The pledge has always been viewed as entirely optional at any school I went too. My high school even stopped saying it altogether.

The title makes it sound like he's threatening the school when that isn't even remotely the case. Maybe a bit excessive of a reaction, but the guy sounds more genuinely concerned than unstable and violent.

It's kind of uncanny if I think about it. If we in germany had our students pledge allegiance to our country and seal the deal with some sort of ceremonial hand sigh, people would find it dodgy. but I guess uncanny patriotism is reserved for countries without an extensive history of warmongering. Although 1 out of 5 days we actually play it but no one really listens to it besides being forced to stand up during it. I recall something about 9/11 making all schools do it.
