Here's why
This is history that hasn't been studied. This was a historical structure that could have been researched and studied to understand a people that are long gone now. We could have understood our past, something many people consider very important, but not once the building is destroyed and forgotten for more real estate.
Your idea of comparing cherynobyl and this is ludicrious and makes no sense.
your belief on this issue is shitty, nothing is gained by the destruction of our history
I rather have a mall built to aid the economy then some guys circlejerking over bricks built by some dead guys imo
I am quite honestly dumbfounded by this post. You honestly think we keep these around so that we can just learn how to build them? What the fuck?
I can't believe the lack of cultural interest and absent sense of historical value present in this thread.
I can't believe the lack of logic and absent sense of reasoning in this thread.
I'm not a conservative but keep putting words in my mouth ok?
The Amazon is actually important compared to some dusty bricks.
I'm amazed how much Facepunch complains about how slow mankind's growth and technology advancement is in other threads but weeps about old rocks being destroyed.
Your argument about the amazon literally makes no sense, you know were talking about a pyramid that takes up about 100m^2 right? Do you really think people in Peru has so little space available that they have to tear down pyramids that take up an extremely small amount of space? 100m^2 is such a small fraction of the amazon that it literally makes zero difference, and don't pull the "if we do it many times it does in fact make a difference" because it isn't enough heritage sites that it can make a difference.
"This guys were here 4 thousands of heres ago and made a pretty pyramid.
It's has the same value as some teenager making a "Joe was herez" graffiti after thousands of years later
Well I'll give you a point for the tourist attractions.
I'd personally hate to live in a world that is nothing but the 'now' where all evidence of the past is nonexistant
I rather have a mall built to aid the economy then some guys circlejerking over bricks built by some dead guys imo
You are kind of forgetting in your infinite wisdom of the machinations of progress that there's like 148,939,999,950 square meters where that mall can be built that are not sharing the space of a 4,000 year old pyramid
Can we fast forward this episode to the part where Iago spills the beans about his deep seated pyramid prejudice
I rather have a mall built to aid the economy then some guys circlejerking over bricks built by some dead guys imo
We can build malls elsewhere. Lima is surrounded by desert, so we're not lacking space.
Your attitude of "Let's destroy the past to make room for the present" is extremely stupid. The past must serve as a reminder of our history, a way for people to connect with their culture.

You have no logic or sense of reasoning. Just because you can build a few houses or build a mall to "help the economy" does not mean you should destroy priceless relics from the past to do so. A few houses and a mall would hardly boost the economy to the point where its worthy of destroying something like that. The people who lived four thousand years ago completed major works of engineering with nothing but ropes and man power, but lets just destroy this magnificent work for some fucking houses.

It's called a textbook.
It's called a textbook.
If we destroyed all the relics of the past, there would be nothing to put in text books.

Those houses will actually be useful and help people instead of staring at old ass pyramids all day to get "culturely enriched"

I guess the berlin wall never existed right?

What was that thing you said about logic?

There are plenty of other places to build houses.
And there's a lot of the Berlin Wall still standing.
Those houses will actually be useful and help people instead of staring at old ass pyramids all day to get "culturely enriched"
Those houses could have been built in other areas, and its not like you can build a whole neighborhood over the location of the pyramid. You could fit maybe 1 or 2 houses in the area of the pyramid.

Three fucking percent of Earth's land mass has been urbanized.
Three percent.
There's another 97% of the Earth for them to build their houses on without ruining historically important artifacts.
There is absolutely no good justification for the actions of these companies. Absolutely none. Your arguments are illogical and retarded and fucking idiotic. Right next to these pyramids there was open land they could have used, but they bulldozed the pyramids instead. It's retarded.
Also, the tearing down of the Berlin wall was a historically critical event. Building a housing project over a pyramid is not historically important by any stretch of the imagination. There are sections of the Berlin Wall that are preserved - for obvious reasons.
Since everybody disagree with me, can you guys help me understand what's so damn evil about getting rid of junk?
Im surprised the workers even did it.
There's no shortage of poor, uneducated workers in Peru who would be more than happy to take the place of dissenters.

I want to know actual benefits not imaginary values

You have an amazing lack of understanding of what everyone said to you, we who care about history did NOT CONSIDER THEM JUNK, I guess the great wall of china is junk too right, we don't need it anymore, it's use is done, just some old bricks am I right?
I think I'm gonna faint
There's no shortage of poor, uneducated workers in Peru who would be more than happy to take the place of dissenters.
No, they have families to feed and not going to let some worthless trash be in their way.

It's actual useful and brings money into the state, these pyramids are not.
It's actual useful and brings money into the state, these pyramids are not.
Oh my god, are you really so cynical that you can't see the value of something that doesn't make money?
I guess those statues of revolutionary/civil war heroes in America are useless huh, you don't make money off those they just sit around wasting space you could fit like HALF A HOUSE THERE!

Learning about ancient civilizations maybe??
you are very hard-nosed, I can see what you're trying to say, progress is important, but isn't information important to? Don't you want to learn how we humans lived and worked before today? To me, that's absolutely fascinating.
Yes, it doesn't put food on my plate or get us any closer to the cure for cancer, but isn't it nice to have a little more to your life than the bare-essentials? We're graced with the ability to care about more than survival, we should try and use that to do neat stuff.
That's nice and all but we won't learn much from THESE pyramids and it's in the way, why punish the real estate companies?
What kind of important info can we learn here? Nothing.
We should keep important shit persevered but not every piece of dirt a caveman has shitted on.

The point people have been exhaustively trying to make was that neither is it in the way nor was it a part of "every piece of dirt a caveman has shitted on", so you have literally no leg to stand on here. Good god stop.

Are you seriously comparing a 4,000 year old pyramid to a piece of dirt a caveman shat on
What do you think about destroying natural monuments/wonders? (say we had limitless ability in doing so)
Btw, Egypt made $13,633,000,000 in tourist money in 2010. Tourism based on oh I dunno hmmm

The thing is they're not in the way of development.
I'm not supporting the pyramids being torn down, I'm supporting shit getting done. i'm just neutral on this but it's no big deal.
