Ok ok ok... Fine morals aside.
Where is all the awesome videos of the tsunami? Searching about it on youtube sucks.

Pictures like this are so surreal. A burning house surrounded by water.
When I see news like this; It just reminds me of that this can happen where I live(Minus the Tsunamis) too. We live right on top of the New Madrid Fault Zone(Southeastern Missouri, Southern Illinois, Arkansas, Far Western Kentucky, and Tennesse.) Last time(1811-12) it went off it changed the course of the Mississippi River, turned a swamp into a lake, and sunk part of a town. But it is not well known because at the time; this area had hardly anybody living in it. But it is still a scary thing to think about, but it wouldn't be to the scale like this.
Luckily Japan had been planning for this moment for years and were very well prepared.
I have been trying to keep track of this all day; but I am school and most websites are blocked(And Strangely Facepunch isn't) and most videos don't work.
I think the greatest impending disaster is the Nuclear power plant.

Waves and surges hitting the California coastline for the past few hours.
(Link removed, stream was crap and the coverage ended)
Do you guys know how many has died in this yet?
This tsunami looks pretty powerfull..
Mum says the reports say about 200 dead so far and it's rising
Just woke up and didn't manage to take pics of the tsunami hitting here in Cali but local police and coast guards have shut down the beaches since there's also other fears where the aftershocks send the earthquakes
so far no damage afaik
Got teh email from my cousins and family in Sasebo City, Nagasaki; they're really ok but that's all they have on the local news

Actually the current death toll estimates from the Japanese government are over a thousand dead, hundreds more missing....
Christ, I hope nothing happens with that Nuclear Power Plant. :l

Difficult to get an exact estimate, just wait for the next official statement.

So much death and destruction in the last few months :smith:

this makes me wonder if San Francisco has any nuclear power plants
Holy shit.
buildings are designed to give some leeway, especially when built in areas prone to this activity. If they were perfectly rigid they'd be much more likely to shake apart and topple

it's amazing that they're not falling over
Looking at the Japanese stream right now, 385 dead and Nagano area got hit by a magnitude 6

Aye, I know. But that doesn't make the scene any less surreal - or frightening.

Japanese engineering at it finest. Their earthquakeproof skyscrapers are amazing!
Just in: EARTHQUAKE ALERT
currently Gunma, Niigata, Nagano and Fukushima are earthquake right now
That Japanese nuclear reactor problem seems like it's trying to be another Chernobyl. Let's hope it doesn't come to that...
why won't it stop!?
Here come another Japanese earthquake
