Britain: Hottest day of the year as record temperatures rise to 17c

I took my hoody off today, it was liberating.
Some people happen to like comparing the climates of different geological locations.
In my opinion, the worst thing about weather threads are the people like you that jump on people that like to compare locations. Just because you dislike it is no reason to waste thread space arguing about it
its not just me tho
everyone dislikes it
except the bizarre ritual of stealth bragging weather nerds
weather threads are tedious
the only thing worse than weather threads are the people who feel the need to opine their boring geographical comparisons that no one really cares about
it happens several times in every damn thread
only an idiot would be surprised that weather is indeed different elsewhere than Britain
thank you
ty for the opinion and for showing us you have limited knowledge of scrolling past posts you don't like but that doesn't mean others aren't interested. Of course I know Britain is going to have different temperatures, and I know why they do, but it's something you never really think about if you don't live there.
I don't spontaneously wonder "hmm what's the highest temperature in Liberia this year", so actually seeing the temperature is interesting, even though you knew it would be different.
no one really cares about
Also don't make decisions for everyone, the world isn't revolving around what you think, there are obviously people who care.

For the most part, it isn't so much comparison as it is "lol pasty brits shit weather"
As much as NoDachi goes overboard about it, it's pretty fucking annoying.

It's basically the same as speedtest dickwaving. Sometimes it can be relevant, but most of the time it is just irritating and repetitive.

I really doubt ashxu was trying to make fun of Britain's bad weather, it was just a comparison and you're looking too deep into it. Australia has bad weather too, being excessively hot for example, and in Canada it gets super cold even though we can (where I live at least) get pretty hot summers.
Every place ever has bad weather and it would be laughable if someone tried to make fun of one countries bad weather while forgetting their own.

You British people get so offended over people making fun of your embarrassingly low heat tolerance, it's a little sad that you guys get so defensive and can't just accept that your "hot temperatures" are laughable for almost everyone else in the entire world.
lmao this is exactly what i mean
Seriously? 62 degrees is hot to you? That's jacket weather....
I know you guys aren't used to it, but seriously, 60 fucking degrees makes the news?
[editline]9th March 2014[/editline]
I'll never forget during last years 'heat wave' I tried to help some people out by telling them how to keep cool. At least 3 people told me I was an idiot because "a fan won't do anything, blowing hot air around isn't going to make me cool lol".
lmao this is exactly what i mean
And this is what I mean, so defensive instead of just going "you know yeah you're right, our idea of hot ain't shit compared to other countries in the world" you have to fervently oppose such views.
Funny to think 17c would be considered a cold day in Australia or some other parts of the world.
How does this post even get dumbs, it's completely and undeniably true.
but this is just a boring story of it being unusually hot this time of year for a certain part of the world
nothing more
"our idea of hot ain't shit compared to other countries in the world"
is the most asinine statement you could possible make on the whole thing
so why would anyone make it?

Posting "grass is green and water's wet" is completely and undeniably true, doesn't mean it's relevant.
The weather looked nice from my window, I guess.
Assuming flagdog is right and you are from Poland, the average temperatures between Poland and England are practically the same except you get colder winters. If our weather sucks, so does yours.
Couldn't be more wrong.
I don't know the correct English terms, but the UK has a timid sea climate, while Poland has mostly has a continental climate. This means that the UK generally has a very average temperature. The sea heats up and cools down a lot slower than land, which means that in the summer it cools the surroundings while in the winter it warms up everything. Continental climates don't have anything like that. Their summers are hot and their winters are cold.
And just the temperature isn't the only difference. The weather's pretty different too. Assuming standard winds, the UK's weather comes from an ocean. This means you get a whole bunch of rain.
Poland's weather is a lot more complicated.
Here's a little map to explain it all a bit:

Poland doesn't really get as much rain because the Alps intercept the clouds. The few rain clouds it actually gets already went over Germany, thinning them down.
There's an exception for the winds that come from the north-east, but those tend to be a lot colder.
This lithuanian chick always complained that the UK felt colder than her home country which surprised me.
Maybe its the extra wind-chill and humidity.

