While reading this suddenly my leg started to hurt, following by my teeth.
fukc
I want one. And a bionic eye.
I just cringed at the thought of EMP's or walking under power lines with one of these things.
Yeah like they happen often
Unless you work with electricity, I don't see you ever getting so close to powerlines that it can disturb electric tech.
Um. If there's a rotor spinning technically wouldn't there be a pulse for each full revolution of said rotor?
Um. If there's a rotor spinning technically wouldn't there be a pulse for each full revolution of said rotor?
Its there, but it is so minute you can say it isn't there.

The title made me think of... Eh, nevermind.
Lets just say reading the title reminded me of something, and thus I reinstalled a certain game.
i have a feeling this could solve heart attacks due to clogged arteries. just push it forward, then pull it back, then forward, then back, until it splits into dozens of tiny pieces.
If the clot splits into dozens of tiny pieces, the clot will make its way to the brain, and cause a stroke or aneurysm. It's one of the greatest issues when removing a clot from a heart.
I have a feeling that at least one person will be buried alive due to no pulse. Actually being buried alive is not as uncommon as most people would like to think...
If this tech takes off, we'll need to put our heads to people's chests more often in medical emergencies, since this kinda negligible-pulse system won't really give off a pulse.
Also, on the subject of artificial hearts being at risk from clots, why not develop friendly bacterium colonies in special alcoves, bacteria engineered to produce a sort of light blood-thinner that prevents heart-clots forming in the first place, or even engineer our white blood cells to identify and consume clots and clogs?
Wait, that's probably a few years off at best.
I have a feeling that at least one person will be buried alive due to no pulse. Actually being buried alive is not as uncommon as most people would like to think...
You know, people still breathe. Unless it was illegal hide body kind of burial.
SO HE IS A ZOMBIE !!! holy shit !
I want one. And a bionic eye.
And a bionic hand. Or at least some fingers.
Does that mean he can't have a boner anymore?
My pulse is augmented.

no
Does that mean he can't have a boner anymore?
No it doesn't mean that
one step closer to being a cyborg
i want all the implants
all of them
Fuck, I cringed hard. I'm going to have nightmares about this.
Isn't a lot of emotion "felt" by a change in heart rate? Imagine being terrified, but not having your heart thudding in your chest.
Cool. If I had one of these and was bring chased by the police or in a life threatening situation, I can just overclock it and run my ass out of there! Would be cool if it was powered by the body's own thermal energy or something, too. Infinite energy.
Isn't a lot of emotion "felt" by a change in heart rate? Imagine being terrified, but not having your heart thudding in your chest.
Actually it's the other way around. Your heart rate increases because you're scared

sell your heart, buy this, profit?
i have a feeling this could solve heart attacks due to clogged arteries. just push it forward, then pull it back, then forward, then back, until it splits into dozens of tiny pieces.
yes dude, cuz people want those dozens of peices everywhere
They might think it's a tattoo that symbolizes something that happened in their life unless you mean for it to be standard for all patients with this device.
I mean as a standard for all patients.
There's medic-alert bracelets, but they can be lost or stolen. You'd have to be a sick fuck to cut out the section of flesh that says they have one of those in, and even in that case, have it in the same location on everyone, and it'll still be thought of first
Actually it's the other way around. Your heart rate increases because you're scared
Yes, but the increased heart rate is part of the physical sensation. It's the reason it's so unpleasant when someone jumps out at you unexpectedly.
So what if you need to run? Does it speed up the process to deliver blood where it needs to go or does it maintain the speed it's at and you just collapse and or die from oxygen starvation?

I'm wondering the same thing actually, the whole thing makes me cringe a little but I suppose it's better than dying.
I doubt they would be that stupid and not implement auto adjusting rate.
http://www.leeroo.com/images/676_terminatortrilogy.jpg one step closer.... one step closer... excuse me while I begin packing my survival kit.
Ugh I would feel weird without a pulse
I'd use this, it seems much more effective.
If I ever need an artificial heart, I'm going to get one of these.
