Re/code reports Chairman Tom Wheeler confirmed they will be on the table at an agency meeting May 15th. While that report indicates the rules will be the same, but justified under a different part of the law, the Wall Street Journal's sources say that new rules will be proposed tomorrow, with at least one notable change. According to the rumor, the new net neutrality rules will still bar ISPs from blocking or discriminating against certain sources over the last mile, but will allow them to sell special access to others. It sounds like the type of "managed connection" that Comcast, for example, is using to distribute video on-demand to its Xbox 360 app. This would still leave network peering agreements like the one reached by Netflix and Comcast unaffected, but it appears ISPs could charge services for access to a clear pipeline to customer's homes. The proposed rules would leave such changes up to the FCC to determine if they were "commercially reasonable" for all sides on a case-by-case basis.
What the hell are they even thinking lately >:( Source(s): http://www.engadget.com/2014/04/23/wsj-fcc-net-neutrality/?ncid=rss_truncated&utm_campaign=socialflow&utm_source=fb&utm_medium=fb http://recode.net/2014/04/23/fcc-to-release-draft-net-neutrality-rules-in-may/ http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702304518704579519963416350296
The fact that they even refer to this as "Net Neutrality" really pisses me off.
yey the big corporations won and got their net-neutrality regulations passed! now we're screwed i hate how time-warner advertises internet 33x faster than DSL! why the fuck is DSL even allowed to be a base metric of internet service when it was dated over a decade ago

It's like the fun never ends.
Don't you guys have any consumer laws or something that forbids this?
Don't you guys have any pconsumer laws or something that forbids this?
Yes. They just don't matter because telecommunications companies have so much sway over policy makers and the tears of their customers to fuel their expansions.
wow thanks fcc why the fuck did you scrap your previous shit just to pull this shit assdffdv it's literally like they went "no our current rules are too hard on isps lets make it even easier for them" ffffff
Land of the free (unless it's the internet).
Don't you guys have any consumer laws or something that forbids this?
consumer....rights? I haven't heard of that since Ralph Nader's raiders
Land of the free (unless it's the internet).
This is soooooooooooo tiring to hear in any form
It's not Net Neutrality if it's not neutral, FCC.
Don't you guys have any consumer laws or something that forbids this?
but those laws only cover telecom companies, comcast by providing only internet, cable, and bundled telephone service is merely a cable company not a telecom [editline]23rd April 2014[/editline]
wow thanks fcc why the fuck did you scrap your previous shit just to pull this shit assdffdv it's literally like they went "no our current rules are too hard on isps lets make it even easier for them" ffffff
no the judge couldn't see a situation where the ISPs needed to be covered by net-neutrality...he couldn't see because of the fat stacks of cash on his bench blocking his view
Don't you guys have any consumer laws or something that forbids this?
We do but there's a certain point where Money > Law and these huge ISP's have passed that threshold. They're so big some of their former employees are now the policy makers that are supposed to regulate them. It's far enough that the FCC isn't making those laws for us, the FCC is making them for the cable companies.
A case could probably be made in the united states regarding the first amendment I think.
First amendment is related to the government. Businesses aren't expected to follow it, allowing bullshit like this to happen. It's like if water companies decided to charge you by volume used for sending water to your house, then also charge preferentially depending on if it comes out of a tap, shower or bath. It's insane.
what are companies gonna fucking do when everyone is poor (we already are) and the world is in ruins? who are they gonna fuck for money then? at what point does everything get so fucking expensive that no one wants to buy anything except the essentials? at what point will the essentials be ridiculously overpriced? Then what the fuck happens?

If any of you are surprised by this, you probably aren't aware that the Obama Administration appointed a former cable lobbyist to head the FCC. Read that again and let it sink in.
I really don't get why content-providers take this shit; Wouldn't it just affect the ISP more than for example Netflix when every user of that ISP gets a "Sorry! Netflix didn't pay us this month so you're not getting into this site."?
but those laws only cover telecom companies, comcast by providing only internet, cable, and bundled telephone service is merely a cable company not a telecom
That kind of sounds exactly like a telecom company.
That kind of sounds exactly like a telecom company.
but they're not : / ya the FCC has been trying to force them under those rules for like 5 years now
I wonder if the ISPs are giving money to the FCC under the table HMMM
I wonder if the ISPs are giving money to the FCC under the table HMMM
Everyone in any position of influence at the FCC knows they have a job waiting for them at the telecoms as soon as they leave that pays four times their FCC salary. There is an understanding that regulators who are hostile to the businesses they regulate will not be receiving a lucrative job offer.

I had a thread on it http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1366720&highlight=
Just move on up to Canada. Shit's still good here for a little while longer. And as much as I hate to say it, things started going downhill for the American middle class since the early seventies, and it's only going to get worse. The USA may well be a sinking ship, and y'all better learn to start swimming if you don't want to find yourselves trying to breathe around corporate shaft in a few years. Not that I think even my beloved North will remain apart from that deep level of corruption for long. It's inevitable. But it hasn't happened yet, and it'll take decades to take hold.
I hope charter doesnt put youtube and twitch, ect on slow pipes for us.

The FCC is terrible and should have control over nothing.
Fucking FCC selling us out to corporations to something that wasn't really a thing until 3-4 years ago.
Let's hope this remains as a proposition.
Who wants to bet they'll propose this outrageous new ruling, and then proceed to 'negotiate' to get the deal they really wanted?
