Aargrg, I want a sailboat!
I've been sailing for around 8 years now, it's honestly one of the best experiences one can have. The people you meet are all wonderful and the feeling of freedom is unrivalled.

Get a laser 4.7/radial.
I use my friend's radial all the time in the summer/spring, tons of fun.
Awe-inspiring!
Here I am, wasting away, playing Counterstrike at 21 years old. The younger generations has really surpassed us in their life ambitions and abilities.
The shame I can't even find a steady income and this girl has circled the globe. God bless her and her heart, she was safe through all that
Holy shit, she is circling the planet by boat at sixteen and I'm wasting away my time on the internet
Where I live nearly everyone has a boat since it's on a cape, the only boat I've ever been on is a whaling boat a couple of times and then a party boat in Washington DC. It'd be neat if I could get into that stuff, but I doubt it since I have three other siblings who keep my parents busy driving them everywhere. I want to take flying lessons, I've spent so many hours on simulators and ARMA just flying around for the joy of it. I don't know if I can do that though.
I don't even know what the hell I'm going to do once I'm out of school. I've been thinking about the Air Force but now I hear that there's a waiting list. I have an interest in Web Design and practice it but I don't know if I'll ever make a career out of that. I feel like a big failure.
Yeah I remember you...

In all seriousness though, sailing is a life-changing experience. I wish you luck towards achieving this goal of yours.
Hey, it's you! You do sailboating. Tell me about your sailboating adventures some more, please.
I remember your thread you made before you set sail to Hawaii. When BDA, Zeke and me made a fictional crew.
[editline]26th January 2012[/editline]
In all reality though I hope to be able to get some basic sailing lessons when I eventually move to the coast for college. Hopefully I'll have enough practice to do some adventure sailing of my own after I get a graduate degree.
Hey, I remember this, too! You need to hurry up and buy a sailboat, so I can use it.
Hey, it's you! You do sailboating. Tell me about your sailboating adventures some more, please.
Yes, please do.
It' apears you survived your trip to Hawaii, How was it? Where did you land?
I was all set up to learn some sailboating from a friendly fellow at the lake, but it never panned out. Our schedules got all borked up, and then winter came.

Lasers are fun, but they're a dinghy and probably wouldn't be fit to travel out in the ocean with. :v:

But uhh, it's probably not practical to go out on your own in a sailboat with just basic sailing lessons(unless it's just a dinghy on a lake or river or something). If you live near a river or the ocean you can always join a yacht club and you'll usually find boat owners looking for other people to crew in a race or something, which is good experience.
Oh man I want to sail the world so bad.
As whiny and "edgy" as it may have sounded to start out with (I don't wannaaa go to school, I wanna saaail), she doesn't seem to need school that much now.
She succeeded in life. She achieved her life dream.
She's been dreaming of sailing around the world, and she did it.
Kudos to her, absolutely.
So what have you done with your life, facepunch?
Personally am planning for a bike-ride down through Europe and Africa and then sail/fly to Australia. I'll live there for as long as I can stand and then move on to New Zealand where I plan to attend the world premier of The Hobbit. Gotta graduate this summer first though.
this makes me wish i could accomplish a life dream so i could just fucking be over with school already
A lot of people have a stick up their ass.
Boo hoo she didn't finish school. She sailed the fucking globe. That's a lot more than most people do in their life.
She can just as easily get a high school equivalency diploma if she wanted to, but she's probably going to be on the ocean most of her life.
The main concern was that if she died on the journey, she couldn't complete her life goal, couldn't get any form of education obviously, couldn't live out a life time of adventures. I understand it's very important to take risks, but that's probably what the Dutch were thinking.
Hey, it's you! You do sailboating. Tell me about your sailboating adventures some more, please.
Yeah, I was gonna make another thread. [sp]but then I got high[/sp] [sp]no, really.[/sp]
I'll probably be making a thread covering the entire journey soon, I have to get pictures together, possibly videos, lots of text, etc. It's gonna be a huge post.
I actually obeyed the law and didn't throw a hissy fit because I wasn't allowed to do what I want, leaving me in a steady position on the job market as I actually finished school.
It's mandatory to go to school till you're 18 here, she got an exception. She ran away from home because the government initially wouldn't let her leave, she quit studying on the boat as she had agreed to because she couldn't be arsed to do it and has outright lied in order to gain sympathy for her cause. Congrats that she did it, but if you add all the above together you can hardly say this has been positive overall.
Sounds like someone is jealous.

a) You only have to go to school till you're 16 in the Netherlands (or is it 17 now?).
b) "Obeyed the law." Hah. If you really don't want to anymore and want to pursue a dream such as sports, there should be no real reason why such a law should be valid for you and the judges saw that reason too.
I would be scared shitless to sail around the world in a small boat like that, especially if a bad storm happened. She's got some major fucking guts.

I tried to go mountain climbing and my parents stopped me
Partially because my mum nearly died

Also my mother know her and she called us 2 times
it's not like sailing around the world even accomplishes anything.
waste of time.

What are you even doing on the internet?
I kind of have a phobia of the actual depth of the ocean. You're literally floating several thousand meters above the ground, not knowing what kind of shit are lurking below
This. I sometimes wish the water fog editor from CryEngine Sandbox was real just so I could sail out above the Mariana Trench, turn it all off, and stare at the clear abyss below me.
If I saw fucking C'thulu, I'd shit whales right then and there...
What are you even doing on the internet?
learning.
Wow, I'd love to do something like this but I'm just a basement-dwelling dope fiend :(
