But..?
Certain rights cannot be stripped of you no matter what?
The fact that the justice system isn't infallible should be reason enough to not have the death penalty.
well then, since it financially benefits us to keep them alive we should let them live in the worst livable conditions possible
I think we should tell Death Row inmates that they're getting executed, but not tell them when. They'd wake up every morning freaking out, wondering if today would be their last.
Certain rights cannot be stripped of you no matter what?
Well we deprive them if liberty and the pursuit of happiness, why not go for a nice round three?
bout time
Ten people murdered for no reason at all, and you're angry at him being executed?
No. It's the fact that once you're dead, that's pretty much it. It's not you who suffers, it's your family.
We should use people like him who are about to be executed or are on death row for blood sports. Or if you're not an Unreal Tournament fan they should have their bodies donated to scientific research.
We should go back to enslaving other races and cultures, humans have been doing it for 1000 of years so it can't be wrong.
Thanks for completely missing my point.
It sucks how primitive execution is, and that the United States is still using it. It does prevent tax dollars going to these people in prison systems, but execution just seems so fucking medieval.
I miss exile.
Well we deprive them if liberty and the pursuit of happiness, why not go for a nice round three?
I wouldn't say we deprive them of these rights so much as we limit them in order to accomplish all that stuff in the Preamble.

Exile them? To where? What country would still take you? I imagine that would go over well at the border.
"Yeah hi can I come in to this country 'n live here 'n stuff?"
"Criminal record, please."
"Here you go."
"...so... you killed 10 people."
"Yup."
Let's just send all criminals to uninhabited islands and there will be lots of miniature australias all over the planet.
oo, ones enough, thanks :/
oo, ones enough, thanks :/
Then we should send them all to Australia.
yes
Why are people angry about a lunatic that killed ten people, including women and children, being put to death? You'd rather him sit in jail, and cost tax payers millions of dollars? The prison system is already over crowded, we need to put these idiots to death that go on shooting sprees rather than letting them take up space. If you're in prison with no chance of parole, you're kind of dead anyhow. Why not send them to hell where they belong.
I've actually read several studies by high-profile researchers that cite that the cost to execute a person (years of appeals and trials) is three times greater than the average cost to keep a person alive in the prison system for the rest of his or her life.
No, sensibility that we are still technically doing eye for a eye type of punishment. Except its do horrible thing get sent to death row and executed. It is pointless and it would be better to keep them alive until they die. Or at least the ones who know what they have done and feel horrible about it. But the whole execution thing never got through to me in the way everyone else is going at it.
True eye for an eye would be shooting him. Lethal injection is more of an approximation, and in my opinion is almost too nice to be called execution.
My reasoning (this is not taking religion into account) is this: He denied other people their right to their lives. Why should we let him live on when he viciously ripped life from others? He still has many years he could live, costing us to maintain him for however long he lasts. Why not just get rid of him? Think about it: He would not show mercy unto others. Why does a dog of a man like him deserve anything more?

An eye for ten eyes.
I find it pretty fucking reasonable.
He denied other people their right to their lives. Why should we let him live on when he viciously ripped life from others?
Because his right to life doesn't endanger anyone.
He still has many years he could live, costing us to maintain him for however long he lasts. Why not just get rid of him?
Can you measure a life in any amount of money? Also as said in the thread financially it's not any better.
Think about it: He would not show mercy unto others. Why does a dog of a man like him deserve anything more?
Because he's a person, we can't go around killing anyone we hate.
Practically, it doesn't make sense. Morally, it's entirely subjective. Constitutionally, interpretation is where it's at.
Shame it's lethal injection. He doesn't deserve a painless death.
Shame it's lethal injection. He doesn't deserve a painless death.
I'm pretty sure a painful death would be cruel.
I'm pretty sure a painful death would be cruel.
Cruel, but just.
Shame it's lethal injection. He doesn't deserve a painless death.
and the shitstorm returns
Cruel, but just.
Not according to the framers.
I'm pretty sure a painful death would be cruel.
Sure the 13 your old kid he shot didn't have an "uncruel" death.
I think some people in this thread grossly overvalue human life.
He has 90 minutes left of life. Sweet.

That's why I miss it. Maybe we can send criminals to the moon.
I very seriously believe they should bring back the firing squad for this guy. That or, justly, shoot him in the neck and let him bleed to death.
