What in the fuck? Where are you from? 1950 or something?
Well, my parents are pretty old, so their treatments are a bit more different than most young parents. But really, I do wish I had better parents. Never have they told me they loved me or anything like that, and have helped me with nothing at all, and have restricted me from hanging out with friends or dating any girls. Which kind of turned me into a cold person now that I think about it.
"At least he's not getting beaten" is not an acceptable reason to condone this.
Well I don't exactly condone it in any way, but it's still not as bad as the stuff some of my friends or I have been punished by.
If they really wanted to stop them from using those words, they could use other none abusive methods, like taking away one of the childs items or making him stay in his room.
I was with you guys right up until this.
Clearly you've never had your tongue soaped when you were a child. It's not painful. It's not traumatizing. It's just really bitter and tastes bad.
Comparing a kid being forced to do something distinctly painful (swishing hot sauce) with something which is nothing more than unpleasant is just bleeding-heart, ignorant garbage. Grow up.

It's still unnecessary and there are much better ways to raise a child.

Bleeding-heart? I do not give one shit how "bleeding heart" you think it is, but this is not appropriate punishment and neither is any physical punishment.

Huh... the hot sauce method is interesting, don't think i've heard of that before...
As for the cold shower that people are absolutely pissing themselves about... I've HAD that punishment before, and strangely enough, I remember it being RECOMMENDED by Defax after my parents got chewed out by the state and investigated, flagged, and a whole bunch of other useless shit because I got hit ONCE across the face because I was a lying little shit that did NOT want anything to do with school work at home. Fucking teacher threatened me with ISS in the fourth grade if I didn't tell her why I had a bruise on my face, so I told her. The state made it their business for the next 6 months. I suffered FAR more psychological pain from the shit the state was pulling than ANYTHING my parents had ever done to me. I was never abused as a child, showers aren't abuse, its a method of finding the line in a kids mind where he no longer wants to go through that shit simply to try and avoid punishment for something else. When the current methods of discipline are ineffective, you have to raise the bar in interesting ways.
There ARE cases of child abuse in this country, but this isn't it.
BECAUSE I WAS....A YOUNG BOY....MY MOTHER....TREATED ME BADLY WITH HOT SAUCE.....AND NOW SHE'S GOING TO COURT AT THE BLACK PARADE.

Standing under a cold shower involves water, waterboarding involves water, therefore this child was waterboarded! that is illegal.
[sp] yes, i'm bored. [/sp]

False.
Huh... the hot sauce method is interesting, don't think i've heard of that before...
Please, for the love of your child and everyone else, don't do this.

Let me get this straight: You lied and didn't want to do homework (Like most children) So your parents think that punching you in the face instead of reasoning or anything else was a better alternative? A+ Parents.

I like this part of the story because apparently, raising your children with reason and love and talking is for pussies and you have to "raise the bar". Also, it's funny because you make it sound like we are training cold blooded marines instead of human beings and that methods that is recommended by pshycologists and the like is "ineffective". Hah, try again.

You really hit the nail on the head there.
so basically you're grasping at straws
I'm very much against child abuse to any degree
It appears so, no matter how borderline 'child abuse' it actually is. Doesn't make you any different from me though in regards to doing anything about the situation.
Oh wow, send this woman to jail and never let her out, shes obviously a war criminal and should be treated as such right?
No I think she's a child abuser and should be treated as such though
Wow if that poor kid received that type of punishment for the little things he did I would've been a ritualistic sacrifice if she was my mom.
I hope it was hot when this was taped.

What constitutes "doing something," in your opinion?
Please, for the love of your child and everyone else, don't do this.
Its interesting, and it is getting logged as "creative parenting". I will attempt to avoid it and use my experiences to not have to get there, but if I end up in the same situation my parents were in (I.E. A kid that will NOT listen or react to ANY conventional parenting method), I just might consider it.
Let me get this straight: You lied and didn't want to do homework (Like most children) So your parents think that punching you in the face instead of reasoning or anything else was a better alternative? A+ Parents.
It wasn't just "lying about work". It was playing the system itself and playing on the sympathy of my teachers to every degree possible because I KNEW that there was no serious punishment that either my parents or the school would use. They refused to hold me back and let me fail, and because of that I continued with what I was doing.. Every other method was ineffective. My parents were out of options, nothing was working. I got home one day, lied again about the ususal thing, this had been happening for... 3 years straight now with no end in sight. Mom lost her nerve, and she hit me across the face. That was the only time in my life that that had happened, and she apologized afterwards. Kids have a line in their heads. They don't know where it is and neither do the parents. You concentrate on the single mistake that they ever made in the 19 years i've been alive, you're just like the state in that regard. Flipping out over literally nothing.

They tried reasoning, I caught on quickly. I sought out any way to get out of the argument and go back to what I was doing because I saw that what I was doing was working. "I get to play, avoid work, and I only get slapped on the wrist by my parents? Pfft, hell yeah." You are in the same group right now as every single person that has ever thought that they knew what to do in that case. However, if you were around when I was there, you would eventually be in the "well shit, I don't know anymore. Nothing that I have suggested has any affect and now we're all out of ideas"
I have no comments for you.
Snip
So half of Facepunch never had anything higher then a timeout for punishment as kids. Amazing what is classified as child abuse these days.
apparently child abuse doesn't exist and isn't a problem
i used to have to wash my mouth out with soap if I cursed
but hot sauce and cold showers is crossing the line, I mean hot sauce can burn your mouth if you have too much of it and intense cold water in such a short time can cause some shock
jesus I was almost crying after hearing that kid explain himself

You know absolutely nothing of what people in this thread have been put through by their parents.
You know absolutely nothing of what people in this thread have been put through by their parents.
No, I'm talking about the people who think hot sauce treatment is bad parenting. Although it can be bad to a certain extent.

Yes, I guess half of Facepunch have good parents.
holy fuck how do you not get it? it's like you're trying really hard to be a complete imbecile
his mother forced him to stand in a cold shower. it's not like he went into a cold shower willingly
oh no i wonder how he got through it

Yes, and those people are classified as "people in this thread," as they are in this thread.

there is a point where capital punishment is alright though, I doubt when he said hit he meant punched, rather smacked
my parents would break out the switch (a long, thin stick with a lot of flexibity) and give me a few smacks on the tush after I refused to negotiate with words
maybe the cold shower isn't as bad as it seems but the hot sauce is just too far
I think the fact that she seemed very unloving is the reason I was so upset, rather than the punishment