I assume we just haven't levelled up our heat tolerance enough or some shit right?
The weather was pretty nice today, warm enough for me to go for a cycle around the nearby lake (dunno why I'd never done that in the 3 years I've been in this city) without it being so hot it hurt or so cold I died.
And this is what I mean, so defensive instead of just going "you know yeah you're right, our idea of hot ain't shit compared to other countries in the world" you have to fervently oppose such views.
It's pretty telling also that you feel the need to appear in threads such as these and make posts about how apparently pathetic the UK is.
People get defensive when they're being looked down on; take a look at that "6 Reasons the US is like a Third World country" thread.
Posts are being made that reflect badly on Brits and Britain, so Brits get annoyed and defensive. In other news, grass is green and the sun is shining.
As someone who lives around the west coast USA everything everyone is saying in this thread is completely alien to me. Isn't 62F cold?
I'd say I want to visit britain for a change of weather, but you guys say rain and cloudiness is boring and terrible.
What I've gathered from this thread: British people are pretty sensitive.
Wow, 17C is literally hotter than the surface of Mars
How is 66.5 hot? Its just about 80 degrees Fahrenheit every day in Florida. 60 degrees is jacket weather here.
I don't really see the problem of pointing out its a really cold day where I live.
I don't really see the problem of pointing out its a really cold day where I live.
We aren't even really making fun of them or being mean, we're just pointing out facts. It's really childish imo that they can't even own up to the facts. I love these threads, because it's mostly filled with people from Britain saying "but guys we just AREN'T used to this weather"
Well guess what, you had better get used to it because the climate is changing, this should be evident by all of the 'omg XTREME weather in the UK' threads. It's not going to be 40f and drizzling in Britain all year anymore. Get used to having 4 seasons like most of the world already is.
[editline]9th March 2014[/editline]
Like my post above about 60 being jacket weather, how is that dumb? I think British people just honetly take pride in bitching about the weather.
60f? Too hot, 30f? Too cold. You people are literally the most sensitive human beings on the planet when it comes to weather, end of story.
How is 66.5 hot? Its just about 80 degrees Fahrenheit every day in Florida. 60 degrees is jacket weather here.
Perception of temperature is entirely situational, why you and half the people in threads like these can't get their head around that is beyond my comprehension.
It's what you may consider 'very cold' in Britain for the majority of the time. Our bodies have adapted to this so when the temperature goes up, we feel discomfort as we are not suited to the climate.
For example; I wear just T-shirts in anything from around 6 Deg. Celsius upwards.
You're adapted to a considerably hotter country (Hell I visited New York in March and was baking hot walking around outside at midnight) so you have much different tolerances to us, you'd get hypothermia in Scotland by the sounds of it.
It's just common sense.
Ahhh man that sounds friggin' lovely
Funny to think 17c would be considered a cold day in Australia or some other parts of the world.
God even at this post people get buttmad. He wasn't even calling them anything.
Britain weather threads are some of the worst.

No dude, you guys complain when it's 60f, and bitch when it's 30f you people literally have a 20 degree buffer zone before your newspapers start to write stories about the weather.

Or maybe it's because every post comparing the weather is "Wow, I didn't know THAT was considered hot/cold! Where I come from it's twice/half that every day!" Which I should point out is exactly the point, you have the same weather every day, over hear it could be 17 degrees and sunny in the morning and 4 degrees and raining in the afternoon, we don't have a chance to get used to the weather because it's always changing.
That's what we're laughing at, the fact that Britains have such a specific temperature range in which they can comfortably live.

We have the same thing over here, buddy. 40f in the sun, with windchill getting down into the 10s.

Britain weather threads = instant defensive stance for all British posters
wonder how british people would deal with temperatures upwards of 100 degrees fahrenheit/37 celsius
