Or maybe the 'parting of the water' was just a metaphor for Moses leading his peeps through the Sea of Reeds, where Egyptian chariots couldn't go, as my yr 9 RE teacher said may have been possible. The entire bible is just a big book of metaphors and parables.
you mean lies and absurdities?
you mean lies and absurdities?
No, metaphors and parables.
No, not really. Except for Revelation, most of the Bible isn't actually written in metaphorical language. Which is another reason why the vast gaps between denominations makes little to no sense.
Fictional book.
I like how scientists are on about disproving Jesus' doings, all the while trying to prove things like the Red Sea parting from the Old Testatement. I sense some... Logical fallacies here. :v:
Take that you believers.

But i agree on the fact that it's not to be taken literally.
Exodus 14:21 - Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. We already knew it was wind.
Sounds unlikely. I appreciate a scientific explaination to parting the sea but it is more likely they just made it up
Since Moses never existed I'm gonna go a step further and say the whole story is made up.

[editline]06:39PM[/editline]
how come the LORD gets credit? Aren't there strong east winds every single god damn day?
Because the winds came when he asked, so obviously it was the Lord's doing.

They should have spent time adding to the mountain of evidence for evolution :v:
Pathetic scientists grasping at straws on a fucking 3500 years old philosophic legend. don't they have an America to save?
Pathetic scientists grasping at straws on a fucking 3500 years old philosophic legend. don't they have an America to save?
why are you on the internet. don't you have pedophiles to hunt.
Not only that but why study the causes of an event in christian mythology that's mainly just a lullaby in the same way as the tooth fairy and Easter bunny for kids anymore.
They are trying to find scientific explanations for the "miracles" in the Bible in order to add to the mountain of evidence against the Christian god.
They are trying to find scientific explanations for the "miracles" in the Bible in order to add to the mountain of evidence against the Christian god.
it would take a hell of a lot of luck for the wind to work in the jews' favour like that

It's undeniable that moses freed the jews. HOW he did it is the question
it would take a hell of a lot of luck for the wind to work in the jews' favour like that
Which is exactly why it probably never happened literally, but was just another of many metaphors written into the Bible and interpreted as completely serious.
Oh for gods sake There are Christians on this forum such as myself This isnt religious discussion ya'know :colbert:
God parted the red sea for Moses.
You had better not be serious
I thought the theory was that all the plagues and miracles could have been caused by a volcanic eruption and good timing.
Oh for gods sake There are Christians on this forum such as myself This isnt religious discussion ya'know :colbert:
You should be thankful the atheists in this thread aren't being militant a flaming. I, myself, am giving completely legitimate reasons as to why the events in the Bible can be explained without miracles. For example, Jonah didn't actually spend 3 days in the belly of the whale, but instead spent 3 days sailing under a constellation that was thought to give bad luck to sailors, and to sail under it was to be "in the belly of the whale."
