I wish people like this guy would take a bit of time to visit a library. Let's start with slavery since it seems to interest you. Liberals (now the democrat party) supported slavery. Now on to segregation. Liberals again. Which group was both against slavey and for equal rights? They are known today as republicans... Now move on to social issues like social security. It was passed with overwhelming support of republicans. I know in your head you think conservatives are the greatest evil ever but it would be nice if you learned a tiny bit about your countries history...
The Conservative movement migrated to the Republican Party in the Sixties. Learn your history pal.
I don't know, I'd say social liberalism isn't very good, either, except for the equality stuff. Awfully loose social controls. Encouraging things that are subversive to marriage and monogamy as institutions. Putting criminals and victims on equal ground. Selectively disregarding certain types of oppression and (emotional) violence in favour of personal freedoms (I'm asexual and I have to put up with all kinds of shit for it, but if I try to bite back I'll just get called a slut-shamer or some dumb bullshit). Supporting certain freedoms and rights which allow for people to be incredibly destructive and nasty as long as they are sneaky about it. And liberalism is mostly based upon unrealistic optimism about, well, many, many things. I'd rather live in a conservative shithole and get called out for being a metrosexual fruit than live in a liberal shithole and get called out for being a prude, slut-shamer, and anti-sexual bigot. At least conservatives in this country can pretend to care for traditional values or social stability or what ever the hell you want to call it.
See, this is where I draw the line on calling myself a liberal. While I believe in federalized healthcare, for example I completely agree with everything you're saying. It just goes to show that politics goes beyond French Revolution Left-Wing/Right-Wing stereotyping.

The group of people who supported slavery at first were the democrats, yes. but guess what - around the middle of the 1900s there was a massive flip in political groups - the group that supported slavery, known as the democratic party, switched bases entirely with the republican party. their ideologies, everything, flipped on a dime. the people, and system of ideology, that supported slavery are now confined within the republican party. it's called the southern strategy if you'd like to actually take some time visit a library to understand what the fuck you're talking about.
hooray who needs women and blacks to vote anyway i think the constitution def needs to be restored to its former glory
Why not go a step further and only allow wealthy landowners to vote?
uhhhhhhhhh I don't think you know what the terms "liberal" and "conservative" actually mean, pal. (they are relative terms whose exact definition depends on the social context in which they are being used. someone who opposed the eradication of an old and important social/legal institution like slavery would, by definition, have been a conservative)
Now that's just ignorant.
Now that's just ignorant.
Whatever you do, don't argue why.
And all this time Americans keep joking about going to Canada for better health care :v:
The medical service plan here sucks, things like dental aren't covered because it's too expensive for the government to pay for.
i'm sorry, defund the organization that prevents people from carrying weapons aboard airplanes? why?
Because the TSA is nothing more than an invasion of privacy. They're completely ineffectual at doing what they exist to do, they harass travellers needlessly, they steal shit all the damn time, and are nothing more than a knee-jerk reaction by a fearful, paranoid and stupid public to a terrorist attack that, oddly enough, would do absolutely fucking nothing to prevent the exact same attack from happening again. The TSA is a worthless agency that has no business existing at all. Defund it, disband it, and never replace it. As for the NSA...they serve a valid enough purpose but they're waaay too big for their own good. So yeah. They get gutted too. Maybe 10% the size they currently are at most.
Now that's just ignorant.
Um, why? What do you think the "conserve" bit of "conservative" means? By definition it's a political affiliation opposed to paradigm shifts. (Unless you're a reactionary conservative in which case you want a paradigm shift - but backwards)
Damn it, I was reading a news story about the NHS, how did I get in a thread about american politics?
