Just to think that on this very moment, Maybe even hundreds of people are in jail while being innocent
There are also some very nasty people.. in and outside of prison. A lot of them.
And yet Bob Saget and Glenn Beck are still free men.
imagine being released and discovering smartphones, the internet, how much the world has moved on.
It's probably like:
"Holy Christ, there's all these girls on 'webcams' showing off their tits and anyone can watch, the world has gone crazy! Hold up, Nikki's starting her show, talk to you later."
Despite how terrible this is, I still chuckled at his hoodie
Hope he can live the rest of his life in peace
38 years of his life, if he were to work minimum wage with the average amount of working time for employees of minimum wage, he would have about $2,888,000. (this is on minimum wage of $7.25 and not including taxes) Most people do not stay on minimum wage for their entire life and he could have very well go on to make much much more.

Not to mention that even with being proven innocent, accusations stick, as well as even having gone to jail. They have essentially ruined his life.
The time he lost and the tortures he had to endure are more important than money. He deserves a big compensation still.
It's extremely heartbreaking
What makes it worse is this is what people want prison to be like so they can feel some kind of sick sense of retribution in knowing that criminals get raped and killed.
you're joking, right?
the overwhelming majority of innocent people that are locked up for more than ten years for rape and murder happen to be black men, and this was further evidence of that pattern
recognizing racism doesn't make you racist, and if you think it does, you're stupid.
I dunno I thought "David Bryant" was a British name so I decided not to judge what race someone is based on the crime that they didn't commit
I dunno I thought "David Bryant" was a British name so I decided not to judge what race someone is based on the crime that they didn't commit
I think he was thinking of Kobe Bryant.
Must be nice to finally be out and be able to explore the world, but nothing and nobody can ever give him those years back.
His false conviction was not only a failure of the justice system of the united states but of humanity in general. This kind of thing should never be allowed to happen.
At least he wasn't killed. With all the mistakes, especially these, how can anybody support the death penalty?
ruling that his court-appointed lawyer botched his trial defense.

How do some people sleep at night?
it's incredibly sad that just by looking at the title you can guess that the man is black.
just further evidence of the incredible racial bias in the american justice system, and how prevalent structural racism still is.
I looked at the title and assumed nothing about his race. I was a bit more concerned about the fact that he was falsely imprisoned for a very serious crime.
Honestly, there are probably more than just hundreds
I know someone personally who is serving life sentence without possibility of parole. Ex-wife created an elaborate story, had connections inside the court system, information "mysteriously" went missing and now a life ruined because of it.
I remember a while back, a 16 year old boy in Saskatchewan was falsely convicted for the murder of 2 girls. He was in jail like 20 years before they proved this innocence. He got compensated with $10mil but they took away the prime of his life.
So this guy should get compensated, but you can never compensated enough.
even if there was only a 1% false conviction rate, that would leave like 2500 innocent people incarcerated in the united states alone.
[editline]13th April 2013[/editline]
some people estimate the actual rate is 4-6% though.
a Harvard study put it at about 11-14% while the common consensus is around 8%.
I looked at the title and assumed nothing about his race. I was a bit more concerned about the fact that he was falsely imprisoned for a very serious crime.
again given that the majority of falsely imprisoned individuals are black males, making the assumption that david bryant - an ambiguous name by all accounts - is black, and being correct, is disheartening
IS he being compensated for all those 38 years falsely imprisoned?
IS he being compensated for all those 38 years falsely imprisoned?
There isnt any mention of Compensation in the article as far as I read, so technically no.
It still pisses me off that the justice system managed to miss this by so so many miles, heck, like another person said it couldive even been racism that motivated them to put him behind bars despite him being innocent.
so is the actual murderer still out there?
It's rather amazing that guy is still smiling, what used to be a decent looking young guy now looks like he's been beaten horribly for most of his life =/
Death penalty for the judge in that case ( oh wait probably already happened)
Death penalty for the judge in that case ( oh wait probably already happened)
death penalty for people with fucking ridiculous opinions
I keep reading this as "David Brent"
I don't remember this episode of The Office
I know someone personally who is serving life sentence without possibility of parole. Ex-wife created an elaborate story, had connections inside the court system, information "mysteriously" went missing and now a life ruined because of it.
uhh maybe you should GO TO THE AUTHORITIES WITH THIS INFORMATION OR SOMETHING
A straight-played and horrifying example of "guilty until proven innocent".
I know this was 38 years ago, but the U.S. court and justice system needs a serious refurbishing.
only knew he was black because i thought he might have been related to kobe bryant
In Hungary, if you are falsely imprisoned you will be completely compensated in money for the lost time, lol.
so is the actual murderer still out there?
beats the fuck out of me.
Just to think that on this very moment, Maybe even hundreds of people are in jail while being innocent
It would easily be in the thousands, especially minor offences such as drugs.
