Dem Dozen Threatens to Bail on Health Care Over Abortion Language
There's already a ban on federal funding of abortions, and there's already language in the bill that prevents subsidies from being used to purchase insurance that covers abortions. What Stupack is trying to do is ban any and all insurance plans that cover abortion from being sold on the insurance exchange. It's not about federal funding, it's about carrying out a de facto ban on abortion for anyone poor enough to need insurance to cover it.
If what you're saying is true then I'm in agreement. I just don't believe the government should fund unneeded operations, funding abortion is exactly the same to me as funding plastic surgery.

What if it's a matter of life and death?
What if it's a matter of life and death?

That should be an out of pocket procedure unless it is a life-threatening situation.
First-trimester abortions cost around $500. Assuming that many recipients of abortions are already poor/on welfare, the savings on welfare alone would cover abortion costs. Even thinking about wealthier people, $500 per abortion will still save money over having another kid (18 years of tax breaks for dependent children).

In both cases of plastic surgery and abortion there are exceptions. If it's a needed operation then it should be funded, but other than that it is a luxury.

I don't think that we should spend money on unnecessary procedures. If we allow people to get abortions on federal money why not tit enhancements?

Boob jobs cost a fuckton more than abortions. Boob jobs don't save the government any money. Boob jobs don't ruin the lives of young women who made a mistake.
Boob jobs cost a fuckton more than abortions.
So? They are just as necessary as the average abortion.
Boob jobs don't save the government any money.
How about we stop welfare and government funded and subsidized health care, that will save the government a shit ton more money right? :downs:

Abortion isn't supposed to be a contraceptive. If a girl wants an abortion she can pay for it out of her own pocket.

This.

Unless she was raped or something of that sort.

No, but people make mistakes. That's why we have Plan B.
No, but people make mistakes. That's why we have Plan B.
Plan B costs like 60 bucks. Abortions cost even more.
You shouldn't have to rely on either unless you're retarded.

Again, I'm not saying that anyone who's not retarded would rely on them.
If a retarded person who relied on Plan B and abortion as contraceptive substitutes had a kid, she'd be a horrible mother.

Yes but it isn't our job to fix everyone's mistakes. Keeping someone alive and relatively healthy is one thing, but if we all pay to fix everyone's mistakes then we will all be broke. Sometimes you have to take your mistakes and learn from them.

A kid at 16 isn't something you learn from.
"Shit, I had to drop out of school because I got myself knocked up. I'll keep that in mind when I get reincarnated."
Regardless, abortion is currently legal in all 50 states, and as a legitimate medical procedure, it deserves the same level of funding other legit medical procedures get.
I agree with the above statement.

Most kids at 16 are so freaked out from the brainwashing the government does about condoms that they refuse to have sex without them.
And dudes at that age only last 5 seconds so the chance of it breaking is close to none.
If you're stupid enough to get pregnant at 16, you should have to pay for it, or at least part of it.
Sometimes having the government pay for everything isn't the best course of action.

No, they're getting misinformation from the anti-contraception health curricula that the same people who oppose abortion funding originally pushed.
Studies have shown that abstinence-only education may make teens have sex later, but they have higher rates of pregnancy and lower rates of condom usage than those who got educated about contraception.
A kid at 16 isn't something you learn from.
Bullshit. Put the kid up for adoption if you can't afford abortion, but don't have the government pay for every mistake. If the government paid for the mistakes that I have made I would be a rich motherfucker.
Regardless, abortion is currently legal in all 50 states, and as a legitimate medical procedure, it deserves the same level of funding other legit medical procedures get.
I'm not saying it isn't legit, I'm saying it's about as necessary as plastic surgery for the government to fund. I'm not ruling out every case for abortion, but for the most part it is not something that society should have to pay for.
EDIT:
"Shit, I had to drop out of school because I got myself knocked up. I'll keep that in mind when I get reincarnated."
No one has to drop out of school, that's a conscious choice.
No, they're getting misinformation from the anti-contraception health curricula that the same people who oppose abortion funding originally pushed.
That's something I can agree with. Condoms should be given out, not just for birth control but disease control.
Better investment: freely available rubbers in high schools.
Exactly.

Maybe in America.
Here in Canada, at least in Toronto, everyone learns about condoms.

That's the problem with the Good Ol' USA. We still have a bunch of religious nutters who want to put their opinions as fact in schools.

You guys also have significantly lower teen pregnancy and teen abortion rates than the US. Coincidence?

Old. The Democrats are completely ignoring Stupack now, since it's pretty clear that he doesn't actually command 12 votes for his little abortion-banning crusade.
