i wonder if you could apply an anti-trust law to something like this considering it's a free service
[editline]18th May 2014[/editline]
even though, rather
Twitch is not a free service. Remember that you aren't a customer. The people that buy ads are.
Can't be anything but good, IMO. Twitch needs money, maybe then they'll get competent admins and the ability to afford that EXPENSIVE transcoding so they can give all channels a "low" quality option.
How about they fix YouTube first. Almost every channel I click is either "not available" or "this channel has no videos". Can't see my own channel page either.

sounds like a personal problem
So rather than saying "No, this isn't true." it's a "No comment."
I could understand if this didn't make a large amount of people apprehensive but come on.
Nice confirmation.
It's a pretty typical PR response. Microsoft does this all the time. Bethesda did it a few months ago with the fake Fallout 4 ARG.

twitch already pull that shit anyway
lol sorry guys you cant stream this video game you bought a few days before purchase :^) DMCA for you

no shit, you're playing/streaming/recording the game before the street date it's supposed to release.
What is it with Facebook and Google buying every single website on the internet?
Is this even confirmed and is there even another source that doesn't take their information from this "Variety" website?
this "variety" website, roflmao, variety's been the defacto american enterainment news source for over a century
twitch already pull that shit anyway

that's not twitch, that's the company that released the game that decides if you can stream it or not
also, I highly doubt something like Twitch which has people working there highly involved and connected with the community would let themselves get bought like this, especially by Google.

That's different though. If I was a developer I'd be pissed if someone was spoiling shit on a stream before my game's actually out, regardless if they bought it legitimately.
people care this much about old video game streams?
don't you get it, thousands of hours of video game footage with people's webcams on top is IMPORTANT HISTORY WE MUST PRESERVE

"hi guys i've got a billion dollars"
you're telling me that it'd take more than a billion dollars to sell if you were "highly involved and connected with the community"
yeah right
I would legitimately rather that Facebook purchased Twitch. Google has a tendency to ruin everything they purchase.
FUCK.
I use twitch for streaming Kingdom Hearts, and Disney is fucking aggressive as shit with their copyright claims on youtube. No way i'm gonna be able to keep streaming. God dammit I fucking hate you, Google.
Blame the company issuing the DMCA, not Google. Thanks to the wonderful copyright laws of the US (laws Google spends millions to fight) if Google doesn't implement a system akin to their current one to protect copyrights, they open themselves up to lawsuits from copyright holders, AKA some of the richest and most powerful companies in America.
Since when did Google become this big bad guy? They've abandoned Google+ so everyone can calm the fuck down. I've had way less problems with Youtube than I have Twitch
And Twitch themselves aren't exactly a professional company (remember that whole fiasco with their admins?). This should help that.
It is at this time that I must spread the good word of the Archive Team: a distributed preservation of service attack.
Twitch has at least petabytes, if not bordering on exabytes of recordings. Archiving it all would be a MASSIVE feat. AT has archived several terabytes in the past, but at our current participation level, we would be able to get very little.
In the event that Google does something catastrophic to Twitch, I urge you all to join #archiveteam on EFNet. If Twitch does go down for good, we're going to need the bandwidth. At least thousands of users will need to participate in such a project.

You're making out like this is the end of the fucking world
Chill the fuck out
To me this sounds good for twitch since it's delay and all. The only thing that worries me is that twitch could have been a great competitor to YouTube if YouTube suddenly hit the fan.

I never got that since they do two completely different things.

What ever ended up with that anyway? I heard Horror got removed as a moderator originally, but then I heard something that conflicted that.

Don't say I didn't tell you so if worst comes to worst (ie Google nuking all user data).
You know, I've never understood the G+ hate... I use G+ almost everyday to videochat with my friends from HS and elsewhere. It works fine.
Then again, I also don't comment on YouTube, because the YouTube comment section is literally digital gonorrhea.
Don't say I didn't tell you so if worst comes to worst (ie Google nuking all user data).
That tinfoil hat really suits you.

I'm really gonna miss terabytes of video game streams that nobody cares about oh boy

who FUCKING CARES
i'm gonna email a googler just for you and make sure they wipe twitch data just so your tinfoil hat is justified
who FUCKING CARES

my uncle works for google he knows this keyboard code you press and it wipes everything
What ever ended up with that anyway? I heard Horror got removed as a moderator originally, but then I heard something that conflicted that.
Either way the company's reaction to the whole thing was really unprofessional. The first and only thing they should've done when they were alerted to all that crap was let their "volunteer moderator" (I'm pretty sure he was a volunteer) go. No statements to the public no nothing, just let him go. No more drama.
I'm sorry but am I the only one who thinks this is a bit fishy? 1 billion (even for twitch) seems alittle strange.
