For those of you that do not know, the reactors all have backup coolant systems.

James Acton, a physicist who examined the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa plant after a 2007 earthquake, told CNN that Japanese authorities are in a race to cool down the Fukushima reactor. "If they can't restore power to the plant (and cool the reactor), then there's the possibility of some sort of core meltdown," he said.
Then why is he saying stuff like that?
Might be a nuclear meltdown apparently, god that's scary, I hope it won't explode like in Russia.
When there's an earthquake and you see those massive holes that have been opened up, where do they go? I used to think it was to the centre of the earth but I'm sure that can't be right.
[release]The evacuation order went out also in the second nuclear power plant in Fukushima. [/release] Apparently.
My mom walked in and saw I was really into this, thinking I was depressed about it she tried to make a joke "Well, Rice prices are going to go up!", I told her the joke was really in poor taste, "Rice usually does have a poor taste" she added the went to go watch the news and follow it What just happened. And it was more of a "Is radiation bad" comment that confused me, radiation is fucking awful and will kill you in a heartbeat, and is one of the biggest threats we have. Yeah it's bad
Fuck yea, according to my relatives in Sasebo, Nagasaki, the US Navy sent out their ships right away (Sasebo has a US base)
Might be a nuclear meltdown apparently, god that's scary, I hope it won't explode like in Russia.
There wont be a nuclear meltdown. It's Japan. They are prepared for stuff like that... or not.
Might be a nuclear meltdown apparently, god that's scary, I hope it won't explode like in Russia.
That accident was in Ukraina EDIT: Oh I mean Ukraine. Accidentally spelled it in swedish.
[release]The evacuation order went out also in the second nuclear power plant in Fukushima. [/release] Apparently.
That's bad. This is one of the bad things of having Nuclear Power, we have to worry about every little thing that happens. Let's find out how to do Nuclear Fusion soon, no pollution, 10 times safer, and 10 times the energy.

My JASDF cousin in Hokkaido called apparently at the time of the start of the quakes and my aunt was like lolwtf :v:
the reactor is gonna be fine
the reactor is gonna be fine
Apparently not since they lost control of it.
Apparently not since they lost control of it.
Oh shit.
the reactor is gonna be fine
Reactor? There are five that have gone out of control, or at least lost power to the coolant systems. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110312/ap_on_re_as/as_japan_quake_power_plant_17 http://www.newser.com/article/d9ltbef80/emergencies-at-5-nuclear-reactors-in-japan-after-quake-knocks-out-power-to-cooling-systems.html
Serious question, but have any volunteer or government organizations in the U.S. come forth with the need for volunteers? I would very willingly go to Japan to help out with everything, if need be.

You will not be sent over without any training whatsoever.
the reactors are gonna be fine*
I really hope you are right, five reactors worth of shit going into the atmosphere would not be good for the planet. [editline]12th March 2011[/editline]
Japan have only asked for a certain amount of help. Also, even if you signed up. This isn't some shitty third world country here, Japan can fend for itself for the most part with just a bit of foreign aid and supplies.
I doubt you will see much in the way of that kind of stuff until the situation is stablized.
That makes sense, I suppose. They don't want untrained individuals wandering a potentially unstable area, IE buildings that have shifted off of their foundations and such, right? I mean, I know that I don't have anything along the lines of technical skills, but there's gotta be something, right? Also, I imagine they're going to be having blood and plasma shortages, so maybe the Red Cross will start up a donation program specifically for Japan?

Like Medical teams or search and rescue experts. Not just the average joe looking to help out. As nice as that is.
Its not like its been kept a secret for a week and a half and escalated from there.
Its not like its been kept a secret for a week and a half and escalated from there.
It's not like they have pants on head retarded leaders either.
Might be a nuclear meltdown apparently, god that's scary, I hope it won't explode like in Russia.
In Chernobyl the reactors were still running, in Japan they were shut down as soon as the earthquake hit. There is a chance of leaking, but it will not even get close to the severity of the Chernobyl disaster.

They're still reacting, and with the lack of coolant due to the power failure this could become a serious problem.
holy penis

the military was all like "hey japan u want some coolant lol" and they're like "no thx, its coo" [editline]11th March 2011[/editline] just fyi
US Navy is en route
