Yeah because the lower class is all throughout the government and not one politician takes a bribe at all today.
I think the point is to create shitty morale, so there's a bigger pressure from the public and personnel to bring back funding.
It'll be a major talking point in the next presidential election i bet, it almost was one this last one.
Seems like a gamble of a move to try, but then again whomever is doing it probably doesn't have to worry about it either way personally.
But here we are forcing the Army to buy a bunch of tanks that it doesn't even want
I was on Ft. Hood so I wasn't affected, but it has to have sucked for others who until now have been able to enjoy it for years
This and telling soldiers that their average rations are being cut back? What the fuck man.
Here's a budget cut, all senators and congressmen, $20,000 a year. The President, $30,000 a year.
Lol yes that wouldn't make bribes more attractive at all.

What are you talking about? It's never a gamble, it's a tried-and-true method of political whining. What do cities cut when they're having funding issues and politicians want to do Some Expensive Bullshit? Bus fleet numbers, celebrations, shit you want, not the shit you want them to actually cut. The state governments and federal government use the same strategy all the time. There is a reason the White House tours got pruned almost immediately, and it ain't necessity.
Everybody knows tying expenditures to other expenditures is a regular thing, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that tying cuts to other cuts is a regular thing.
There was nothing here, and it was lame.
you cut the militaries budget so they cut what the soldiers want/need most so then the soldiers and people in usa support a larger military budget
it's the people directing the cash away from the soldiers down time that are making this happen
Given the price of a single missile could supply every military base with enough fireworks to make it midday at midnight, this is purely political bullshit.
Due to budget cuts, many marines who have passed away are refused a live bugler to perform Taps. In many instances they play a recording, which is shameful.
You know had the fireworks budget cut been publisized properly. I am 100% sure the American public would've funded the fireworks for our troops. I blame bad pr for our military.
The moment I read this I was hurt. I have friends in family in the military, and fireworks are a tradition for the 4th. Not only that, but we can afford to send the Obama's on a $100M adventure to Africa, but can't afford a simple $25k firework show for each base, totaling up to less than $250k?
I'm tired of seeing the military make sacrifices for this administration.
Cry me a river. There's people losing their jobs over these cuts, and you're complaining because your friends didn't get a chance to see some pretty lights? If they wanted fireworks they could have gone over to the nearest town that had them. You know, like every other person in america does.
The military already takes up a third of this country's budget. If we can't cut the military, what are we allowed to cut? Education?
Good. Most large cities hold their own firework shows anyway, why waste the money
Went to Okuma for the 4th of July fireworks (for all my Oki folks);it looked like the quidditch World Cup so it kind of made up for the 5 minutes of fireworks. Budget cuts still suck though.
Good. Most large cities hold their own firework shows anyway, why waste the money
Morale is extremely important for those in service. No fireworks on base could lower morale and thus the overall productivity.
The point of a higher than average salary is so that it's not impossible for lower class to get into office, or even worse, so that any and all politicians are susceptible to bribing.
Is that why running for office is so expensive that the average person will never be able to afford it?
Lol yes that wouldn't make bribes more attractive at all.
Citizens United made bribing redundant. You don't need bribes when you can accept donations.
I don't get why they waste so much money on tanks and aircraft and then do this?

Can I have the source on that 'adventure'.

Defense contractors and senators with their hands down each-other's pants.

I believe the amount that congressman are paid is so high because it is supposed to help prevent corruption. It doesn't really help as much as we'd like though seeing as most congressman are rather wealthy to begin with and will take bribes regardless of how much they make.
You'd think we'd just stop building planes that blow up in lightning storms and save some money or something.

You never fly in a lightning storm. Ever. If the weather is bad, nothing flies, and if lightning is present, all aircraft are hangar'd. Lightning storms are threats to every aircraft in existence.

Its much better.
There's actually a correlation between wages and corruption I believe. (The lower the more corrupt).
Sometimes wages are so low that it's almost an encouragement to be corrupt.

This would save, like, no money whatsoever. Congrats, you've axed all their salaries and saved about 4.7 million dollars. Last year, the government spent 3.3 trillion dollars, or 9 billion dollars per day, which is 377 million dollars per hour. You just saved enough money to run the country for about five and a half minutes. Good job!

It's not even like Congressmen make all that much, though. Good private practice doctors make more than they do, and there are a heck of a lot more doctors than congressmen. That's not to say that $175k is small potatoes, but for the people who literally run the country (or at least, pretend to run the country)? Really not that outrageous.

Lol, I've been through thunderstorms on multiple occasions in commercial airliners, and the only response from the pilots was to turn on the seatbelt sign. If a MD-80 can do it, a 113 million dollar per unit aircraft should be able to. Granted, commercial pilots generally try and cut around electrical storms, but most planes are built to withstand lightning strikes.
What is the use of a multi-role fighter that can't handle weather?
"Sorry special operations group pinned down by overwhelming numbers, there's a 60% chance of rain, so we can't get you evac or air support!"

Planes generally hold up well to lightning. The F-35 is just piece of shit.

There's a difference between doing something in a combat zone and doing something for training. There's no sense in taking unnecessary risks if you're doing a routine flight. You're not going to go jump into a burning building for the hell of it.
