I'm sorry but am I the only one who thinks this is a bit fishy? 1 billion (even for twitch) seems alittle strange.
instagram: 715 million usd
nest: 3.2 billion usd
snapchat: (offered) 3 billion usd
1 billion isn't unusual in the tech industry
It's not the G+ I even care about, it's the copyright abuse that will be pulled if this goes through.
twitch already pull that shit anyway
lol sorry guys you cant stream this video game you bought a few days before purchase :^) DMCA for you
Twitch puts out warnings for games before release.
fucking seriously? I want youtube to die so a better video sharing site comes up already. But this is going to prolong things quite a bit..
fix the delay pls
The delay won't be fixed unless they leave HLS for RTMP or something else. Basically there is an automatic like 12second delay minimum.
I find it hilarious how Google's reputation on Facepunch went from "yeah sure if google took over the world i'd be ok with it" to "THEY'RE THE WORST COMPANY EVER" based entirely on G+ and their shitty treatment of Youtube.

more like a couple of idiots that misunderstood how the new pages/youtube system works and how it's actually way better

Like FP knows anything about acquisitions, the hive mind was screaming that facebook was gonna kill the rift as we knew it.
Surprise, it actually got better
I like this, I've had very negative experiences with twitch due to their inability to handle streams and chat sufficiently. Delays and buffering on both make watching what few streams I've taken an interest in a tedious experience. Hopefully this also means I will be able to get twitch streams from subscriptions on youtube, so I can watch live streams as they happen or previous streams as if they were normal videos. This is one thing YouTube Live does exceedingly well.

It depends on the company. Eg if the company is public, another company can effectively buy a majority stake in that company by buying >50% of its total existing shares, and that depends on the value of each share. I'm not sure if Twitch is public though, but everything has a value to it.

twitch is private, plus it's cash only
twitch is private, plus it's cash only
As I said, everything has a value to it. Regarding your second point, what do you think shares are typically paid for with?
I couldn't care less about G+, some redditor summed it up

Blaming Google for the government's mistakes, cool.

It's not so much that google is bad but that any competition for youtube is going away. That's never a good thing.

let's be honest
no one can compete at google's scale anyways
Live Copyright Claims
No stream is gonna be available in Germany.

Facebook could.
I'd like to see Facebook opening a livestreaming site to be honest.
Hahahahaha, so much for turbospergs suggesting "leaving youtube for twitch".
are you really using the term turbospergs unironically
you of all people
twitch possibly has en even worse UI than youtube
[editline]19th May 2014[/editline]
i'm not gonna cry over google buying it because in all honesty they wouldn't do anything nearly as bad as some people think they would
Blaming Google for the government's mistakes, cool.
Actually yeah
Before copyright companies bullied Google in to letting them fuck with youtube, videos were actually free to be watched wherever no matter what copyrighted music was on the video
with youtube being as big as it is, it's either obey to US copyright laws or suffer. they wouldn't do that if they didn't have to

I thought he was doing it as a joke? Is he serious?
Anyone who cares about their streams already has them archived on their machine.
Twitch imo has been taking steps backwards as of late, if anything I just consider this to be a step to the side.
You get a copyright violation, you get a copyright violation, and you get a copyright violation!
youtube doesn't have all of copyright violation content id stuff because google bought them, they have it because it's a side effect of being one of the most popular websites in the world combined with the fact that the entire concept of the website is that they allow you to upload any video content you want - if they didn't have the content id shit youtube would be sued into oblivion (in fact google introduced the content ID software just a few months after getting sued by viacom for a billion dollars)
google would have little reason to add a system like youtube's to twitch unless they are in danger of getting sued for a large amount of money
