Why are you acting like a movie trailer?
Brilliant WHYS on BBCW/World Service just now. Beats an interview with canned questions. Much better to have the informed and in the involved grilling Kan's spokesman than a hapless newscaster. They're bouncing questions I wouldn't have thought of in ages.

A 60-year-old man has been rescued by the military after floating out to sea on the roof of his home when a tsunami engulfed Japan's coast.

Hiromitsu Shinkawa was pulled from the sea after he was spotted waving a red cloth about 10 miles offshore from the quake-ravaged town of Minamisoma, a spokesman for Japanese forces said.
Mr Shinkawa told his rescuers that the tsunami hit as he and his wife returned home to gather some belongings after the quake. He said his wife was swept away.
"Several helicopters and ships passed by, but none of them noticed me," he is reported to have said.
Japanese troops used a small boat to pluck him from the ocean.
Military officials said Mr Shinkawa was lucky that mild weather and relatively calm seas enabled him to stay afloat for nearly two days, the Kyodo news agency reported.
"I thought (it) was the last day of my life," he said.

Apparently there isn't a second tsunami.

Shit, that brought tears to my eyes, too. Imagine what those soldiers must be feeling, though. That's their homeland in ruins.

2253: The tweet by Katie Hinman of ABC News about the lonely horse in Sendai (See 2146) prompted Breda Gahan in Dublin to email in: "Can't believe I read this. Please return horse to Natsuko Komura." The BBC's Damian Grammaticas interviewed Ms Komura on Sunday as she searched for her trusty steed near Sendai's beach. She had been riding it when the tsunami approached on Friday, but had not seen it since. "Deepest sympathy to all the Japanese people affected by this terrible tragedy. I am speechless when I see the images," Ms Brehan adds.
