less about actually discrediting the Declaration of Independence and more about simply using it as some sort of example target for the British barristers to examine critically, and for the American lawyers to defend in a modern context. The barristers look like they're playing Devil's advocate, mostly because, historically speaking, they were the only people who would have taken a stand against it in 1776. It's not like they still think that.
Anyone who thought that this was some sort of genuine political gesture on behalf of the British are seriously mistaken, as well as probably unable to consider things they read in context. Sensationalism indeed.
Art Thou Furious?
Honestly, if I remember history class right the colonies weren't taxed nearly as heavily as the mother country so I don't know why we even bothered, it's not like we the people have more say about how taxes are levied with our own government in charge.
The big issue was we were second class citizens and had little representation in their government.
I seriously doubt we started a revolution over taxes on things like our molasses (rum).
From tea, imperialism and old culture to guns, fastfood and self righteousness.
Commonwealth and State are pretty much synonymous, there's only minor differences.
My mom's birth certificate says she was born in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and when she moved to Michigan, the state actually thought she had a false birth certificate.

In all seriousness it's kind of silly to critically think about the legality of the Declaration of Independence; because well, it was obviously illegal, the founding fathers essentially signed their own death warrant for high treason.
What the fuck, of course that any successful struggle against a regime is unlawful in the eyes of that regime. But that didn't stop anybody. Ever. All Revolutions are illegal.
The legitimacy of new regimes comes not from what members of the old regime think. It's always a struggle between two parties who both believe what they're doing is lawful. Then the winner is right and the loser is wrong.
It would be damned funny if Obama suddenly decided to give the power to the british. I mean, imagine the reactions.
