his mother forced him to stand in a cold shower. it's not like he went into a cold shower willingly
So tell me at what point during this punishment does it leave long lasting effects either emotionally or physically. Sure the child might feel like shit when taking the shower, but as soon as he steps out and dries off he'll feel fine.
You guys are being way too fucking sensitive about this. Next we're going to hear an article about somebody going to jail for false imprisonment because they sent their child to their room... And you'll all be there saying "Yeah, that's a horrible punishment the parent deserves jail!"
Same. Worked. Learned that those words were bad and not to be used at home. If you tried to teach a kid anything more, it would be too complex and they wouldn't understand. The thing about kids is that they aren't very smart, so they can't comprehend good and bad.
What kind of lesson is that? "Don't use words I don't like at home"?

yes, a cold shower is totally out of hand.
this woman is an idiot and bad parent, she should never have kids ever again
this child will grow up scared of cold liquids and slushies.

way to jump off the slippery slope.

please do the civilized world a favor by not ever breeding
you're seriously justifying child abuse

and a strawman too, boy this thread is full of fallacies.

well yeah but apparently punishing your kid in any psychical way is child abuse and if you do it you deserve to be killed. how dare she feed him hot sauce i heard the nazis used similar torture methods.
please do the civilized world a favor by not ever breeding
Yeah, I shouldn't have children because I don't believe the child will suffer long term effects from taking a cold shower.
Meanwhile you apparently have suffered some trauma from a cold shower, so I'm expecting your "Anti-Cold Water" campaign any time.
Thank god. I heard about this last year or something.
I feel sorry for people who think it's appropriate to rinse kid's mouths out with soap for "talking back" or using certain words. That's just despicable.
please do the civilized world a favor by not ever breeding

No he isn't.
well yeah but apparently punishing your kid in any psychical way is child abuse
A strawman, really? And yes, hitting your kids is child abuse, you cretin.

??????????????????????????????????????
I say that the child won't suffer any long term effects and it's not nearly as bad as other forms of punishment and I'm advocating child abuse? Are you trying to be stupid.
No he isn't.
So you'd say this is an appropriate punishment for fighting with pencils at school?
The way people are in here makes me think that they hated time outs to the point that they thought their parents were Hitler.
I feel sorry for people who think it's appropriate to rinse kid's mouths out with soap for "talking back" or using certain words. That's just despicable.
If they really wanted to stop them from using those words, they could use other none abusive methods, like taking away one of the childs items or making him stay in his room.
So you'd say this is an appropriate punishment for fighting with pencils at school?
Its more because he lied than that.

Maybe he won't be traumatized, but that's not the point. You don't have to be eternally scarred for something to be abuse.
So you'd say this is an appropriate punishment for fighting with pencils at school?
Please do me a favor because I must have not remembered typing it.
Where do I say that the child deserves punishment.
No he isn't.
He looks no more than 5, of course he's going to do stupid shit, treating him like this isn't going to help him at all.
Its more because he lied than that.
Oh...no? He probably knew he'd get this punishment, and that's why he lied. Even so, it's not appropriate in any way.
Maybe he won't be traumatized, but that's not the point. You don't have to be eternally scarred for something to be abuse.
I'm not supporting the mother's decision to punish her child like this, I'm just saying she shouldn't go to jail over it. She's not scarring he child in any way, and although it does create temporary discomfort it's nothing that deserves Jail.
Please do me a favor because I must have not remembered typing it.
Where do I say that the child deserves punishment.
I didn't quote you. I was responding to 3com111.
Its more because he lied than that.
Oh well that changes everything.
when I think child abuse I think physical assault, mental torment, neglect, and other terrible abuses on a child.
Cold showers and hot sauce don't fall into those categories.
Swishing hot sauce and being forced to take a cold shower sounds pretty tormenting to me.
I'm not supporting the mother's decision to punish her child like this, I'm just saying she shouldn't go to jail over it. She's not scarring he child in any way, and although it does create temporary discomfort it's nothing that deserves Jail.
I'm not saying she should go to prison, but put a watch out, make sure this doesn't happen again.
I didn't quote you. I was responding to 3com111.
Regarding him replying to the guy saying I'm advocating child abuse, yeah.
A strawman, really? And yes, hitting your kids is child abuse, you cretin.
Since when does all psychical interaction equate to hitting your kids?
According to your state of mind, i was abused heavily and regularly as a kid but wait i'm a contributing member of society who loves his parents and isn't a serial killer yet. There's a difference between punishing kids and child abuse.
Oh...no? He probably knew he'd get this punishment, and that's why he lied. Even so, it's not appropriate in any way.
Hot sauce and a cold shower isn't too hard a punishment, I don't see anything wrong with it and frankly, everyone is taking this as if shes beating her child to the point that he has a black eye.
If they really wanted to stop them from using those words, they could use other none abusive methods, like taking away one of the childs items or making him stay in his room.
I think the idea of needing to be punished for using "curse" words is ridiculous in and of itself. It's a word, there's no reason to flip out about it.
