monopolies are a scary thing

Because if someone offers you a billion dollars you don't say no. Unless you're Dropbox.
Garry wouldn't do that to us.
Right Garry?

we have too many assholes on facepunch to taint reddits pure unperverted image.
i wonder if you could apply an anti-trust law to something like this considering it's a free service

I definitely do hope antitrust comes into play. This shit should not fly in any first-world government.
And then everyone moves to azubu
My face right now is just...
I- I have to be alone for a while. No, make that forever.

one billion dollars. that's a lot of fucking money google, do you really think it's worth it?
Google+ integration with Twitch.
Why do people still say this type of shit? Google said they're done integrating Google+ into everything because they realized it's pointless.
I don't really mind as long as Twitch operates as its own thing, kind of like how Instagram operates under Facebook. If google starts forcing changes on Twitch that's when shit will hit the fan
Google+ integration with Twitch.
The whole Google+ shenanigans are so obviously an abuse of monopoly, I find it incredible how people aren't doing the same thing to Google that they did to Microsoft - unless they're falling for the PR.
Is this even confirmed and is there even another source that doesn't take their information from this "Variety" website?
Hitbox is better anyway, I don't really think we're losing anything of value if it gets bought by YT
HitBox's security is hell, I took a look at their chat websocket code and managed to spoof messages under any account name registered. To fix it they didn't add CSRF tokens, oh no, they added IP whitelisting. I wouldn't trust them with my details if they have no clue on how to enforce security tokens.
Why do people still say this type of shit? Google said they're done integrating Google+ into everything because they realized it's pointless.
Because it's a joke; when people hear news of one company buying another, people jump on the bandwagon of moving to a different platform assuming the worst, I.E. Youtube buying Twitch, Facebook buying Oculus Rift.

To be fair, the oculus purchase isn't a bad thing, with how hands off facebook is with purchased companies
I'm not exactly trusting of that source.
what an unnecessary abstract thing to lie about
It is at this time that I must spread the good word of the Archive Team: a distributed preservation of service attack.
Twitch has at least petabytes, if not bordering on exabytes of recordings. Archiving it all would be a MASSIVE feat. AT has archived several terabytes in the past, but at our current participation level, we would be able to get very little.
In the event that Google does something catastrophic to Twitch, I urge you all to join #archiveteam on EFNet. If Twitch does go down for good, we're going to need the bandwidth. At least thousands of users will need to participate in such a project.
I definitely do hope antitrust comes into play. This shit should not fly in any first-world government.
i don't think it will considering it's not really a "commercial good". given that there's no exchange of money going on between the userbase and the and the owners, beyond youtube partnerships, i dunno if they'd really apply at all. it'd be an interesting case to make, but you'd basically have to make a successful case that use of the internet (and specifically streaming visual media) is an essential good along the lines of water or electricity of whatever, which would be super difficult
Tweet from Twitch's PR guy

you should also be aware that reddit has a bunch of people honing 4chan and taking screencaps because other people are too scared to browse it

people care this much about old video game streams?
So they're sell outs, just like every other start-up business.
Is this even confirmed and is there even another source that doesn't take their information from this "Variety" website?
bro do you even know what variety is?
they've been an entertainment newspaper for like 20 years
edit: did i say 20 years, i'm sorry i meant since 1933
Everyone jump on the hate bandwagon!! Because we all know Google is a super villain on an epic quest to make our lives as painful as possible!
Kappa
Google won't fuck up Twitch, they're smarter than that and learned from their G+/Youtube experience
It's not like the entire staff at Twitch is going to be kicked out, still the same guys running it
So they're sell outs, just like every other start-up business.
The term "sellout" is used only by people who are mad that nobody wants to buy anything they have to offer.
bro do you even know what variety is?

Well fake sources(meaning Variety may have gotten the wrong info by someone) do happen sometimes

So rather than saying "No, this isn't true." it's a "No comment."
I could understand if this didn't make a large amount of people apprehensive but come on.
Nice confirmation.
So they're sell outs, just like every other start-up business.
The term sellout means when someone violates their core values for money.
Please, tell me again how this makes Twitch sellouts.
