Did anyone here even read the article, it was a competition event between legal teams from each country.
Get over it, no one is trying to reclaim lost land.
Honestly, if I remember history class right the colonies weren't taxed nearly as heavily as the mother country so I don't know why we even bothered, it's not like we the people have more say about how taxes are levied with our own government in charge.
Correct, however the way the taxes were implemented and the way that the American economy was based around shipping, it affected us much more.
I wouldn't mind living under the crown. Then we could have the metric system, socialized medicine, drinking ages that aren't arbitrarily retarded, gay marriage, and nice police.
Of course it wasn't legal, nor did it have any legal backing. It was an entirely symbolic gesture, any [US] history class would tell you this.
God damn I hate misleading titles...
wow brits get over it
Not as if we're butthurt, we just went and built the largest empire ever instead.
come and get us, limeys
my musket is prepared
the land of Kentucky fears none. Cause we will come out of the trees and ambush you. Who cares about being decent. Also, Kentucky long rifle.
They're just mad because they lost to a bunch of farmers and French men :v:
The American revolution created what was at the time, the only nation where one man was better than another because of his parents. It created the only nation that was truly democratic, with no supreme ruler. Finally, It created a nation where the government had laws to abide by, and was under the power of the people. It was noble to declare independence.
Anyway, now that my patriotic rant is over: I think that it is utterly stupid to even debate this. There were no real applicable laws between nations at that time, and honestly, there aren't any now. Plus, I don't even care if it was legal or not.

Gay French men, too.
What exactly do they hope to accomplish by discussing this? Do they expect to get the east coast back or something? Also it's ironic they used the idea of Texas seceding as an example considering I'd say it's likely to happen.

The same thing 99% of random competitions like this hope to accomplish; they take an interesting and well known topic and discuss it in modern context to break it down and see how it would play out today.
No one is under the delusion that it's going to amount to anything, it's just an exercise.
Don't worry, dad I'll buy us some Mcdonalds that we can survive off of.
