Today (or I’d say yesterday) a screenshot of email, which was sent to publishers and developers by Valve, was leaked by a Russian developer via Steam Greenlight – a system that uses the community’s help to pick some new games to be released on Steam. It started from the email which was sent to the Steam community-group (unofficial) on the Russian social network, VK. Here is a screenshot that was uploaded to Imgur, of the email from Valve: [T]http://i.imgur.com/9S3njwk.png[/T] I still don’t know why the person who leaked this decided to ignore the red text, where Valve specifically asked people to do not make the date of the Sales public. The guy said that this information is ‘highly restricted’, so, because of the restriction, I decided to ignore the leak as I did not want to be responsible for increasing publicity for the leak any more than it had been already. However 6 to 7 hours later I found the same post on a forum/site related to Valve news, ValveTimes.com (not to be confused with ValveTime.net), who claimed it was an exclusive post. I love how the first thing I see is DON'T MAKE THIS PUBLIC
Now I know when to save up money. :D
Okay? We knew they were coming, and we could have probably guessed when fairly accurately.
I wonder if this leak will make Valve change the date
I wonder if this leak will make Valve change the date
It'd be smart to say that they'll change the dates but not actually do so and fool everybody.
why do I get the feeling the leak is fake and why does leaking this even matter? is it supposed to be somehow unknown that they'll have a steam sale? :v: this is like saying when the sun is going to come up.
If the leak is legit, that was a pretty scumbag move by that Russian dev.
Why can't they leak the games one, at least I know which day has which games on sale.
Why can't they leak the games one, at least I know which day has which games on sale.
because why would they send that out in an email?
-snip nevermind, not relevant because the games that will be put on sale hasn't been leaked-
Always wondered how this stuff works
Well, guess what won't be starting that day then?
They can just as easily change the dates though, kind of defeats the purpose if they do end up doing that.
I hope they thought whoever leaked it was going to and just sent him that email with fake dates to make sure they had the right guy, and then terminate his contract for being a douche. Ruinin' all the fun
I wonder if Valve is cracking down on this in any way.
Always wondered how this stuff works
I always wondered how much control the devs have over sales and that like whether they got to choose when/where/how to have specific sales, or instead allowing valve to do as they please with it is part of the contract
I wonder if this leak will make Valve change the date
i hope not. it starts on my birthday :(
-snip-
bah! Spoiler tag that shit! I was hoping I wouldn't find out! [editline]thanks[/editline] Thank you
I wonder if Valve is cracking down on this in any way.
Judging by the looks of this message, they sent it to more than one person, so I don't think they can pinpoint the exact receiver.
Okay? We knew they were coming, and we could have probably guessed when fairly accurately.
it's not the fact that it reveals the steam sale dates, it's the fact that a dev completely broke the trust between devs and valve by leaking it in the first place.
Now, Valve will have to trust devs less because of it. This is like when GranPC abused the Steam announcement system to say there was an internal patch for HL3, and the update list spelled out penis.
Why would Valve even care, oh no our sale dates have been released now people get to maximise the amount of money that they can give to us and now our profits can go up 1200% rather than 600% what an utter tragedy, this is worse than the HL2 leaks or people complaining about diretide!
I hope they thought whoever leaked it was going to and just sent him that email with fake dates to make sure they had the right guy, and then terminate his contract for being a douche. Ruinin' all the fun
Standard practice for these sorts of things (say alpha patch notes) is to make each end user's message ever so slightly different so they can quickly narrow down the possible leakers.
I never trust any of these russian leaks. Nearly every time, they turn out to be fake.
why do I get the feeling the leak is fake and why does leaking this even matter? is it supposed to be somehow unknown that they'll have a steam sale? :v: this is like saying when the sun is going to come up.
If you know the exact date, then you will hold off and not buy anything till then.
Holy shit. Autumn sale begins the fucking day after my birthday!
If you know the exact date, then you will hold off and not buy anything till then.
To be fair, if I didn't know the date, I could still not buy anything until I see a sale. Since it's the winter sale, you already know it's this month or next month.
Final proof that it's the publishers/devs themselves that choose the sales prices and the allegations towards valve of "cheapening" games is total BS.
